Morning light had just broken, and the estate, high and low, was peaceful and quiet.
Aside from the brothers on duty, most others were still deep in sleep.
Suddenly, a figure came hurrying in.
Standing beneath the pavilion in the courtyard, Long Er saw the person rushing anxiously through the gate, gripped his long sword, and strode forward to meet him.
“What’s wrong?” His gaze landed on Yang Sheng.
“Second Squad, Mister Yang says there’s an urgent matter and needs to see the Princess Consort.” said the brother who had brought Yang Sheng in.
“The Third Prince has been poisoned.” Yang Sheng’s face was ashen. “Quick! Have the Princess Consort come take a look.”
“Alright!” Long Er didn’t dare delay, and went to knock on the side chamber’s door.
When he pushed the door open and entered, Yu Jingfeng, who had been resting in the hall, immediately stood up.
“Long Er, what’s going on?”
Last night had been the wedding day of the Prince and Princess Consort — on such a beautiful morning, if it weren’t urgent, Long Er wouldn’t have knocked and come in.
“Third Prince has been poisoned.” Long Er stated the situation.
Yang Sheng also stepped inside, cupping his hands toward Yu Jingfeng. “The matter is very urgent, I hope Lord Yu will forgive the intrusion.”
“Alright, you two go on out first.” Yu Jingfeng waved his hand.
Long Er led the men out, closing the door behind him.
When Yu Jingfeng knocked on the inner chamber door, of the two people inside the room, one was still deep in sleep, and the other had already woken.
Di Wu Ya was gently stroking Feng Jiu’er’s rosy little face, his expression tender beyond words.
But unexpectedly, a series of urgent knocks disturbed their rare peace.
Di Wu Ya’s expression darkened, his body leaning forward, wishing he could shut his woman away from this mortal world entirely.
“Knock, knock, knock…” The knocking came again.
Feng Jiu’er’s eyes stirred beneath her lids, and she furrowed her brow, seeming not yet fully recovered.
“Your Highness, something’s wrong! The Third Prince has been poisoned, the situation is critical.” Yu Jingfeng called out loudly, then knocked again.
“The Third Prince has been poisoned — I must trouble the Princess Consort to come take a look.”
As his personal guard, Yu Jingfeng knew best what had happened last night.
Even through the door, from that distance, he could sense his lord’s displeasure.
But there was no other way — saving a life came first!
“Your Highness, the Third Prince has been poisoned, please trouble the Princess Consort to personally come take a look.”
“My brother’s been poisoned?” Feng Jiu’er came back to her senses, her eyes flying open.
She looked beside her, at the man holding her protectively in his arms, and asked again to be sure: “Ninth Imperial Uncle, my brother’s been poisoned?”
Before Di Wu Ya could respond, Yu Jingfeng’s voice came again.
Feng Jiu’er, holding the long arm draped across her, quickly sat up.
“Ah…” That hurt!
Last night, someone had truly been wild! Not that she blamed him — he’d held back for so long.
“What’s wrong?” Di Wu Ya sat up, placing his arm behind her small frame to support her.
“Wife, does it hurt a lot? Let me apply more medicine for you.”
“I’m fine.” Feng Jiu’er shook her head.
She turned her head, and what met her eyes was his solid chest.
If the situation weren’t so urgent, Feng Jiu’er might have taken a good long moment to appreciate the view.
“Why aren’t you wearing any clothes?” Feng Jiu’er shot Di Wu Ya a glare, threw back the covers, and left his embrace.
Di Wu Ya’s large hand reached out but caught nothing.
He too threw back the covers and followed her out of bed.
The moment Feng Jiu’er got out of bed, waves of pain shot through her body again.
Fortunately he had applied medicine for her last night, or else she wouldn’t even be able to get out of bed today, let alone walk out.
“Wife.” Di Wu Ya supported Feng Jiu’er.
“I’m fine.” Feng Jiu’er shook her head.
“Your Highness, the Third Prince—”
“I’m coming right now.” Feng Jiu’er cut off Yu Jingfeng and turned around.
“Ninth Imperial Uncle, quick! Help me get my clothes.”
She had already felt somewhat uneasy last night — she hadn’t expected something to actually happen.
