Lu Feifan’s words sounded like nothing much at first.
But on second thought, they carried quite a bit of meaning.
Ninth Master was so clever, he shouldn’t have had any trouble hearing the implication in those words.
But Zhen Jiu’er quickly realized that Ninth Master didn’t seem to understand at all.
Everyone was very busy for the rest of that day.
Ji Mingyu said he had already notified the police, and the officers were on their way.
But since a helicopter couldn’t land directly there, they still had a long stretch of road to cover before arriving.
So it would probably take another full day before they reached the site.
Qin Fei was still in charge of guarding the professor’s body, though the main team finally arrived today, so someone was there to relieve him.
As for Lu Beicheng, he seemed unusually busy the whole day.
Many people came to him to discuss matters. Small things he used to hand off to Ji Mingyu.
But today, he was personally handling everything himself.
Ji Mingyu, on the other hand, ended up with free time.
“Hey, Miss Jiu’er, you can’t leave just yet.”
Seeing Zhen Jiu’er with nothing to do and looking like she wanted to wander off, Ji Mingyu immediately came to stop her again.
Yes, again! Because this was already the umpteenth time today.
“No one needs me here. What am I supposed to stay for?” Zhen Jiu’er glared at him, somewhat resistant.
What mattered most was that Ninth Master didn’t need her at all, and didn’t even pay attention to her, did he?
It was precisely because he ignored her that she’d been bored the entire day.
Everyone else was busy. Even Qiaoqiao was running back and forth. She was the only one left standing around in a daze.
This simply didn’t suit her personality at all.
“Miss Jiu’er, you’re Ninth Master’s attending physician. Wherever Ninth Master is, shouldn’t you be there too?”
Zhen Jiu’er had nothing to say to that.
So once again, she had no choice but to stay by Lu Beicheng’s side.
The trouble was, Ninth Master paid her no attention whatsoever, didn’t even speak to her, and treated her as though she were completely invisible.
This state of affairs continued until evening.
During dinner the two of them were still together, and throughout the whole meal Lu Beicheng didn’t say a single word.
After eating, Jiu’er went back to take a bath.
But she never expected that the moment she stepped out fresh from her bath, she would see a tall, slender figure sitting in her chair, flipping through some kind of book.
“Ying’an’s Lost City”?
The moment Jiu’er saw the cover, her heart suddenly warmed. “Ninth Master, where… did this book come from?”
“Want to see it?”
“Yes!” Of course she wanted to. Anything related to Beimu City, she wanted to see!
“It’s just a picture book.” Lu Beicheng tossed the book onto the table.
Jiu’er, not even bothering with her still-dripping wet hair, hurried over and picked up the book.
It really was just a picture book, and clearly one written carelessly, with nothing to do with Beimu at all.
Somewhat disappointed, Jiu’er set the book down, but the instant she did, she felt a chill settle around her.
She looked up and met Lu Beicheng’s icy gaze.
His face was right in front of hers!
“Ninth Master!” Zhen Jiu’er jumped, startled, and tried to get up, only to realize she was curled up on a blanket, and that he had somehow sat down right beside her without her noticing.
The blanket wasn’t small at all — there was plenty of room to roll around on it — yet he had chosen to sit right in front of her.
The two of them were squeezed into one small corner.
If she wanted to leave, she’d have to climb over him.
This was practically caging her in within the small space of his long arms and his body.
The most frightening part was that there wasn’t a trace of warmth in his eyes.
He was angry again.
“Ninth Master, can’t you tell that Lu Feifan was doing it on purpose?”
Zhen Jiu’er wasn’t foolish. From morning until now, she had known perfectly well in her heart that this was exactly why he was angry!
But he was blind to it!
How could he fall for something so obvious?
