Chapter 646: Turns Out to Be Such an Honest, Simple Man

At dinner time, Feng Yinan woke up.

Madam Xue, however, was not present—apparently the young master in the west wing was throwing a tantrum and refused to eat, so Madam Xue had been staying by his side.

“I’ve truly never seen a young master with such airs!” Xiao Yingtao clearly had a stomach full of complaints about that young master—even though half a year had passed, she still had plenty to say.

“Forget it, with his intelligence these days, what’s there to argue with him about?” Qiao Mu placed a piece of meat into Feng Jiu’s bowl. “Young Master, eat a bit more. I figure that once word gets out that His Highness the Crown Prince came here today seeking treatment, you’re going to be busy from now on.”

Feng Jiu smiled faintly, neither confirming nor denying her teasing.

Xing Zizhou, however, turned his head to look at Feng Jiu, still somewhat puzzled. “Young Master, are you… really certain about this?”

“Don’t you all want to see Tianji Hall grow bigger?” Although Tianji Hall’s business wasn’t limited to its medical clinic alone, business was business—the name still needed to be made known first.

Once the name was established, the various lines of business would naturally grow more numerous—pull one thread and the whole body moves—it would help their other ventures too.

Put it this way: in this life, who doesn’t want to live gloriously? At least Xing Zizhou wanted to, and so did the brothers.

Before this, the Young Master had always been unwilling to draw attention, preferring to keep everything quiet in whatever they did—but that was not actually the original intention behind opening Tianji Hall.

Now that the Young Master had finally been willing to take this step, everyone was naturally happy.

“Good, then let’s drink in advance to Tianji Hall’s victorious start—may our business one day spread across the entire Bei Mu Kingdom—no, across the whole world!”

Xing Zizhou raised his cup, and everyone else raised theirs along with him.

Who wouldn’t want to accomplish something magnificent? It wasn’t as if they lacked the ability!

Feng Yinan also lifted his cup and clinked it with the others, but when he swallowed, there was a touch of bitterness in it.

“Yinan, the Young Master already said your leg will recover soon—why are you still so gloomy?”

Xiao Yingtao was very optimistic, and said with a grin, “Don’t you trust the Young Master’s medical skill?”

“Of course I trust it,” Feng Yinan said quickly. It was just that, while everyone else was out working hard and rushing about, he sat here quietly enjoying the fruits of their labor without lifting a finger—naturally, it didn’t sit well with him.

“Eat more meat, build up your strength, and your leg will heal faster.” Feng Jiu placed several pieces of meat in his bowl and said earnestly, “Hurry and get better. Now that we’ve taken this step, everyone is bound to get even busier from now on. Get well quickly so you can help share the burden.”

“But I don’t understand anything…” Over the past half year, Feng Yinan, unlike the others, hadn’t been doing everything and learning everything.

He had never once taken on any of Tianji Hall’s affairs; even once his leg healed, there was no guarantee he could actually be of any help.

“Haven’t you been reading medical texts this whole time?” Feng Jiu knew he was simply afraid of being unable to help her, of becoming a burden to everyone.

In truth, over these past six months, Feng Yinan had brought up several times that he wanted to return to Ruhe City to find Tasangdong, and each time Feng Jiu had refused him.

He didn’t actually want to go back to see Tasangdong—rather, he simply no longer wanted to stay by her side, for fear of being a burden to her.

But this leg injury had clearly been caused on her account—how could she possibly ignore that?

If, once his leg healed, he still decided to return to Fenghuang City, Feng Jiu would absolutely not stop him—but until his leg was healed, she would absolutely not allow it.

Feng Yinan said nothing more. At a time like this, with everyone’s spirits high, how could he say anything discouraging?

The Young Master was right—he had indeed spent this past half year reading medical texts. Though he had no wish to become a physician and held no interest in treating illness, he had nevertheless gained a fair bit of knowledge about herbal medicine.

Going forward, following Xing Zizhou into the herbal medicine trade, at least he wouldn’t be completely clueless.

As soon as his leg healed, he would go out and work right away—he was determined to try even harder, to make up for the time he’d lost.

“Ah!” Qiao Mu suddenly let out a soft cry.

Everyone thought she’d bitten her tongue, but Qiao Mu mumbled and stammered, her face flushing red: “That… that person from the Number One Manor Under Heaven… Long Yan, he should still be in the side hall, hasn’t left yet, has he?”

This time, they had truly put on too many airs!

Earlier, because of the Crown Prince’s injury and the matter of the Ninth Prince’s arrival, everyone had been so on edge that Qiao Mu had completely forgotten about Long Yan.

There was no telling whether Long Yan was still in the side hall—after waiting so long, perhaps he had already left.

Then again, he seemed to have said that no matter how long it took, he would wait.

Qiao Mu looked at Feng Jiu, not understanding how she could have been so careless—something she had never been before. “Young Master…”

“I’ll go take a look.” Feng Jiu casually shoveled down a couple more mouthfuls of rice, then set down the bowl and chopsticks and left.

Qiao Mu also quickly swallowed what was in her mouth, picked up a cloth napkin to wipe her lips, and hurried after her.

In the side hall, Long Yan’s tea had already been changed several times. Though the masters of the house had forgotten his existence, fortunately a kind-hearted servant boy had brought him some pastries.

For a grown man to wait from noon all the way until nightfall now was no easy feat—mainly because he had genuinely grown rather hungry.

When Feng Jiu and Qiao Mu arrived, Long Yan was in the middle of eating a pastry, a mouthful of it stuck in his mouth, when he caught sight of the legendary Ghost Doctor Feng Jiu.

For a moment, Long Yan didn’t know whether to swallow the pastry in his mouth or spit it out… no, wait, spitting it out in a situation like this would be terribly rude.

With no other choice, he had to turn his face away and swallow the pastry as fast as he could, then hastily stood up, wiped his hands on the hem of his robe, looking thoroughly bashful.

“S-sorry, I was really getting a bit desperate with hunger just now, um, truly sorry…”

It was plain to see he was genuinely uncomfortable, his face flushed bright red with embarrassment.

Qiao Mu nearly burst out laughing—she really had never seen such an adorable grown man. And yet, this person was the steward of the Number One Manor Under Heaven, a head steward no less!

To be this shy was honestly rather unexpected—it was quite different from the impression that grand manor usually gave off.

Feng Jiu’er was also somewhat surprised. Given the reputation of the Number One Manor Under Heaven, she had assumed this steward would at the very least be a strict, perhaps even coldly aloof, man—but unexpectedly, he seemed to be… rather simple and honest?

“Might you be Mister Feng Jiu?” Long Yan forced down his embarrassment and looked at Feng Jiu.

Feng Jiu nodded. Long Yan immediately cupped his hands in salute. “This humble one is Long Yan—greetings, sir!”

He carried himself with refined courtesy; though his looks and build had a somewhat rugged quality, his bearing was rather fine. He appeared to be nearing thirty, not especially handsome, but at least clean and tidy, fitting the air of a head steward.

Feng Jiu walked up to him and said flatly, “Tomorrow morning, I will come pay a visit to your manor. Whether or not it can be treated, I won’t know until I’ve examined him.”

She never made promises she wasn’t certain of. The legendary Master Lanyue had suffered from a strange illness for years now, and she wasn’t sure whether she could truly cure it.
