Chapter 2195: Modern Arc: Utterly Baffling

It was Lu Qihong’s voice.

He was inside Lu Beicheng’s tent.

Lu Beicheng said nothing, and Lu Qihong continued, clearly displeased: “Now that Feifan can’t be found, can’t I suspect that Zhen Jiu’er conspired with those assassins to kidnap Feifan together?”

“A’Jiu, you can’t keep protecting her. You must hand her over to me! Otherwise, I’ll go to the police!”

“I don’t know under what pretext Third Master intends to go to the police.”

Jiu’er lifted the tent flap and walked in. “Kidnapped the Third Young Master? Do you have any proof?”

“You insolent girl!” The moment Lu Qihong saw her, his expression darkened at once, and he let out a heavy snort!

“Since you claim Feifan went in there together with you, then hand Feifan over! Besides you, no one else saw Feifan that night!”

“Now that Feifan has gone missing, if it’s not connected to you, then whose responsibility could it possibly be?”

Jiu’er, however, only looked at Lu Beicheng.

Lu Beicheng’s expression wasn’t much better either—after all, it was his nephew who had gone missing.

What’s more, his feelings toward Lu Feifan were something he couldn’t quite explain or put into words; Lu Feifan getting hurt felt as though it might cost him his own life.

His mood right now naturally couldn’t be good.

But when he looked at Jiu’er, he simply beckoned her over with a wave.

Jiu’er walked to his side and sat down quietly.

Lu Qihong understood at once!

“So, you mean to say, you’ve chosen to protect her? You trust her that much?”

Lu Beicheng looked up at Lu Qihong, who had risen to his feet and was now raging like thunder.

He himself, however, remained quite calm. “Everything can wait until Feifan is found.”

“How do you even know Feifan is still alive!” Lu Qihong scoffed coldly. “Didn’t she say Feifan was buried inside? Then where is he?”

“If there’s no body, then he’s still alive.” Lu Beicheng said this with fierce conviction.

As if, simply by saying so, it would have to be true!

But it was only when Jiu’er took his hand that she realized how cold it was—very, very cold.

Lu Qihong eventually stormed off in anger. Jiu’er looked at Lu Beicheng, her lips parting slightly, yet she didn’t know how to begin.

“If you don’t want to say anything, you don’t have to explain. I believe you, whatever you say.”

But his mood remained very low.

Because he trusted her, he knew that Lu Feifan had truly been buried under the sand and rubble.

But why he couldn’t be found—no one could explain that.

“I want to go in and take a look.” Jiu’er said softly.

“There’s no secret passage underneath; the ground is solid stone, and there’s no possibility of it sinking or caving in. So, he really isn’t down there.”

Lu Beicheng knew exactly what she wanted to look at.

The stone slabs on the ground hadn’t cracked open at all; it was simply impossible for any quicksand to have appeared and swallowed a person.

“But this whole matter truly makes no sense, unless someone rescued him while I couldn’t see, right in front of me!”

But there had been no one else in that secret chamber besides the two of them.

And the only way in or out was through that one door; there was no other secret passage within the chamber itself.

Jiu’er hadn’t even come out yet when Lu Beicheng went in.

There was no possibility of anyone appearing to take Lu Feifan away without even Lu Beicheng noticing.

This matter truly could not be explained.

Yan Qiu continued leading his men, searching everywhere; over the course of three days, they had basically turned the entire city of Ying’an upside down.

But even now, there was still no news.

Yet no one was willing to give up.

However, today Jiu’er had come to tell Lu Beicheng something else.

“Before the accident happened to us, Feifan and I both saw a very strange pattern.”

She looked up at Lu Beicheng and said in a low voice, “We saw a lock and a key drawn on the floor of the secret chamber.”
