Everyone was preparing to leave when suddenly the sound of galloping hooves came from outside the inn, followed by continuous shouting. Someone yelled loudly: “The thieves are inside! Everyone be careful!”
Wei Zizhuang looked out and said: “There are government officers coming to arrest us. We should hide for now.” Ling Ding shook his head: “No good. My junior martial brother is currently channeling his energy to drive out the poison. He absolutely cannot move, otherwise the toxin will invade his heart meridian and there will be no cure.”
Yang Suguan straightened his robes slightly and said calmly: “Everyone need not worry. Let me handle these government officers.” Everyone knew Yang Suguan’s capabilities and nodded in agreement.
Before long, a constable charged into the inn and shouted: “Bold bandits! How dare you kill and set fires in broad daylight? Surrender quickly and we can leave you with intact corpses!”
Yang Suguan let out a clear whistle, touched the ground with both feet, and was already standing beside the constable.
The constable was greatly alarmed and hurriedly tried to dodge aside, but Yang Suguan’s hand was even faster. He reached out and grabbed the man’s head at the crown, saying coldly: “If I exert force with my hand, your brains will immediately burst out and you’ll die a miserable death. Would you like to try?”
The constable hadn’t expected this person’s martial arts to be so formidable. Obviously greatly shocked, he hurriedly said: “Hero, please show mercy.”
Yang Suguan saw his face had turned pale and said: “You needn’t be afraid. As long as you obediently listen, we have no grievances or enmity – why would I harm you?” The constable swallowed and asked: “Who are you, sir?”
Yang Suguan raised his eyebrows and asked back: “Do you really want to know?”
The constable was startled upon hearing this and was about to change his words, but then thought: “I’ve been inexplicably captured by someone. If I don’t even know their name, it would be too disgraceful. No matter what, I must get a name to report back with.” He said hoarsely: “Looking at your appearance, sir, you must be a ruthless leader in the greenwood. May I ask your honored name?”
Yang Suguan said: “My surname is Yang, given name Suguan.” The constable’s mind raced, thinking: “Yang Suguan? Who in the greenwood has this name?” For a moment he searched his memory but couldn’t think of this person’s background. He laughed dryly: “Forgive my ignorance for not recognizing the hero’s sect and lineage. Please enlighten me?”
Yang Suguan smiled slightly and said: “I come from the north, visit the Ministry of War by day, sleep in the Prince’s mansion by night. I see the Son of Heaven before the Forbidden Gate, beside the imperial palace is my home.” After speaking this riddle, he patted the constable’s cheek: “Brother, have you guessed my background?”
The constable was greatly shocked and said tremblingly: “You… who exactly are you?”
Yang Suguan smiled, then said seriously: “I won’t hide it from you all. I am indeed a court official – currently a Department Director in the Ministry of War’s Bureau of Operations, Yang Suguan.”
The constable opened his mouth wide, then shook his head: “If you don’t want to reveal your true identity, I won’t ask further. Why make such a joke!” Yang Suguan smiled: “A mere Department Director is nothing remarkable – why would I falsely claim such a title?” As he spoke, he took out his official token and flashed it before the constable.
The constable saw the token and his face changed color, stammering: “You… you really are…”
Yang Suguan narrowed his eyes: “Your Provincial Commander has a grudge against me. As soon as I entered Gansu Province, he sent people to frame me repeatedly. However, this Yang is not someone to be trifled with. This battle’s outcome is still uncertain. We might as well wait and see.” He smiled at the constable: “Brother, this great battle is quite interesting. Do you want to get involved?”
The constable was greatly alarmed upon hearing this and hurriedly said: “Your Honor! I’ve never even seen what our Provincial Commander looks like, whether he’s tall or short. If you two want to fight each other, go ahead and fight to your heart’s content, but don’t implicate this insignificant official!”
Yang Suguan saw he was quite clever and nodded with a smile: “Have your men withdraw these officers.”
The constable was terrified. First, the other party was a court official; second, he was already in their grasp. He hurriedly waved his hand and shouted: “They’re our own people! Everyone quickly withdraw!” The government officers hurriedly retreated, immediately clearing a wide path.
Yang Suguan said again: “Have your subordinates bring over five horses.”
The constable hurriedly called out, and the officers dared not disobey, quickly leading over five long-legged fine horses. The constable said with a forced smile: “Your Honor, the horses have been brought. You may leave now.”
Yang Suguan turned to look at Ling Zhen, seeing he was still channeling energy to resist the poison and apparently still couldn’t move. He smiled slightly: “No hurry, no hurry. The wine and food here aren’t bad, and the scenery is beautiful. Let’s have a few drinks before leaving.” He ordered the server to bring wine and personally poured for the constable chief.
The constable forced himself to remain calm and reluctantly raised his wine cup, but the wine kept spilling out. Yang Suguan sat beside him, but his palm never left the man’s head.
After the time for a meal, Ling Zhen suddenly opened his eyes. Though the swollen area on his palm hadn’t completely subsided, it showed signs of gradually shrinking. Seeing everyone staring at him intently, he laughed: “This old man won’t die! Though this poison is formidable, it can’t overcome me! In just a few more hours, I’ll definitely be able to drive out this cursed poison.” Everyone was overjoyed upon hearing this. Yang Suguan nodded: “Excellent! Let’s leave now!”
However, Wu Dingyuan didn’t have such profound skills. His internal energy was far inferior to Ling Zhen’s, unable to drive out the poison himself. The black qi on his face only grew heavier, and he had already fallen unconscious.
Wei Zizhuang reached out to lift Wu Dingyuan when Ling Ding quickly reminded: “Don’t touch his body!”
Wei Zizhuang was startled and looked down carefully. He saw a mosquito fly forward and lightly land on Wu Dingyuan’s body. Before it could fly away, it immediately stiffened and fell to the ground dead. Wei Zizhuang drew in a sharp breath: “What domineering poison! So vicious!”
Wei Zizhuang removed his outer robe to cushion Wu Dingyuan, then wrapped several pieces of cloth tightly around his own hands before lifting him up to avoid contamination from the toxic qi. Ling Zhen, with his profound internal energy, could still move despite being poisoned and stood up by himself.
Yang Suguan walked to the constable chief’s side: “Brother, would it be convenient for you to escort us partway?”
The constable was alarmed: “I still have to go with you… this… this…”
Juan’er nearby stepped forward and sneered: “You’re not happy about it? Then we’ll send you directly to the King of Hell in the underworld, saving you the trouble of traveling back and forth!” Everyone couldn’t help but find it amusing to see her childish expression while speaking such harsh words.
The constable said tremblingly: “I’ll escort… I’ll escort… anywhere except the underworld…”
Yang Suguan laughed: “Thank you, brother. Let’s go now.”
The government officers were waiting outside. Seeing the constable chief come out first, he called: “Everyone quickly make way! These are officials from the Ministry of War who came to inspect our area. It’s all a misunderstanding!”
One officer whispered: “Chief, is… is what you’re saying true?” Seeing the chief being held captive, these words might not be sincere, so he inquired.
Wei Zizhuang always understood proper conduct. He took out a gold ingot from his coat and threw it to the officer, saying loudly: “You all need not be suspicious. We’re taking your chief to accompany us on a short trip – we’ll return soon. This small token is for you gentlemen to drink with.” The officer took the gold and silver but still looked doubtful.
The constable chief hurriedly said: “This is a reward from high court officials – why don’t you quickly accept it? You can go drink later, but don’t spread word of today’s events!” The officers saw Yang Suguan and the others spending generously with truly official airs, so they quickly made way.
Yang Suguan patted the constable’s shoulder: “You’re quite clever. When I return to the capital, I might arrange some benefits for you.”
The constable had originally been worried and afraid, but hearing Yang Suguan say this, he couldn’t help feeling both surprised and delighted, though unsure if these words were sincere. He hurriedly asked: “Your Honor intends to promote this humble one?” Yang Suguan smiled: “Let’s go first. We can talk more later.”
Everyone galloped along the road. When they reached the wilderness, it was already evening. Yang Suguan released the constable and nodded: “What’s your surname? When I return to the capital, I might help arrange things to facilitate your promotion.” The constable, hearing this question, was truly pleased that he intended to help, and said joyfully: “This humble one is surnamed He. Because I love drinking, people call me Baigan He! Your Honor need only check at the Ministry of Personnel to see this humble one’s name.”
Yang Suguan waved his hand and laughed: “Good! Baigan He of the Gansu road – I’ll remember. You may go.”
The constable was overjoyed and kowtowed repeatedly. This Yang Suguan was a high court official from an influential family – such noble figures were usually impossible to curry favor with. This time, being able to make acquaintance with such an esteemed person could be considered a blessing in disguise.
The constable bowed several more times before preparing to leave. Yang Suguan saw him turn to walk away when he suddenly remembered his appointment with Hundred Flowers Fairy and called out: “Wait!”
The constable was startled, thinking he had other plans, and quickly prostrated on the ground, saying tremblingly: “What are Your Honor’s instructions?”
Yang Suguan said: “I have an appointment to meet a friend at a pavilion ten li away. Do you know the way?”
The constable looked surprised: “The pavilion Your Honor speaks of – could it be the ‘Ghost and Spirit Pavilion’?” Hearing the three words “Ghost and Spirit Pavilion,” Yang Suguan couldn’t help raising his eyebrows, suddenly feeling strange, and asked: “Why, is there something odd about this pavilion?”
The constable looked troubled and said quietly: “There is something a bit odd. This pavilion is originally a rest pavilion not far from ten li outside the city. The scenery is quite nice, but… but it’s best to go during the day – never go there to enjoy yourself at night.” He seemed hesitant to continue.
The others nearby heard their conversation and came over to listen. Wei Zizhuang heard the constable speaking evasively as if he had some unspeakable difficulty, and couldn’t help asking: “What’s wrong? Are there bandits infesting that pavilion?” The constable shook his head: “No bandits. But the villagers say that Ghost and Spirit Pavilion is somewhat unclean – it seems to be seriously haunted.”
Juan’er heard him speaking mysteriously: “Stop trying to scare people! Where are there ghosts and monsters in this world?”
The constable laughed dryly: “I don’t know about that either. But the villagers describe it vividly, all saying that twenty years ago a criminally condemned prisoner died there, and afterwards it became unclean, often showing strange phenomena.”
Juan’er snorted: “What strange phenomena? Gold ingots falling from the sky?”
The constable smiled apologetically: “No gold ingots, but the desert several li around Ghost and Spirit Pavilion often has sandstorms, and at night there are strange lights like ghosts. A few days ago, snakes didn’t hibernate either – they all came out and froze to death. In a couple days it’ll be New Year – you gentlemen shouldn’t go there needlessly to avoid bad luck and ruin your good fortune.” This constable was of Han Chinese ancestry and was familiar with Central Plains customs, so he tried to dissuade them with this reasoning.
Everyone couldn’t help laughing quietly – no one believed him. But Yang Suguan’s expression was grave, not finding it funny at all. He nodded: “Thank you. I’ll be careful when I go.” He asked carefully about the route before letting the constable return.
Everyone found a ruined temple to rest briefly. Yang Suguan saw Wu Dingyuan unconscious and was very worried, only frowning with anxiety.
Ling Ding saw his anxiety and comforted him: “Junior martial brother need not worry excessively. Looking at Benefactor Wu’s physiognomy, he’s no ordinary person. This time he’ll surely turn danger into safety.”
Yang Suguan had also heard the abbot say similar things at Shaolin Temple, saying Wu Dingyuan had some connection with immortals and Buddhas. But at this time, when someone’s life was in danger, such words seemed irrelevant. Yang Suguan shook his head and sighed: “Don’t speak of such things. Right now we can only do our human best and leave the rest to Heaven!” Thinking of Liu Angtian’s weighty trust made his heart feel even heavier.
Wei Zizhuang saw Yang Suguan looking thoughtful and asked: “Yang Langzhong, that constable described Ghost and Spirit Pavilion so vividly, as if that place really has something strange. What do you think?”
Yang Suguan shook his head: “I can’t figure it out either. Anyway, Hundred Flowers Fairy made an appointment with us at that place – we must go and see no matter what. Even if there really are ghost and spirit legends, we can’t worry about such things.” Everyone agreed.
As they were speaking, they suddenly heard Ling Zhen let out a long sigh, then stand up and wave his fists and move his feet to exercise his muscles and bones. Everyone knew he had expelled the severe poison and all showed joy. Wei Zizhuang praised: “Master’s skill is indeed extraordinary!” This Ling Zhen was truly worthy of being one of Shaolin’s Four Great Vajras – his skill was indeed exceptional. Even “Hundred Flowers Fairy’s” severe poison couldn’t overcome him.
Ling Zhen chuckled and said: “What a damned ‘Hundred Flowers Fairy’! Let’s go directly to that ghost pavilion. If this woman won’t produce the antidote, we’ll just chop her into mincemeat to vent our anger and avenge Commissioner Wu!”
With Ling Zhen’s injuries slightly recovered, they had one more master fighter. Everyone decided that Yang Suguan and Wei Zizhuang would go out separately to scout and investigate how many helpers ‘Hundred Flowers Fairy’ had and whether there were traps and ambushes. Ling Ding would stay at the temple with Ling Zhen to protect the injured and the weak women. At midnight they would rendezvous at ‘Ghost and Spirit Pavilion.’
After settling the plan, Yang Suguan was about to leave when he suddenly heard Juan’er sigh: “Senior martial sister! Isn’t today New Year’s Eve? Are we still going to eat this New Year’s Eve dinner?”
Yan Ting sighed: “Ai… in these chaotic war times, how can we have the heart to think of such things.”
“Every festive season makes one miss family more” – the two sisters thought of their deceased martial uncle and couldn’t help their eyes reddening, nearly ready to cry.
Yang Suguan heard them say this and stopped in his tracks, thinking: “Yes! Today really is New Year’s Eve. If they hadn’t mentioned it, I would have forgotten.” This past month he had been busy with official duties and hadn’t thought about the approaching New Year. However, he had become a monk at Shaolin since childhood, so festive celebrations were optional for him. At this moment he only thought about it briefly before setting it aside.
Wei Zizhuang had also been about to leave the temple, but seeing Juan’er sad, he turned back and comforted her gently: “Little miss, don’t be sad! Though you can’t return to the mountain for New Year, having so many uncles here with you is quite lively too, isn’t it?”
Juan’er smiled through her tears: “Then you must give me a big red envelope.” Wei Zizhuang laughed heartily: “Done! I guarantee you’ll be satisfied.” He patted Juan’er’s little head affectionately.
Ling Ding nearby saw the year’s end approaching and thought of how time flies, also feeling somewhat melancholy. He sighed lightly: “Time passes so quickly. This Wuchen year is over in a flash – another year’s end… Year after year, when will I achieve enlightenment?”
Yang Suguan had already stepped out of the temple entrance, but hearing Ling Ding’s words, he suddenly felt alarmed, as if he had heard something extremely important, but couldn’t figure it out for the moment. He stopped and lowered his head in deep thought.
Wei Zizhuang saw his strange behavior and asked: “What’s wrong? Is something amiss?”
Yang Suguan didn’t answer, only closed his eyes and said quietly: “Ghost and Spirit Pavilion… Wuchen year… Wuchen year’s end… end of the Wuchen year…” Everyone saw him muttering to himself with strange behavior and all paid close attention.
Ling Ding frowned: “Junior martial brother Yang, what’s wrong?”
Yang Suguan paid no attention to the others, only frowning in hard thought. Juan’er saw him acting too strangely and couldn’t help saying: “What’s wrong with him? Did he also get poisoned by Hundred Flowers Fairy?” Yan Ting saw Yang Suguan’s grave expression and shook her head at her junior sister, indicating she shouldn’t disturb him.
Suddenly Yang Suguan’s eyes lit up and he said loudly: “Right! It’s this phrase!”
Wei Zizhuang hurriedly asked: “Yang Langzhong, what did you think of?”
Yang Suguan let out a long breath: “Have you all ever heard four lines that go: ‘End of Wuchen year, Dragon Emperor moves the world, Heavenly secrets still true, ghosts and spirits roam free’?”
Ling Ding remembered that when returning to Shaolin that day, he had also heard the abbot mention these four lines. He immediately nodded: “I have heard them. But these four lines are too strange, like some kind of prophecy. Why does Brother Yang ask about this?”
Yang Suguan said: “If Brother remembers clearly, do you still recall what the abbot said at that time?”
Ling Ding recalled the abbot’s words from that day and was suddenly shocked, his face turning pale.
Wei Zizhuang didn’t understand the reason and saw both men looking tense. He hurriedly said: “What exactly did your temple’s abbot say?”
Ling Ding chanted “Amitabha Buddha,” joined his palms and said: “Amitabha Buddha. That day when Brother Yang returned to the temple seeking help, the abbot mentioned these four lines: ‘End of Wuchen year, Dragon Emperor moves the world, Heavenly secrets still true, ghosts and spirits roam free.’
He said that when the ‘end of Wuchen year’ comes, the realm will be in great turmoil, and court political struggles will rise again. He told us to observe the situation clearly and not hastily involve ourselves in court disputes. When I heard these lines then, I didn’t think them strange. Only now when Brother Yang brings them up do I remember that today is New Year’s Eve – the ‘end of Wuchen year’ is upon us.”
Wei Zizhuang said “Oh,” and though he didn’t believe such absurd words, first, they came from the Shaolin abbot who must have some learning, and second, tonight happened to be the end of the Wuchen year, so perhaps there really was something to it. He asked: “End of Wuchen year… ghosts and spirits roam free… what does this ‘ghosts and spirits roam free’ mean? Does it refer to Ghost and Spirit Pavilion?” He looked toward Yang Suguan.
Yang Suguan gazed at Wu Dingyuan lying on the ground, seeing he was still unconscious with his life in great danger. He said in a deep voice: “Regardless of what these four lines actually mean, for Commissioner Wu’s sake, even if it’s a mountain of swords or sea of fire ahead, we must charge through!” Everyone agreed. Since tonight was the end of the Wuchen year and Ghost and Spirit Pavilion was nearby, whatever changes occurred then could be seen clearly.
Yang Suguan and Wei Zizhuang left the ruined temple, heading east and west respectively to investigate whether Hundred Flowers Fairy had other helpers. Yang Suguan went eastward along the road back to town, still disguised as a storyteller to avoid recognition.
Returning to town, he saw everything still in chaos. The inn owner stood at his shop entrance cursing heaven and earth: “Never seen such vicious bandits! Not content with killing people, they even broke through the roof! Damn it, such bad luck during New Year!” The roof damage wasn’t actually caused by Hundred Flowers Fairy but by Yang Suguan – he really should compensate the man.
Someone took malicious pleasure in mocking the owner: “You’re lucky! If you’d really met vicious ones, they’d have taken your wife as a stronghold lady!” The owner was furious and shouted: “What nonsense are you spouting?” Another laughed: “Don’t get angry! Maybe if your wife became a stronghold lady and got pressed down by someone every day, she might be so happy she wouldn’t want to return home!” They didn’t know why this owner had such poor relationships that even at this point people still mocked him.
The owner heard the ridicule and flew into a rage, attacking those two men. Everyone laughed continuously as chaos erupted.
Yang Suguan secretly found it amusing. Seeing nothing suspicious at the inn, he turned to leave.
As he walked, he suddenly saw someone striding toward him wearing Jinyiwei uniform. Yang Suguan was startled and quickly moved aside to the roadway, looking carefully. The approaching person was indeed Jinyiwei Commander An Dao Jing.
Yang Suguan hid in a side alley and peered out, seeing three people following behind An Dao Jing. He looked carefully – one was tall and sturdy called “Thunder God Boom” Shan Guoyi, one had a pale clean face called “Nine-tailed Flood Dragon” Yun Sanlang, and another with distinguished features was Jinyiwei Instructor Hao Zhenxiang. He had met them all at Liang Zhiyi’s residence.
Yang Suguan’s heart sank as he thought: “It seems Jiang Chong’s group has come prepared. There will definitely be a hard battle tonight.”
He understood clearly that the Jinyiwei group had definitely been summoned by Hu Mei’er as helpers. If he couldn’t investigate how many people there were and whether there were traps and ambushes tonight, the appointment would definitely have more losing prospects than winning ones. Not only would they be unable to obtain the antidote, they probably couldn’t even keep the sheepskin.
An Dao Jing stopped at the inn entrance and let out a sharp whistle. More than ten people rushed out from inside, all wearing factory guard uniforms. Without a word, everyone headed out of the city.
Yang Suguan carefully followed behind. He saw the group turning left and right, and before long they walked out of the city. Yang Suguan knew the Jinyiwei had many skilled fighters and dared not follow too closely. After the group left the city, the surroundings were open wilderness making further tracking impossible, so Yang Suguan jumped onto a tree. After they walked far away, he followed, fortunately the terrain here was flat so their tracks weren’t hard to find.
After a while longer, the Jinyiwei crowd came to a pavilion. The pavilion was quite dilapidated – of the eight pillars, three had collapsed, leaving only five corners for support. The stone table inside had one side collapsed, with no stone stools beside the empty table.
Yang Suguan crouched in a mountain hollow, peering down from above, thinking: “This must be the ‘Ghost and Spirit Pavilion’!” Remembering the constable’s words during the day about this pavilion having supernatural strange events, but at first glance he couldn’t see anything miraculous.
Yang Suguan looked up at the sky. At this time stars and moon were rising – there were still several hours before Hu Mei’er’s appointment. He might as well arrange things first to avoid falling into enemy traps. As he watched, Yang Suguan suddenly felt something was wrong. He stared at the night sky and saw the cloud layers were quite strange – all formed straight strips extending north and south. Yang Suguan had never seen such strange clouds and couldn’t help feeling secretly amazed.
Just then, several green snakes crawled out from tree hollows on both sides, scurrying about as if greatly panicked. Seeing this strange sight, Yang Suguan couldn’t help being greatly shocked, thinking: “It’s currently winter – snakes and insects should be hibernating. How could they suddenly crawl out of their holes?”
Suddenly his body shook slightly as the ground actually trembled a little, then dust rose from the distant desert, looking like ghostly shadows in the moonlight. Yang Suguan’s eyes widened as he thought: “What a ‘ghosts and spirits roam free.’ Tonight is New Year’s Eve of the Wuchen year – there must be some strange events. I’d better be careful.”
After a while, seeing no other strange phenomena, he relaxed and looked toward An Dao Jing and the others.
Under the starlight the area around the pavilion was desolate. The Jinyiwei sat on the ground, some lying down, some sleeping – only An Dao Jing and Hao Zhenxiang stood with arms crossed. Yang Suguan watched and shook his head secretly: “Though An Dao Jing’s martial arts are high, he has no talent for military command. After waiting just a short while, his subordinates became this disorderly.” In the darkness, An and Hao seemed to be conversing, but Yang Suguan was too far away to hear clearly.
Yang Suguan silently activated “Bodhidharma Divine Skill,” channeling qi to his dantian, immediately gaining sharp hearing and sight. This “Bodhidharma Heart Sutra” was Shaolin’s authentic supreme martial art. When practitioners reached advanced levels, not only would their internal energy be deep and solid, they could also gain the Buddhist “divine ear” and “divine eye” secret methods, worthy of being Shaolin’s temple-guarding treasure, comparable to the “Muscle-Tendon Changing and Marrow-Washing Classic.” When Yang Suguan activated this divine skill, it was like opening divine ears – sounds within ten li couldn’t escape him.
As Yang Suguan’s divine skill activated, he immediately caught An Dao Jing’s conversation. He heard An Dao Jing say: “This Hu Mei’er really doesn’t understand – how could she arrange to meet Yang Suguan and the others here? If these people discover the secret Lord Jiang assigned us, will we still have any fun?”
Hao Zhenxiang said: “Your lordship’s concerns are most valid.” Yang Suguan heard something wrong in their tone and immediately became alert, paying close attention.
An Dao Jing coughed and said: “Instructor Hao, this pavilion has a great secret. Do you want to know?” Hao Zhenxiang was an experienced and shrewd person. Hearing the word “secret,” he said: “Your lordship should be cautious. Since it’s a secret, with so many ears around, please don’t speak carelessly.”
Yang Suguan chuckled inwardly: “This Hao Zhenxiang not only has extraordinary martial arts but is also skilled at being an official. By saying this, he clearly doesn’t want to know any secrets to avoid being implicated. But An Dao Jing is a cunning old fox – since he mentioned ‘secret,’ he definitely has some scheme. Hao Zhenxiang will have to listen whether he wants to or not.” He was also concerned about the “secret” An Dao Jing mentioned and focused all his attention, afraid to miss a single word.
Indeed, An Dao Jing said: “Actually it’s not really a secret – just something Lord Jiang assigned me. I just can’t figure out Lord Jiang’s intention, so having nothing to do now, I’d like to ask Instructor Hao’s opinion.”
Hao Zhenxiang looked troubled and hesitant. An Dao Jing wouldn’t let him refuse and said: “My coming west carries several major missions. One of them is to retrieve the sheepskin – you know this.” Hao Zhenxiang said: “Bloody battles are the true nature of heroes. This subordinate will certainly brave fire and water to repay your lordship’s kindness unto death.”
An Dao Jing was very pleased and patted his shoulder, laughing: “Hearing you say this makes it worthwhile that I saved you from the execution ground back then. Work hard! I definitely won’t treat you unfairly.” Hao Zhenxiang lowered his head and cupped his hands: “The Commander saved this subordinate’s entire family – a kindness like rebirth. This subordinate will naturally do his utmost in return and will never disappoint the Commander’s expectations.”
An Dao Jing laughed heartily: “Well said! With you following by my side in the future, even if I encounter that bastard Zhuo Lingzhao, I won’t be afraid!” He laughed for a while, then said quietly: “Lord Jiang privately instructed me – he said after retrieving this sheepskin, we should carefully preserve it and never damage it, as there will be another great matter entirely dependent on this sheepskin in the future.”
Hao Zhenxiang asked curiously: “Wasn’t it agreed that once we retrieved the sheepskin it would be immediately destroyed? Why would there be other uses?”
Yang Suguan became suspicious, unsure if they were speaking truth or lies. The sheepskin was a border map drawn when Jiang Chong was captured – it was Jiang Chong’s treasonous contract. Keeping such a thing one more day brought one more day of harm; the sooner it was destroyed, the better for Jiang Chong. How could it have other uses? How strange! He unconsciously touched his chest and felt the sheepskin still safely stored there before feeling relieved.
An Dao Jing said: “I’m not entirely clear on the details either, but Lord Jiang instructed me – he said at midnight on the thirtieth of the twelfth month, a great secret would emerge from this pavilion, and I should pay careful attention and bring it back for him.” Hao Zhenxiang asked curiously: “What secret would emerge? This subordinate is straightforward and doesn’t understand such mysterious riddles. Please speak plainly, Commander.”
An Dao Jing shook his head: “What Lord Jiang said… I don’t understand it either. Anyway, he personally instructed that once I obtain that sheepskin and arrive at Ghost and Spirit Pavilion, I’ll naturally understand the whole story. Since he gave such instructions, how could I refuse? The place is ‘Ghost and Spirit Pavilion,’ the time is tonight at midnight. With the right place and time, I suppose I’ll understand everything then.”
Hao Zhenxiang smiled bitterly: “This is truly a heavenly riddle that no one can decipher.”
An Dao Jing laughed dryly and continued: “But the trouble comes afterward. That woman Hu Mei’er arranged the meeting here. When the time comes, with Shaolin monks and Wudang masters all mixed up in chaotic fighting, how am I supposed to find that secret? What a damned mess!”
Yang Suguan couldn’t figure it out – he only felt An Dao Jing’s words were confusing and muddled. Suddenly he heard a woman’s voice from mid-air: “What woman? What mess? You two really have guts, only knowing how to hide in the dark and slander others!” A woman descended from mid-air, beautiful but cold as ice – it was “Hundred Flowers Fairy” Hu Mei’er who had arrived.
An Dao Jing saw this woman arrive and looked extremely uncomfortable. The Jinyiwei who had been sitting or lying down saw Hu Mei’er’s heavenly beauty and all stood up, everyone smoothing their faces and hair, hoping the beauty before them would give them another glance.
Hu Mei’er said coldly: “How did only these few people come? How can we get the better of them when fighting starts? The opponents are Luohan Vajras from Shaolin Temple!”
An Dao Jing was about to respond when “Nine-tailed Flood Dragon” Yun Sanlang, being a lustful scoundrel, saw the beauty at his side and felt heroic spirit arise. He laughed heartily: “Miss, don’t worry! Even if not just a few Luohan Vajras from Shaolin Temple come, but even if old monk Tianjue himself arrives personally, this Yun will capture them for you all the same.”
Yang Suguan heard him speak insultingly of his sect and couldn’t help feeling anger surge up, but with masters surrounding him everywhere, how could he take risks? He could only forcibly endure, though he secretly vowed to make this man pay later.
Hu Mei’er glanced sideways at Yun Sanlang and walked directly to An Dao Jing, sneering: “Are these few braggarts all the Jinyiwei has? How can these good-for-nothings fight anyone?”
Shan Guoyi was furious: “What foul language are you spouting!”
An Dao Jing held him back and said with a forced smile: “The Fairy is right to criticize. I didn’t bring enough men on this western journey. Please make do with what we have, Fairy!”
Hu Mei’er looked at the crowd several times and shook her head repeatedly, saying coldly: “All useless things. When fighting starts, they’ll only get in the way. I think you’d better just go back.”
An Dao Jing hurriedly said: “Fairy, please don’t say that. If you get injured by those thieves, how could I explain to Lord Jiang?”
Hao Zhenxiang saw him being so servile and couldn’t help feeling curious. This “Hundred Flowers Fairy” was merely a poison-using person from the martial world – with An Dao Jing’s status, why need he fear her so? Could it be she held some leverage over him? Hao Zhenxiang became suspicious and frowned as he looked at this woman.
That “Thunder God Boom” Shan Guoyi had a rash temperament – how could he tolerate Hu Mei’er’s insults? He immediately roared and leaped high, raising his spiked mace to smash down on Hu Mei’er’s head. An Dao Jing urgently called: “Absolutely not!” and rushed forward, afraid of Hu Mei’er being injured.
Who knew “Hundred Flowers Fairy’s” martial arts were truly sinister. As Shan Guoyi’s mace struck down, Hu Mei’er only smiled lightly: “With just this little plaything you dare make a fool of yourself?” As she spoke, suddenly hundreds and thousands of silver needles flew out fiercely, shooting straight at Shan Guoyi’s face. Shan Guoyi cried out in alarm – unable to dodge in time, it looked like his eyes would be ruined.
Just then, someone reached out and grabbed Shan Guoyi’s collar, forcibly pulling him from mid-air. The mass of silver needles flew past Shan Guoyi’s cheeks without harming him at all. Everyone looked quickly and saw it was “Snake and Crane Twin Style” Hao Zhenxiang who had acted to save him. This person’s ability to pull someone away with one hand amidst such danger, with such precise eyesight and powerful strength, had reached first-class martial world standards. Everyone admired him and immediately shouted: “Excellent!”
Yang Suguan thought: “This person’s martial arts are extraordinary – truly a formidable enemy.” That night at Liang Zhiyi’s residence, he had fought this man and nearly been injured. Seeing his skills again now, he couldn’t help worrying secretly.
Hu Mei’er saw his divine skill and immediately said “Oh,” then said coldly: “My apologies, my apologies. So the Jinyiwei still has such masters!” Her seductive eyes constantly looked Hao Zhenxiang up and down.
An Dao Jing saw Hao Zhenxiang succeed and felt secretly proud, laughing: “You’re too kind, you’re too kind. This is a brother who recently joined our Jinyiwei, surnamed Hao, given name Zhenxiang, who uses ‘Snake and Crane Twin Style’ martial arts.”
Hu Mei’er laughed: “Lord An! I say you’re becoming more and more capable! You actually know to value such masters highly. I think the Jinyiwei’s enterprise is definitely thriving.”
An Dao Jing heard her praise and felt even happier, laughing heartily: “Many thanks for Fairy’s golden words of praise! An humbly thanks you!”
Hu Mei’er walked forward and stood before Hao Zhenxiang, looking up at him. She saw Hao Zhenxiang’s iron-strong physique and weathered face – truly the bearing of a real man. She was pleased and stood on tiptoe to whisper in Hao Zhenxiang’s ear: “Has this big brother married yet?”
Hao Zhenxiang thought: “This woman is so shameless and wanton, actually flirting with me.” He looked up at the sky and paid no attention.
Hu Mei’er was startled. The guards in the Jinyiwei all usually competed to curry favor with her – when had she ever seen such a man? She turned to look at An Dao Jing and smiled: “This big brother has quite an attitude!”
An Dao Jing was afraid Hao Zhenxiang’s proud temperament might offend Hundred Flowers Fairy, so he hurriedly said: “Fairy is joking. My brother is somewhat stubborn and hasn’t seen much of the world. Please don’t take offense, Fairy.” He looked toward the bright moon in the sky: “Fairy, look how big this moon is! Let’s enjoy the moonlight.”
Hu Mei’er paid no attention, only looking toward Hao Zhenxiang. In the night, she saw him gazing at the sky silently, his face full of righteousness, with a vast and magnificent bearing naturally arising. Seeing this demeanor, Hu Mei’er’s heart loved him even more, taking Hao Zhenxiang’s earlier rudeness as bearing, not minding it at all.
She smoothed her hair and walked several steps closer to Hao Zhenxiang, laughing: “Lord An, I want to borrow this person from you.” She reached out her hand to touch Hao Zhenxiang’s chest.
An Dao Jing shook his hands repeatedly and smiled bitterly: “Our Jinyiwei only has these few people. Please don’t joke, Fairy.” Hu Mei’er said coldly: “That’s your business, not mine. I just want to borrow this person.” She grasped Hao Zhenxiang’s arm with a shy face: “Instructor Hao, from now on you’ll follow me! I guarantee you’ll rise rapidly!”
Under the starlight, Hu Mei’er appeared beautiful as a flower with skin white as snow. The Jinyiwei crowd saw this fine prize and felt both envious and jealous. Yun Sanlang was especially resentful: “Damn it! Hao Zhenxiang gets all the advantages!”
Who knew Hao Zhenxiang was truly proud. He snorted and secretly channeled his divine skill, sending out internal force that immediately pushed Hu Mei’er back a step, then said coldly: “Men and women should not touch hands. Please be more respectful, Fairy.” Though he called her “Fairy,” his expression treated Hu Mei’er as a shameless woman, giving her no face at all.
Hu Mei’er was shocked to hear this. This woman usually thought highly of herself, associating with princes and high ministers. She wouldn’t even glance at ordinary men who pursued her, but when she encountered someone she liked, she would use every means to become intimate with him. She had always been invincible in matters of the heart – who knew she would suffer such a rebuff? In moments, her pretty face turned pale, then blue, then from blue to red – both ashamed and annoyed, not knowing where to put her face.
She was furious inside, thinking: “This Hao is so obtuse! Which princes and nobles in the capital don’t think of me constantly? Even Jiang Chong doesn’t dare be so arrogant toward me! Hao Zhenxiang, give you a little color and you open a dye shop!”
She slowly swept back her hair, the red clouds fading from her face, replaced by an expression cold as ice. Everyone saw her bearing a murderous air and not knowing her thoughts, fell completely silent with no one daring to speak.
Hao Zhenxiang, relying on his high martial arts, wasn’t afraid of this woman either. He stood proudly with his head high and arms crossed. The atmosphere was quite tense.
An Dao Jing feared trouble would arise and hurriedly stepped forward, clicking his tongue and scolding: “Instructor Hao! The Fairy kindly wants to promote you – how can you reject her so coldly? Quickly apologize to the Fairy!” He grasped Hao Zhenxiang’s arm, wanting him to speak in apology.
Hao Zhenxiang snorted and thought: “Very well. For the Commander’s sake, I’ll give this shameless woman some face.” He reluctantly bowed and said coldly: “Fairy above, if this subordinate has been disrespectful in any way, please be magnanimous.” As he spoke, his eyes turned elsewhere, showing no sincere intention to apologize.
An Dao Jing was about to scold again when he saw Hao Zhenxiang had already walked away on his own, leaving only Hu Mei’er there, giving no face to anyone. An Dao Jing felt extremely embarrassed and hurriedly bowed to Hu Mei’er: “Sorry, sorry. Our Instructor Hao comes from the Ministry of Justice background and has a temperament that easily offends people. Please don’t hold it against him, Fairy.” Everyone saw Hu Mei’er’s murderous expression and secretly worried for Hao Zhenxiang. An Dao Jing, knowing Hu Mei’er had relations with Jiang Chong, was even more anxious, his palms sweating and heart in turmoil.
After a long while, Hu Mei’er shook her head: “Forget it. What status do I have? Why should I be angry with him?”
An Dao Jing was overjoyed and breathed a sigh of relief: “The Fairy’s magnanimity – this subordinate deeply admires.”
Hu Mei’er smiled as if no longer bearing grudges. She looked toward Hao Zhenxiang: “Commander An, you just said this Instructor Hao comes from the Ministry of Justice background. Was he formerly a constable?”
An Dao Jing heard her inquiring about Hao Zhenxiang again and couldn’t help feeling secretly wary. He coughed: “Not exactly. Our Hao Zhenxiang was formerly a martial arts instructor hired by the Ministry of Justice, and was chief instructor for three thousand constables in the Central Plains.” An Dao Jing didn’t want the two to have further conflict, so he wanted to find a topic to pass over this – these few sentences were spoken extremely quickly.
Who knew that upon hearing this, Hu Mei’er immediately covered her mouth in surprise: “Ah! So Instructor Hao has such an impressive background!”
An Dao Jing’s heart sank as he laughed dryly: “The Fairy jests.”
Hu Mei’er looked puzzled, her beautiful eyes gazing at An Dao Jing as she frowned: “Commander An, I’d like to ask you something.”
An Dao Jing coughed again: “Please speak, Fairy.”
Hu Mei’er looked at Hao Zhenxiang and smiled: “Commander An, I wonder how this Instructor Hao’s martial arts compare to yours?”
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone present felt awkward, and even Hao Zhenxiang turned his head. Yang Suguan, spying from the side, thought: “This Hu Mei’er has such vicious methods, deliberately trying to sow discord.”
Seeing Hu Mei’er smiling as she looked at him, An Dao Jing, himself an expert at stirring up trouble, immediately understood her intention to create discord upon hearing such words. He laughed dryly: “I’ve never competed with Instructor Hao. I suppose we’re evenly matched!”
Hu Mei’er feigned surprise: “Oh my! Commander An is truly remarkable! Your Instructor Hao is famous throughout two lakes – his great name is known by everyone. I never imagined the Commander could fight him to a draw – truly unexpected!” She deliberately mocked, especially drawing out the words “draw” to make it particularly embarrassing.
An Dao Jing heard these words and immediately felt anger rise, thinking: “This vicious woman speaks so venomously.”
Hu Mei’er saw his face look ugly and only smoothed her hair, smiling: “Commander An! Actually, why should you be embarrassed? It’s natural that you can’t beat him! Look at Instructor Hao’s imposing physique – those who don’t know might think he’s the Jinyiwei Commander. I think with such talent under your command, your enterprise will surely grow bigger and bigger. Commander An will also be promoted step by step! Haha! Haha!” She laughed heartily.
In her bell-like laughter, An Dao Jing’s face showed changing expressions while Hao Zhenxiang also looked embarrassed. The rest looked at each other and shook their heads.
Yang Suguan observed coldly, thinking: “These few words of Hu Mei’er kill without bloodshed – more domineering than any poison. This ‘Hundred Flowers Fairy’ is indeed a first-class poison expert.” He knew An Dao Jing’s character well – this man was extremely petty and had harmed countless subordinates, leaving the Jinyiwei without other masters. These words definitely hit his vital points. Looking at this, the spear and staff instructor’s future was already clouded.
Indeed, these words deeply wounded An Dao Jing. He was usually not very magnanimous and especially distressed about his increasingly fat physique. Hearing these words, he began calculating: “This Hao Zhenxiang’s martial arts are indeed superb – I’m probably far inferior to him. That old dog Jiang Chong always likes the new and abandons the old. If he spends much time with this person, he’ll definitely favor his martial prowess. I must guard against this.”
Thinking again: “The Jinyiwei finally got a master – I can’t fall for this slut’s discord. This Hao Zhenxiang is easy to remove, but finding another such talented general – who knows when that would be.” Though he said this, a shadow remained in his heart that he couldn’t shake, making it difficult to decide.
As good and evil thoughts battled in his heart, Hao Zhenxiang nearby observed expressions and knew he had caused great trouble. He strode over and knelt on one knee, cupping his hands: “Commander, please observe clearly! You have shown life-saving grace to this subordinate. In my lifetime, Hao Zhenxiang dare not forget this great kindness, much less fight the Commander. Please don’t take others’ boring words to heart.” He glared angrily at Hu Mei’er as if wanting to cut her in half to dispel his rage.
An Dao Jing heard these words and felt somewhat reassured. He was about to respond when he heard Hu Mei’er laugh: “Amazing! Our Instructor Hao really knows how to conduct himself – clearly superior in martial arts yet knowing to yield to his superior. Remarkable, remarkable! Being so sensible, Lord Jiang will definitely like him.”
An Dao Jing heard these words and was shocked again, all his thoughts turning negative. Hao Zhenxiang saw his superior’s face change dramatically and knew the situation was bad. He hurriedly lowered his head: “Commander, don’t listen to others’ wild talk. Your martial arts are supreme, Commander – your blade techniques are unrivaled in the capital. Such profound martial learning – even if this subordinate were ten times bolder, I wouldn’t dare compete with the Commander for glory.”
Everyone heard his excessive flattery and secretly praised him, understanding this instructor was extremely versed in official politics.
An Dao Jing saw him humble and submissive, praising him so highly before everyone, and immediately felt relieved, thinking: “This person is very loyal to me – it seems I needn’t guard against him.” He laughed heartily and immediately pulled Hao Zhenxiang up, glancing at Hu Mei’er and laughing: “Instructor Hao and I are like liver and gallbladder – we won’t take others’ boring words to heart!” An Dao Jing’s meaning was clear – he wanted her to save her energy and stop trying to sow discord.
Hu Mei’er heard these words but remained unmoved, only smiling with a calm expression. The onlookers saw her demeanor and became even more worried, not knowing what scheme she had next.
Hao Zhenxiang looked completely indignant, glaring at her face with eyes like spitting fire.
Hu Mei’er paid no attention to everyone’s expressions. She looked up at the sky, seeing it was still early before the third watch, and smiled slightly: “I wonder where those monks are hiding. I’m afraid they’ve abandoned their companions and fled alone – tonight’s appointment would be quite boring then.”
Yun Sanlang, having had no chance to speak and already extremely frustrated, quickly chimed in: “The Fairy is right! Those Shaolin monks must be scared. When the critical moment comes, Fairy, they’ll definitely flee without doubt.” He smiled ingratiatingly, hoping to win the beauty’s heart.
Hu Mei’er glanced at him sideways and smiled: “Sanlang is right! As long as our Sanlang joins Shaolin Temple, such abandoning friends and fleeing, betraying trust and forgetting righteousness – that must happen frequently, performed daily.”
Yun Sanlang heard the sarcasm but only giggled without other reaction. This man was extremely lustful – his thieving eyes only focused on looking at Hu Mei’er’s face and appearance one moment, her hands, feet and figure the next. He paid no attention to what she said, nodding and agreeing in his confused state, seemingly unaware she was mocking him.
An Dao Jing saw his subordinate’s pathetic behavior and couldn’t help feeling sad, thinking: “Damn it, the Jinyiwei is full of such wine sacks and rice bags – no wonder Dong Chang’s Liu Jing increasingly doesn’t respect me, and Lord Jiang treats me worse and worse.” Turning to look again, he saw Hao Zhenxiang full of murderous intent, seemingly only wanting to teach Hu Mei’er a lesson, and sighed again: “Useless wastes are obedient and well-behaved; capable masters are proud and hard to tame. Not a single subordinate is easy to manage. Sigh… being a commander these days really isn’t a job for humans…” He sighed long and short, extremely vexed.
Seeing Yun Sanlang rubbing his hands repeatedly as if drool was about to flow, Hu Mei’er, though experienced in countless situations, still found his eager appearance surprising and amusing. She was about to speak teasingly when suddenly an idea struck her – she thought of a scheme and suppressed her words, walking several steps toward Yun Sanlang.
Hu Mei’er swept back her hair and smiled: “Sanlang, come here.”
Yun Sanlang was both shocked and delighted. Earlier he had been thoroughly mocked by Hu Mei’er without any good treatment, but now hearing her gentle summons, he was beside himself with joy. He tremblingly walked toward Hu Mei’er, saying softly: “Fair… Fairy, what important matter do you wish to instruct?” His voice was thin and soft as if his whole body had lost all strength.
Hu Mei’er took out a small cloth pouch and smiled charmingly: “I scolded you earlier and feel quite sorry. Here, take this pouch as my apology.”
Yun Sanlang was an extremely lustful person. Seeing Hundred Flowers Fairy smile at him so sweetly, how could he not be excited beyond control? He hurriedly reached out to take the pouch, then firmly grabbed Hu Mei’er’s hand, feeling her wrist smooth, tender and soft – truly a heavenly fragrance. He was numb with pleasure for quite a while before laughing: “Fairy, what is this thing you’re giving me? Is it some precious personal item you want me to guard carefully for you?” He giggled lecherously.
An Dao Jing saw his shamelessness and was so angry his seven apertures smoked – he wanted to rush up and slap him hard twice.
Hu Mei’er didn’t mind, only glancing at Yun Sanlang sideways: “Where are your thoughts going! This pouch contains the antidote the Shaolin monks desperately desire. When fighting starts, I’m afraid of accidents and want to put it with you for safekeeping. Sanlang, your martial arts are superb – protecting this pouch is naturally more than sufficient.”
Her eyes flowed with indescribable charm. Yun Sanlang, looked at this way by her, momentarily forgot even his own name.
While Yun Sanlang was lustfully distracted with drool flowing, An Dao Jing was cunning and Hao Zhenxiang sharp – the two exchanged glances, both feeling this matter was suspicious.
Hao Zhenxiang became suspicious and said quietly: “This woman lives by poison skills and normally wouldn’t let the antidote appear casually. How would she entrust it to others for safekeeping? This matter has problems.”
An Dao Jing also felt doubtful and nodded: “Right. I think this woman has some scheme. Instructor Hao, go ask – don’t let our brother suffer.”
He knew Hu Mei’er’s background was significant and he couldn’t directly offend her, so he wanted Hao Zhenxiang to inquire. Even if they had harsh words later, he could step in to mediate.
Hao Zhenxiang nodded and walked to Hu Mei’er, saying in a deep voice: “The martial world says ‘Hundred Flowers Fairy’s’ martial arts are extraordinary, her unique skills unrivaled in the martial world. With the Fairy’s such superb martial arts, and this antidote being so important, why doesn’t the Fairy keep it herself? If we have any accidents later, how could we explain to you? Does the Fairy have other designs?” He snorted twice and looked sideways at Hu Mei’er with a completely murderous demeanor.
An Dao Jing, originally suspicious of Hu Mei’er’s intentions, didn’t interfere and let him question freely.
Yun Sanlang was confused, only focused on pleasing the girl – how could he care about such things? Before Hu Mei’er could respond, he was already furious, pointing at Hao Zhenxiang and shouting: “Surname Hao! You see her being nice to me and you’re jealous! Have you no shame!” He rushed forward to grab Hao Zhenxiang’s clothes.
Hao Zhenxiang lightly waved his left palm, and where his force reached, he had already pushed Yun Sanlang back two steps. He shook his head: “The Fairy’s martial arts are extraordinary – we Jinyiwei dare not show off before experts. Please take back the pouch, Fairy!”
Hu Mei’er, pressed with questions, only snorted: “You’re very strange – I’m just entrusting something. What schemes could I have? Looking at you being so evasive and reluctant, you’re not at all like real men – aren’t you ashamed!”
Hao Zhenxiang heard her cold mockery and immediately darkened his face, saying coldly: “The Fairy needn’t use such words to provoke us. We men walk the martial world relying on gambling courage and lives – we can’t compare to the Fairy’s youth and beauty. This antidote is so important – please keep it yourself, Fairy!” His blood rushed up and he spoke without yielding at all.
Hu Mei’er heard this and couldn’t help being angry: “Wait! What do you mean ‘can’t compare to my youth and beauty’? What exactly are you trying to say?”
Hao Zhenxiang said indifferently: “The Fairy needn’t be angry. If a person acts and does, they needn’t fear others speaking of it. Hao calling you youthful and beautiful is a compliment – why think the worst?”
Hu Mei’er saw his arrogant demeanor and became even more furious, shouting: “You… what do you mean by these words? You… are you saying I rely on sleeping with people to establish myself in the martial world?” In her anger, her speech became somewhat stammered, with tears glinting in her eyes.
Hao Zhenxiang looked disdainful as he gazed at the sky. He said nothing, but his facial expression was extremely contemptuous, actually treating Hu Mei’er like a lowly prostitute.
Hu Mei’er trembled with rage. She was naturally promiscuous – if others mocked her with a few words about this, she wouldn’t be very angry. But she had always been proud and never allowed others to look down on her martial arts and talents. Hao Zhenxiang could curse her promiscuity but absolutely couldn’t despise her abilities – his earlier words had seriously violated her taboos.
In great anger, Hu Mei’er shrieked: “Surname Hao! I merely entrusted something and you spoke so damagingly of me! You… you remember this! You dare insult me today – someday I… I’ll definitely make you kneel and apologize to me!”
Hao Zhenxiang glanced at her sideways and said coldly: “With the young lady’s martial arts, you probably need to practice several more years.”
Hu Mei’er saw his attitude – he completely looked down on her. Her face was iron-blue and tears suddenly poured out as she bit her teeth: “You… you’re so hateful!” Immediately tears fell like rain and she wept uncontrollably.
An Dao Jing saw Hao Zhenxiang make this female demon cry publicly with just a few words. Though he felt pleased inside, he also feared trouble and hurriedly stepped forward: “Everyone please stop this! With great enemies before us, why divide into us and them? Sanlang, carefully put the thing away and don’t fail the Fairy’s trust.”
At this point both sides had nearly broken relations – they couldn’t worry about what schemes Hu Mei’er had anymore. They could only let Yun Sanlang accept the pouch, and whatever happened later would have to be dealt with then.
Yun Sanlang stuffed the antidote into his chest, glared fiercely at Hao Zhenxiang and cursed: “Dog bastard!” Hao Zhenxiang only closed his eyes to rest, making no sound.
For a very long time, Hu Mei’er only lowered her head motionlessly, seeming grief-stricken to the extreme. The onlookers were both alarmed and afraid, not knowing if she would suddenly attack someone.
An Dao Jing worried secretly and looked toward Hao Zhenxiang, hoping he would apologize, but Hao Zhenxiang still looked up at the sky with no intention of admitting fault.
An Dao Jing sighed and groaned, constantly lamenting internally. Hu Mei’er had close relations with Jiang Chong – if she bore grudges and caused trouble, Hao Zhenxiang would definitely suffer, and An Dao Jing would inevitably be implicated. But this was a time when people were needed – even if it meant being blamed by Jiang Chong, he had to protect Hao Zhenxiang’s position. Otherwise, with only people like Yun Sanlang left in the Jinyiwei, how could he as Jinyiwei Commander compete with anyone?
After another incense stick’s time, Hu Mei’er finally slowly wiped away her tears, then raised her head with an expression calm as usual.
An Dao Jing breathed a long sigh of relief, thinking: “That was close! Our Instructor Hao has offended this woman repeatedly – better not let them meet again in the future.”
As he was thinking, Hu Mei’er had already walked toward Yun Sanlang and curtsied to him: “Thank you, Brother Yun San. With such heroic spirit, you’ll definitely protect this little woman’s antidote well.”
Yun Sanlang looked up and laughed: “Rest assured, Fairy! I’m not like those surnamed Good or Bad pig-dog types – I’ll definitely handle what the Fairy has entrusted well.” He giggled lewdly again: “But when it’s over, Fairy, you must reward me with something.” He reached out wanting to embrace Hu Mei’er’s slender waist.
Hu Mei’er dodged away laughing: “You wish!” The onlookers saw her instantly return to her charming and coquettish demeanor – it was hard to recall this woman’s earlier weeping appearance.
Yun Sanlang accepted the pouch and laughed heartily as he walked toward the grove beside the mountain hollow. Shan Guoyi called: “Where are you going?” Yun Sanlang said ill-temperedly: “I’m going to piss – do you want to follow?”
An Dao Jing saw his crude behavior and scolded: “With outsiders present, how can you relieve yourself anywhere?”
Yun Sanlang giggled: “It’s precisely because the Fairy is here that my pants won’t stay fastened!” These words were too low – An Dao Jing was so angry he panted, Hu Mei’er’s pretty face turned pale, and everyone laughed out loud.
Yang Suguan, hiding in the mountain hollow, saw Yun Sanlang approaching and thought of this man carrying the antidote – how could he restrain himself? He was overjoyed: “Heaven helps me!” Though there were many masters by the pavilion, relying on his own high martial arts and catching people off guard with surprise, snatching something and escaping shouldn’t be too difficult. He immediately flew down.
Yun Sanlang was relieving himself when he saw someone hidden in the mountain hollow and was so scared he screamed, unable to tidy his pants in time as he rushed toward the crowd. Everyone seeing him still urinating were shocked and scattered.
Yang Suguan’s figure flashed as he reached out toward Yun Sanlang’s back. This grab was skilled in technique with deep, steady force – precisely the Shaolin “Tiger Claw Hand” ultimate skill. Just as he was about to grasp Yun Sanlang and successfully obtain the antidote, Hao Zhenxiang nearby saw his companion in danger and immediately roared, flying out with a palm strike from mid-air. Yang Suguan saw his attack so fast and fierce, his heart alarmed, and he leaped backward.
Yun Sanlang took this opportunity to roll away on the ground, luckily escaping Yang Suguan’s grab. Still shaken, he hurriedly stood up and pointed accusingly: “Bold villain! How dare you ambush your grandfather! You remember this!” He cursed loudly but hadn’t put on his pants – looking extremely strange and ridiculous.
Hundred Flowers Fairy saw Yang Suguan come alone and was overjoyed. Since seeing Yang Suguan, she had never forgotten him, completely enamored with this martially skilled young scholar. Now that Yang Suguan had walked into the trap, she could not only seize the sheepskin but also imprison this handsome, noble young man – the thought excited her greatly. She immediately beamed with joy, staring at Yang Suguan with complete focus.
The Jinyiwei crowd saw the strong enemy arrive and immediately shouted, drawing blades to hack at Yang Suguan. Hao Zhenxiang, considering his master status, was unwilling to join others in surrounding and attacking an enemy, so he touched the ground with both feet and withdrew from the circle.
Yang Suguan saw everyone attacking with raised blades and let out a clear whistle, also drawing his sword. In an instant he thrust out forty-nine sword strikes like countless cold stars. How could several lieutenants match him? They immediately fell to the ground with sword wounds.
“Thunder God Boom” Shan Guoyi saw the situation was not good and roared like a tiger, raising his spiked mace to strike left and right with incredibly fierce momentum. Yang Suguan raised his sword to thrust forward. Shan Guoyi didn’t dodge at all, only raising his club to strike hard – using a desperate fighting style. Yang Suguan raised his eyebrows as his sword blade sliced along the spiked mace. If Shan Guoyi didn’t release his weapon, his right hand’s five fingers would be severed. Who knew this Shan Guoyi was extremely fierce – he turned his fingers inward to avoid the vital points and actually used the back of his hand to receive Yang Suguan’s incredibly sharp sword blade. His right hand was immediately cut with a gash. He roared loudly, and amidst the flowing blood, his left fist swung out, hitting Yang Suguan squarely in the chest.
Yang Suguan’s internal energy was profound. Though his chest was struck by a fist, after adjusting his breathing for a moment he was unharmed. He turned and thrust his sword toward Shan Guoyi’s throat. Who knew this man fought without regard for his life – he only slightly dodged the vital point, letting Yang Suguan’s long sword draw a bloody line across his neck while his spiked mace struck down overhead. Yang Suguan was greatly shocked and hurriedly leaped backward.
Shan Guoyi roared like a tiger and charged forward, raising his spiked mace to ram straight into Yang Suguan. Yang Suguan shouted: “Don’t you value your life?” He raised his sword to thrust at the man’s forehead. Shan Guoyi rolled to the ground and swung his club at Yang Suguan’s shins, forcing Yang Suguan to dodge backward again.
Shan Guoyi’s momentum was like a mad tiger with continuous attacks – he even used his mouth, opening it to bite. Yang Suguan, despite having profound martial arts, could only retreat repeatedly without gaining any advantage.
Hundred Flowers Fairy laughed: “Lord An, your subordinates fight quite entertainingly. Look at this dog-bite technique – it must be martial arts personally taught by you, Lord An!” An Dao Jing heard Hu Mei’er’s mockery and was very angry inside, but fearing the extraordinary relationship between Hu Mei’er and Jiang Chong, he was helpless. He called loudly: “What are you all waiting for? Quickly kill this boy!” The Jinyiwei heard their commander’s order and all joined the battle. More than ten people surrounded Yang Suguan, wildly hacking with swords, spears, and halberds in chaotic fashion. For a time the fighting was evenly matched. Except for Yun Sanlang guarding the antidote and Hao Zhenxiang maintaining his dignity, the rest all joined the siege.
Though Yang Suguan’s martial arts foundation was high and he had learned first-class superior martial arts at Shaolin Temple, since mastering his skills he had been an official at court – when had he ever fought with real weapons? His combat experience was truly too limited. That day when he fought Zhuo Lingzhao, a perfectly good ultimate technique “Nirvana Rebirth” was easily broken by Zhuo Lingzhao due to insufficient experience. Now facing opponents who were all desperate, lawless madmen, Yang Suguan’s various superior martial arts were difficult to deploy, all broken by desperate underhanded fighting methods. He immediately fell into great disadvantage.
Hu Mei’er laughed: “Lord Yang, I think you should surrender early with your sword. Why struggle desperately? Later we can brew a pot of wine, turn enemies into friends, and discuss world affairs – wouldn’t that be delightful? Quickly come down and rest!” Her voice was soft and tender, truly soul-stirring. Everyone hearing these words felt moved.
Yang Suguan concentrated on fighting the enemy, completely ignoring these words. Though he was at a disadvantage, he didn’t panic. Relying on his exceptional natural intelligence, within dozens of moves he had seen that his opponents were crude and mad types who couldn’t be fought with refined techniques. He immediately shouted and used the nineteen-style “Mad Zen Sword Technique” taught by Monk Tianjue. This sword technique couldn’t be predicted by common logic – the sword went left but then turned to slash backward, suddenly changing to horizontal cuts like a madman, completely impossible to anticipate.
Shan Guoyi roared wildly and charged forward, raising his club to strike Yang Suguan. Yang Suguan didn’t dodge either, only raising his sword to thrust toward the enemy’s abdomen. Shan Guoyi was extremely brave and didn’t avoid it, still striding forward boldly. Just as both were about to mutually wound each other, suddenly Yang Suguan’s sword tip rose and pointed at Shan Guoyi’s throat. If this sword thrust home, Shan Guoyi would definitely die on the spot. Indeed, Shan Guoyi had to dodge. He cried out and rolled to the ground, but it was too late – his shoulder was still pierced through.
The others saw Shan Guoyi wounded and hurriedly filled in, all raising blades to hack wildly. Yang Suguan dodged the attack sideways, then his long sword swept out, slashing toward one man’s arm. That man didn’t retreat at all, also raising his blade to hack at Yang Suguan’s head – a desperate move using mutual destruction tactics. Yang Suguan smiled slightly as his sword momentum suddenly changed, turning to thrust at the man’s lower body. With an “Ah!” of agonized screaming, that man’s thigh was pierced and he immediately fell to the ground.
Yang Suguan struck east while hitting west with infinite variations – no one could block even half a move. This “Mad Zen Sword Technique” was indeed tremendously powerful with endless strange moves. The Jinyiwei all retreated with blood splattered on their bodies.
Years ago, Yang Suguan had found this sword technique ugly and unseemly and was unwilling to learn it. But Monk Tianjue had said: “The way of martial arts alternates between orthodox and unorthodox. The ‘Bodhi Thirty-Three Heavens Sword’ can be considered orthodox martial arts, while this ‘Mad Zen Sword Technique’ is unorthodox martial learning. When you master and integrate them, able to have ‘unorthodox within orthodox, orthodox within unorthodox’ in even ordinary moves, you’ll definitely become a great master in the martial world!” Only now did Yang Suguan understand Monk Tianjue’s intention. Feeling grateful for his teacher’s kindness, his long sword became even more unpredictable and mad, unstoppable by anyone.
Hu Mei’er laughed: “What a pity – such a refined and elegant young noble now bites like a mad dog. Isn’t this ruining the beautiful name of ‘Romantic Department Director’? Let me come meet you!” She slowly walked onto the field, smiling as she looked at Yang Suguan.
Yang Suguan saw her enter the field and immediately became alert. That day with Wei Zizhuang guarding nearby, he had still faced dangerous situations. Today fighting alone against enemies, he absolutely couldn’t fall into her trap. Seeing the whisk in Hu Mei’er’s hand, Yang Suguan immediately recalled various rumors in the martial world – all saying this whisk had many mechanisms, sometimes shooting silver needles, sometimes spraying poisonous powder, depending on Hu Mei’er’s intent. His heart trembled, momentarily unsure how to attack.
Hu Mei’er smiled faintly: “Little brother, if you won’t come over, big sister will come to you!” Her figure flashed as she approached Yang Suguan. Yang Suguan touched the ground with his right foot and leaped backward, then raised his sword to guard his center – a move combining offense and defense that was flawlessly tight. The onlookers were all knowledgeable and couldn’t help shouting approval.
Hu Mei’er saw his tall, jade-like appearance and wanted to look more, saying coquettishly: “I won’t allow you to use that ugly mad dog sword technique – use beautiful ones!” Yang Suguan thought: “If I can’t win this battle decisively, the martial world will surely spread ugly rumors about her going easy on me. How could I face people then? I must concentrate!” Thinking this, he gathered his right hand into a sword flower, drawing three circles toward Hu Mei’er’s body. This sword had a name called “Three Entries to Hell” – the strikes were both fast and vicious, extremely domineering. Three swords in sequence, each faster than the last. If it wounded an enemy, all three swords would hit together – hence the name “Three Entries to Hell.”
Hu Mei’er laughed: “This move is truly beautiful – someone of your character should use such martial arts. But I wonder if it’s just flashy appearance without substance!” She smiled charmingly while raising her whisk to block. She saw the three sword circles spinning faster and faster, almost dazzling to the eyes. Though Hu Mei’er spoke lightly, she dared not be careless. Seeing this move’s alarming power, in her panic her waist trembled lightly as she dodged aside.
Yang Suguan let out a clear whistle as his sword tip shook out a rainbow – majestic in momentum with magnificent bearing. The onlookers immediately cried out in shock. This move was called “Indra’s Mount Sumeru,” one of the most powerful ultimate techniques in “Bodhi Thirty-Three Heavens Sword,” only slightly inferior to “Nirvana Rebirth” in power – already a rarely seen killing move in the martial world. Seeing Hu Mei’er showing signs of defeat, he wanted to defeat her in one stroke and no longer held back his signature skills.
Hu Mei’er’s beautiful face paled. To retreat would be no match for Yang Suguan’s sword speed; to dodge sideways, she feared he would suddenly change moves. In desperation, she used her long-famous “Life-Saving Triple Chain.” Hundred Flowers Fairy scattered countless fine poisonous powder from her hand, flying straight at Yang Suguan’s face.
Yang Suguan hurriedly held his breath and dodged backward – this poison powder would cause skin rot and blindness if even a little touched him. Having barely dodged, Hu Mei’er scattered another handful of silver needles. In the flashing silver light, countless hidden weapons flew toward him. Yang Suguan saw the weapons were extremely fast and difficult to dodge, so he could only raise his sword to fight desperately. In an instant he flashed out forty-nine cold stars, knocking down countless silver needles. But those needles were really too small – they suddenly pierced through the sword net toward his eyes. Yang Suguan’s eyes were sharp and hands quick – he hurriedly tilted his head aside, but in his nose he smelled a putrid odor coming from those needles. It was extremely dangerous.
Yang Suguan’s face turned pale. Just as he was about to rest briefly, the “Life-Saving Triple Chain” continued one move after another without letting him pause for a moment. Hu Mei’er’s figure flashed as her whisk waved toward his face again. Yang Suguan raised his sword to block when suddenly the whisk sprayed an extremely strange fragrance. Yang Suguan barely smelled it when his brain became dizzy. He hurriedly leaped backward, but in his dizziness he actually stumbled. Hu Mei’er had calculated Yang Suguan’s escape route and arrived first. Taking advantage of his dizziness and momentary distraction, she actually lightly kissed his cheek.
Yang Suguan cried out in alarm, fearing poison. In his panic he wiped his cheek with his hand, only to see it covered with red rouge – not knowing what poison it was, he broke into a cold sweat. Hu Mei’er smiled charmingly: “That’s rouge from my lips – why did you wipe it away?” Yang Suguan couldn’t help feeling ashamed and embarrassed, thinking: “This woman treats me so – how can I walk in the martial world in the future? My teacher is Shaolin’s greatest master. If I’m defeated today, how can I face Shaolin’s thousand-year martial reputation? How can I face my teacher’s instruction?” In his fury his attacks became even more chaotic. In his panic he was actually kissed on the cheek by Hu Mei’er again – feeling soft, tender lips lightly touch his face with a fragrant scent entering his nose. Even in fierce battle, his heart still stirred. The Jinyiwei were mostly troublemakers and laughed heartily: “So fragrant!” Yang Suguan was furious, but the more he fought the more tired he became. Seeing this female demon still looking at him with flushed cheeks and tender feelings, he truly felt unbearable shame.
In his embarrassment, Yang Suguan jumped out of the circle and raised his sword, shouting: “Bold demoness! If you still know life and death, surrender! Otherwise when I use my ultimate technique, don’t blame swords for having no eyes!” Hu Mei’er looked at him tenderly and smiled: “After all, you still care for me to say such words for my understanding.” Yang Suguan had no intention of showing mercy and shook his head: “Ignorant fool! Still acting presumptuously before ‘Nirvana Rebirth’!” His lifetime’s reputation rested entirely on this. He no longer concealed it, swallowing and exhaling vital energy several times before using “Nirvana Rebirth” transmitted by “Shaolin Tianjue.” Once this move appeared, it had reached the final moment.
As his long sword trembled, Yang Suguan’s feet didn’t move and his body didn’t sway, yet his long sword transformed from one to two, two to three, instantly becoming seven swords as if thousand-handed Guanyin had descended. In the blink of an eye, Yang Suguan’s seven swords each shook out seven sword flowers, totaling forty-nine. Dozens of unpredictably changing, ice-cold sword flowers moved back and forth before Yang Suguan.
Though Hu Mei’er had repeatedly toyed with Yang Suguan, seeing this formation her heart trembled as she said in a shaking voice: “Is this the famous ‘Nirvana Rebirth’?” Yang Suguan didn’t answer as his sword flowers each scattered seven cold stars, totaling 343 blue-cold stars. Under the reflected starlight in the sky, they were like a great light cover floating around his body.
This move had even troubled “Sword God” Zhuo Lingzhao – how could a mere “Hundred Flowers Fairy” resist such profound martial arts? Her beautiful face paled as she retreated a step. “Nine-tailed Flood Dragon” Yun Sanlang was a lustful scoundrel who didn’t value his life for beauty. Seeing the beauty before him frightened, regardless of the enemy at hand, he rushed forward to embrace her, laughing: “Fairy don’t panic! I, Yun Sanlang, am here to protect you!” Hu Mei’er said tenderly: “Sanlang, help me vent this anger – kill him for me!” Yun Sanlang was overjoyed. Earlier seeing her toy with Yang Suguan as if she had feelings for this pretty boy, jealousy had surged in his heart – how could he restrain himself? Truly “lust leads to ruin” – he roared and drew his twin blades, actually ignoring the power of “Nirvana Rebirth” and charging straight at Yang Suguan.
Yang Suguan knew the antidote was on this person and was overjoyed. His light net circled around, enveloping Yun Sanlang within.
Yun Sanlang still didn’t know his fate, shouting: “I’ve broken through your sword net and will strike your center now!” Just as he was about to raise his twin blades, his wrists were pierced by the long sword, followed by his shoulders, thighs – not one part uninjured. Covered in blood, he fell to the ground.
Yang Suguan reached into Yun Sanlang’s chest and pulled out the pouch entrusted by Hundred Flowers Fairy. He immediately laughed several times: “The antidote is obtained! I take my leave!” He jumped out of the circle and was about to run toward the mountain hollow.
The Jinyiwei were about to pursue when Hundred Flowers Fairy slowly walked out with a half-smiling expression: “This boy has fallen into my trap!”
Yang Suguan ran several steps when he suddenly felt dizzy and his feet wavered, nearly collapsing. His heart was greatly alarmed: “This pouch is wrong!” Supporting himself with his sword, he barely stood firm and gasped: “You… tampered with the pouch?”
Hu Mei’er laughed: “Yang Langzhong is indeed clever. I coated that pouch’s exterior with deadly poison. Anyone who touches it will die without exception. Look at that boy surnamed Yun!”
Everyone looked and saw Yun Sanlang’s face completely black – already stiff and dead, clearly poisoned.
Yang Suguan was greatly shocked: “What poison is this? How can it be so strange?” Earlier he had seen Hu Mei’er personally hand the pouch to Yun Sanlang, who held it for a long time without incident. Seeing this, Yang Suguan had decided to snatch it – who knew he would be poisoned immediately upon touching it.
Hu Mei’er smiled: “My poison is somewhat special, called ‘Strange Gate Crane Crown.’ Those poisoned will have no problem no matter how long, as long as they don’t circulate internal energy. So though Yun Sanlang touched the pouch, since he didn’t use internal energy, naturally nothing happened. But you, Yang Suguan, after touching the pouch then repeatedly entered battle and moved your hands – with accelerated blood flow, how could it not take effect quickly?” She giggled again: “Unfortunately Yun Sanlang was too competitive and insisted on fighting you desperately. Once he circulated internal energy, it cost him his life!”
Yang Suguan was both shocked and angry, shouting: “How dare you say this? If you hadn’t urged him to challenge me, how would he have died from poison? This person was at least your companion – how… how could you watch him commit suicide?” Yun Sanlang was a Jinyiwei master. Logically, even if Hu Mei’er were ten times more vicious, considering the Jinyiwei’s face she couldn’t poison him to death. Who knew her heart was so cruel that just to scheme against Yang Suguan alone, she wouldn’t hesitate to sacrifice her own people’s lives – truly cold-blooded and vicious.
Hu Mei’er laughed heartily: “If I hadn’t had him attack, how could this pouch reach your hands, Lord Yang? This low-grade thing trading his life for your poisoning isn’t a waste!”
In moments, Yang Suguan was already panting continuously. Seeing Hu Mei’er walking over as if no one else existed, Yang Suguan’s mind raced, trying to find an escape plan.
Hu Mei’er saw his sharp gaze and couldn’t help laughing: “Don’t glare at me – it’s scary! I won’t be nice to you later!”
Yang Suguan heard her teasing and only turned his head away, ignoring her.
In this critical moment, he suddenly saw the Jinyiwei looking displeased and discussing in low voices. Yang Suguan immediately understood and thought of a stratagem. He shouted loudly: “Commander An!”
An Dao Jing was just waiting for Hu Mei’er to seize the sheepskin to complete his great achievement and make his report. Who knew Yang Suguan would suddenly call his name.
An Dao Jing was startled: “What are you doing? Want to leave last words?”
Yang Suguan gathered his remaining strength and shouted: “Commander An! This demoness killed your subordinate just to harm me. You’re a dignified Jinyiwei Sixth-Rank Commander – will you just let this pass?”
An Dao Jing heard this questioning and couldn’t help his face changing slightly, not knowing how to respond.
Hu Mei’er knew Yang Suguan intended to sow discord and smiled at An Dao Jing: “Commander An, killing one of your subordinates tonight means I owe you a favor. This girl will definitely repay you in the future.” Her words treated human life like cattle and horses.
Yang Suguan shouted: “An Dao Jing! She says this without considering you at all – do you still deserve to be a court official?” After saying this, he had no strength left and fell to the ground, completely unable to resist.
The Jinyiwei heard this questioning and all nodded in agreement. Earlier the Jinyiwei had some conflict with “Hundred Flowers Fairy” but ultimately no lives were lost. But now Hu Mei’er had killed someone, treating Jinyiwei lives like dirt – how could everyone swallow this insult? Everyone turned to look at An Dao Jing to see his instructions.
An Dao Jing saw his subordinates full of anger and knew he couldn’t be too unreasonable, or how would he command respect in the future? But this Hu Mei’er had extraordinary status and couldn’t be offended – the situation was truly difficult. An Dao Jing’s mind raced to find a way to muddle through. He coughed several times and said with a hoarse voice: “Hundred Flowers Fairy acting so arbitrarily is indeed too excessive. Tonight daring to kill my subordinate An Dao Jing, I will definitely… will…” He “willed” for a long time but didn’t know what he would do.
Hu Mei’er saw his hesitation and spat: “Is a waste like Yun Sanlang worth your concern? I killed him and you should thank me! Otherwise, when would you get rid of such a waste who daily wastes food?”
The Jinyiwei heard this and angrily shouted: “Bold demoness! Watch your words!”
An Dao Jing saw his subordinates’ angry faces and hurriedly snorted through his nose, raising his voice: “Yes! How can this woman speak so? Our Jinyiwei has its own rules. Even if Yun Sanlang had some faults, it’s not the Fairy’s turn to act, right? Such overstepping – with An Dao Jing here, I… I must… must…”
He originally spoke with a raised voice, but later remembering Hu Mei’er’s extraordinary relationship with Jiang Chong, he deflated like a punctured ball, becoming weaker and weaker until he stammered.
Hu Mei’er snorted: “What is a mere Yun Sanlang? If you really feel sorry, tomorrow I’ll send a charming beauty as compensation. This girl is not only beautiful but skilled in poison arts – guaranteed to restore Jinyiwei’s prestige! How about it?”
An Dao Jing heard of a beauty coming and was overjoyed inside, but his face remained unmoved, fearing his subordinates would look down on him. He quickly looked around, wanting to find a topic to gloss over and divert his subordinates’ attention. Once time passed and everyone forgot this matter, the deal would naturally be complete.
The subordinates saw An Dao Jing’s grave expression and all thought he had other plans. Though angry in their hearts, without their superior’s order, no one dared rashly attack. Everyone remained silent, waiting for An Dao Jing’s instructions.
Hu Mei’er saw An Dao Jing silent and knew he was tempted. She walked toward Yang Suguan to seize the sheepskin.
Just then, someone shouted: “Wait!”
Hu Mei’er was startled and looked back to see someone glaring at her with a completely murderous expression – it was “Snake and Crane Twin Style” Hao Zhenxiang.
Hu Mei’er sneered: “It’s you again. What do you want now?”
Hao Zhenxiang said coldly: “The Fairy despises our Jinyiwei’s lives and casually poisons people to death. How can such behavior be tolerated? I want one hand in payment.” His left hand gathered while his right palm waved, sending a gust of wind – precisely the opening stance of “Snake and Crane Twin Style.”
This “Snake and Crane Twin Style” was a man of blood. Earlier when he saw Hu Mei’er give the pouch to Yun Sanlang, he had already seen she had other schemes. When events unfolded as he predicted, he felt even more self-reproach.
Without waiting for his commander’s orders, he acted on his own to cut off one of Hu Mei’er’s hands in payment.
Hu Mei’er wasn’t afraid at all, only laughing heartily and shrieking: “You want my hand? Are you insane? Who do you think you are?” She laughed uncontrollably, her slender waist trembling wildly, appearing even more seductive.
Hao Zhenxiang snorted as his hands clasped together. True force circulated and his whole skeleton immediately made crackling sounds. This person’s martial arts developed from external to internal – truly an anomaly in the martial world. This display of skill was even more awe-inspiring. He said in a deep voice: “No more words needed – take this!” His left palm formed a circle, transforming into a crane’s beak – precisely the authentic ultimate skill of Hunan’s Hao family “Snake and Crane Twin Style Fist.”
The Jinyiwei had seen Hao Zhenxiang use swords and spears but never his family martial arts. That day when this person fought “Sword Gu” Tu Lingxin for hundreds of moves, he only used an ordinary ghost-head saber. Now seeing his demeanor, he truly intended to kill.
Hu Mei’er saw his murderous intent and dared not underestimate him. She immediately waved her whisk to receive the attack.
An Dao Jing knew this person’s martial arts were profound and he always kept his word with extremely heavy attacks. This “Hundred Flowers Fairy” would likely suffer immediately. He hurriedly rushed between them and whispered to Hao Zhenxiang: “Instructor Hao, Lord Jiang loves this woman most. You must spare her. If you really harm her limbs, I won’t need to continue as commander! Quickly withdraw and apologize to her to avoid everyone’s embarrassment…”
Hao Zhenxiang was stunned and shouted: “Commander, we’ve lost a brother! If we swallow this insult, who will respect us in the future?” Earlier he had seen An Dao Jing remain silent and thought he was constrained by Jiang Chong’s face and couldn’t act. Who knew An Dao Jing’s thoughts were entirely on Jiang Chong without any consideration for his own brothers. Thinking of this, his heart went cold.
An Dao Jing saw him still hesitating and lowered his voice: “What are you still standing there for? That Yun fellow had no relationship with you – if he’s dead, he’s dead. Why do you care? Quickly withdraw!”
Hao Zhenxiang sighed. He lowered his head to look at Yun Sanlang’s body and shook his head: “Lord An, regardless of my private relationship with Yun Sanlang, as long as this person was in the Jinyiwei, he counts as our brother! He was killed tonight without cause – thinking of our brotherhood, how can you and I ignore this? If his family asks about it, how can we explain to them?”
He pointed at Yun Sanlang’s body and asked several questions in succession. How could An Dao Jing answer? The subordinates looking at Yun Sanlang’s bleeding face all felt Hao Zhenxiang spoke reasonably and loudly agreed.
An Dao Jing, pressed with repeated questions and desperate, actually spoke without choosing his words, shouting: “There are as many of this type as you want! He dies his death – what business is it of yours, Hao Zhenxiang! Listen to me and you won’t be wrong – stop meddling!”
The Jinyiwei heard these words and felt An Dao Jing spoke with extreme coldness. They couldn’t help being shocked. Hao Zhenxiang was also stunned. For a moment, his blood boiled with anger as he turned to glare at An Dao Jing, his gaze full of fury and reproach.
An Dao Jing was startled, thinking he would attack him. He suddenly retreated a step in panic: “Instructor Hao, think clearly! I’m your lifesaver!”
Indeed, this phrase hit the vital point. Upon hearing this, Hao Zhenxiang was stunned on the spot and didn’t move for a long time.
An Dao Jing said quietly: “Instructor Hao, for your own future, for your lifesaver’s official cap, let it go! Don’t make things difficult for yourself!”
Hao Zhenxiang heard these words and thought of An Dao Jing’s kindness in saving his entire family. Both emotionally and logically, he shouldn’t make things difficult for him. Hao Zhenxiang bit his teeth and remained motionless for a long while. Finally, he let out a long sigh and lowered his hands, clearly submitting.
An Dao Jing saw him yield and couldn’t help patting his chest in relief.
Hu Mei’er saw Hao Zhenxiang looking dejected and walked up several steps with a smile, placing her hands on her hips and standing fearlessly before him. She laughed coquettishly: “What a mighty and imposing instructor! Actually wanting me to cut off a hand in compensation? Come and attack! Why don’t you dare now?” Her words were full of provocation.
Hao Zhenxiang took a deep breath and turned his head away, unwilling to look at her.
Hu Mei’er sneered: “Cowardly thing! You don’t dare attack – do you think I’ll let you off?” She shrieked and swung her whisk straight at Hao Zhenxiang’s head. This whisk was full of mechanisms and extremely venomous – if it struck solidly, even Hao Zhenxiang probably couldn’t withstand it.
An Dao Jing was shocked, not expecting Hu Mei’er to suddenly attack. Just as he was about to step forward to mediate, he saw Hao Zhenxiang’s body shift sideways, already dodging the killing move. Hu Mei’er saw he dodged quite easily, seemingly still having strength to spare, and couldn’t help being both shocked and angry. She immediately spat and shouted: “Die!” Instantly using hidden weapons, the whisk suddenly sprayed out thousands of silver needles, all shooting toward Hao Zhenxiang’s body.
Hao Zhenxiang neither avoided nor yielded. He exhaled and shouted, and in moments his entire clothing puffed up like inflated balloons. The silver needles striking his clothes were like hitting copper walls and iron barriers – all blocked.
Hu Mei’er was greatly shocked, thinking: “This monster’s martial arts are truly formidable! With my strength alone, I definitely can’t handle him.”
Hu Mei’er’s poisonous needles were sinister and invincible – countless martial arts masters had fallen to her hands. Who knew they would be completely ineffective against Hao Zhenxiang. Judging from their exchange, if Hao Zhenxiang hadn’t held back, he could have killed Hu Mei’er in less than ten moves.
An Dao Jing saw Hao Zhenxiang had the overwhelming advantage and feared he might lose control and accidentally harm Hu Mei’er. He hurriedly stood between them and mediated: “Everyone stop fighting! Our main business is important!”
Hu Mei’er snorted. Knowing she couldn’t handle Hao Zhenxiang alone, she shouted sternly: “An Dao Jing! Whose side are you on?”
An Dao Jing coughed lightly and said with a forced smile: “Fairy, please rest first and don’t get angry anymore.”
Hu Mei’er spat and said hatefully: “Stop your nonsense! Tonight I must kill this bastard surnamed Hao! If you won’t help me, let’s go before Jiang Chong and speak clearly! See how I deal with you!” The Jinyiwei heard her openly sowing discord and were all shocked and alarmed, crying out in surprise. Hao Zhenxiang heard these words and his heart trembled as he turned to look at An Dao Jing to see his response.
An Dao Jing’s face was ashen as he said tremblingly: “Fairy, please don’t do this! You two have no deep hatred – why must you fight to the death?”
Hu Mei’er cursed: “Ungrateful thing!” She walked over and pressed close to An Dao Jing’s shoulder, whispering: “Surname An, didn’t you see that look in Hao’s eyes? He completely looks down on you. This Instructor Hao is so capable at conducting himself, and his martial arts are higher than yours. Now that he’s developed rebellious thoughts, how will you suppress him in the future? I advise you – kill him!”
Seeing that intimidation failed, she changed to soft persuasion, determined to make An Dao Jing break with Hao Zhenxiang.
An Dao Jing heard these words and his face alternated between green and red – clearly Hu Mei’er’s words had hit his concerns. The onlookers saw the two whispering with quite unusual demeanor and all paid attention, not knowing what important matter they were discussing.
Hu Mei’er stared at An Dao Jing and lowered her voice: “Commander An, let me advise you – it’s either him or me. This Hao Zhenxiang completely looks down on you – why must you protect him to the death? Will he be grateful to you in the future? Be decisive and finish him off. Otherwise, hmph, we might as well wait and see.”
An Dao Jing was extremely terrified, knowing that if Hu Mei’er whispered poison in Jiang Chong’s ear, his days would be difficult. He sighed quietly and turned to look at Hao Zhenxiang, who stood there with a rather sorrowful expression. With his martial arts, though Hu Mei’er spoke quietly, every word had fallen into his ears without omission.
Hu Mei’er snorted and said quietly: “Commander An, think it through yourself.” Her voice was ice-cold, completely urging him to act.
Everyone in the field looked at An Dao Jing to see what he would decide.
Suddenly, they saw An Dao Jing’s knees go soft as he actually knelt before Hu Mei’er! Tears streamed down his face as he cried: “Fairy, I beg you! Please spare Instructor Hao! Regarding today’s matter, please be magnanimous and don’t mention it to Lord Jiang. If you’re angry, beat and scold me to vent, but don’t make things difficult for our Instructor Hao!”
The Jinyiwei saw An Dao Jing suddenly kneel and were all greatly surprised, discussing among themselves.
Hu Mei’er sneered: “Fine, An Dao Jing! Even unto death you still protect this surname Hao! Do you think I’m easily bullied? If you want to stand up for him, we might as well see what happens!”
She berated him harshly while An Dao Jing only kowtowed repeatedly, tears streaming down his face – truly terrified to the extreme.
Hao Zhenxiang had originally despised An Dao Jing’s character, but now seeing him kneel before Hu Mei’er to plead for his safety, how could he not be moved and stirred? Hao Zhenxiang cried out and rushed forward, shouting: “Sir, why must you be so humble for my sake? I, Hao, am merely a warrior – even if I died, it would just be a worthless life. How can you bow your head for me?”
An Dao Jing knelt and cried: “It’s all because I’m a useless commander. Though I hold the rank of sixth-grade court official, I can’t protect my subordinate’s life. Now this woman wants me to harm you – how could I do such a thing? But if this woman speaks poison to Lord Jiang, you’ll surely suffer in the future. Instructor Hao, tonight I’ll risk Lord Jiang’s punishment to save your life – quickly go!”
Hao Zhenxiang trembled all over as he helped An Dao Jing up, saying through gritted teeth: “These days I’ve been deeply grateful for your care, sir. Tonight I’ll leave on my own to silence that woman. Please take care of yourself, sir.”
The two embraced tightly as An Dao Jing wept: “Instructor Hao, I’m sorry – our Jinyiwei can’t accommodate you. Quickly leave!”
Hao Zhenxiang’s tiger eyes filled with tears as he said quietly: “Commander, I’ve implicated you. I’ll definitely repay this in the future.” He embraced him, their words flowing with genuine emotion.
Just as the two were grieving, suddenly An Dao Jing’s expression darkened, his mouth seeming to show a sinister smile, then he drew the dagger from his waist and thrust it forward viciously!
Hao Zhenxiang was still weeping and hadn’t noticed anything amiss when with a “puff” sound, the dagger had already plunged into his abdomen!
Even if Hao Zhenxiang were a hundred times more clever, he never would have expected An Dao Jing to ambush him. He looked down at the dagger in his belly, completely unable to believe the reality before his eyes. The nearby Jinyiwei were also extremely shocked, only staring wide-eyed at the two men.
After a long while, Hao Zhenxiang coughed up a mouthful of fresh blood – clearly the blade had injured his internal organs. Knowing his life was in danger, he asked quietly: “Why?”
An Dao Jing’s eyes widened as he said coldly: “You still dare ask me why? Damn you, Hao Zhenxiang! Tonight I pleaded for you repeatedly, yet you turn around and bite me! What is that Yun Sanlang? Why did you stand up for him? Are you trying to build prestige and buy people’s hearts? Or do you want to eliminate me as commander and become the boss yourself? Hao Zhenxiang, ah Hao Zhenxiang! This Jinyiwei is a great dye vat – if you want to emerge from mud unstained, that violates heaven’s law!”
It seemed An Dao Jing had been holding back for a long time – his earlier tears were merely acting. Speaking to this vicious point, he twisted his hand and pulled out the dagger. Hao Zhenxiang screamed miserably as blood spurted out, staining the desert red.
At the moment of death, Hao Zhenxiang looked up at the starry sky. Suddenly Wu Dingyuan’s words from that day echoed in his ears: “You’re helping tigers do evil – you’ll definitely have no good end!” He smiled bitterly as his body slowly went limp, finally collapsing to the ground motionless.
Though the Jinyiwei were vicious and ruthless, seeing such cruel harm to their own brothers was their first time witnessing it, and they couldn’t help crying out in horror.
Hu Mei’er was both shocked and delighted, never expecting An Dao Jing had already planned murder. She immediately shouted: “Lord An, well done!” An Dao Jing, having committed such a heinous act, couldn’t boast and only laughed dryly, not knowing what to say.
Hu Mei’er walked over and laughed heartily, kicking Hao Zhenxiang’s body and spitting: “This man was so arrogant – such a death is too good for him.”
Though An Dao Jing was ruthlessly vicious, he had ultimately been forced into it. Seeing his great general dead on the ground, his heart couldn’t be without feeling. He coughed and pointed at Yang Suguan: “Now that someone is dead and the Fairy’s anger should be dissipated, let’s quickly go get the sheepskin!”
Suddenly Hu Mei’er laughed heartily: “An Dao Jing, you’re so naive! Your ten-odd brothers here all saw you personally kill your own brother. If this spreads in the future, it won’t be good for your reputation. Let’s just do it all at once.”
An Dao Jing was shocked and said tremblingly: “What are you saying?”
Hu Mei’er yawned: “I’m planning for you – why are you still hesitating? Eliminate these few people to prevent anyone from gossiping behind your back in the future. If the Jinyiwei needs subordinates, aren’t there plenty in the martial world?” She took out her whisk and walked toward the crowd.
It turned out Hu Mei’er was deeply scheming. Tonight she first poisoned Yun Sanlang to death, then indirectly caused Hao Zhenxiang’s death. If Jiang Chong asked about it later, she wouldn’t be able to explain well either. So she simply found an excuse to force An Dao Jing to personally kill, also dragging him down with her.
The lieutenants saw Hu Mei’er’s murderous expression and not knowing her intentions, all retreated a step.
An Dao Jing was covered in cold sweat, thinking: “I always thought I was vicious, but meeting this woman, I’m truly a minor witch meeting a major one.” Looking at his subordinates and thinking of past camaraderie, he momentarily softened and called: “Wait! Don’t act!”
Hu Mei’er sneered: “What are you up to now? Don’t tell me you want to plead for these people too? You’re supposed to be a commander but don’t even have this much courage – truly a waste!”
An Dao Jing’s heart trembled, knowing he couldn’t offend Hu Mei’er. His mind raced as he suddenly thought of the beautiful woman Hu Mei’er was about to send, and his heart stirred. Then he thought of Jiang Chong’s brutal methods of controlling subordinates and broke into a cold sweat. Knowing he couldn’t resist Hu Mei’er, he hardened his heart, turned his head away, and said through gritted teeth: “Kill them! Kill them all!”
Hu Mei’er smiled: “Won’t you do it yourself?” An Dao Jing was furious inside, thinking: “How can this slut be so heartless?” He forced himself to restrain his anger and panted: “How can I bring myself to do it? Hundred Flowers Fairy, please do me this favor and kill these people!”
Hu Mei’er laughed heartily: “So even you have times when you can’t act! After I finish this business for you, how will you thank me?” An Dao Jing waved his hand: “Whatever!”
Yang Suguan saw the continuous strange disasters before him – these people inexplicably killing each other. For a moment, no one paid attention to his life or death, and no one came to search him. He struggled to sit on the ground and circulated energy to protect his heart meridian. If Ling Ding and the others came a moment earlier, there would be hope of reversing the situation.
“Hundred Flowers Fairy” lightly walked toward the Jinyiwei crowd, raising her whisk to begin a massacre like cutting melons and vegetables. One person raised his blade to block her whisk, but suddenly silver needles shot out from within, immediately blinding that person. Hu Mei’er raised her whisk and swept – that person’s brains splattered and he died. Several lieutenants had quite high martial arts. After exchanging only a few moves, Hu Mei’er was hit by several punches, but those who struck her clothing couldn’t even take a breath before foaming at the mouth and falling dead on the spot. Everyone saw they really couldn’t resist and retreated.
“Thunder God Boom” Shan Guoyi trembled all over, not knowing how to resist the enemy. Holding his spiked mace, he protected his usual brothers. Though these people were evil companions who ate, drank, and played together, in times of trouble, that friendship wasn’t necessarily diminished.
Hu Mei’er laughed: “The more you resist, the more enjoyable it is for this girl to kill.”
She lightly waved her whisk and walked toward the crowd with a spring breeze expression, looking as if she were strolling through a market, not at all like a murderous female demon. Her whisk swept out as Shan Guoyi cried out, swinging his spiked mace in a desperate fight to the death. Silver light flashed before his eyes as countless tiny silver needles flew toward him – this time it seemed certain death.
Suddenly dust and sand flew up from the ground like a wall of earth blocking in front, actually stopping the countless silver needles. Shan Guoyi escaped death and turned to look, seeing someone supporting his abdomen with a pale face walking toward him – it was “Snake and Crane Twin Style” Hao Zhenxiang!
The Jinyiwei saw he wasn’t dead yet and cheered, knowing they had one more chance at survival.
Hu Mei’er cursed: “Little brat, why aren’t you dead yet?” Hao Zhenxiang chuckled coldly and cursed: “Before killing this whore, how could Hao die?” He pointed at An Dao Jing with wide, angry eyes and roared: “An Dao Jing! I risked life and death for you – how could you listen to this whore’s instigation? You despicable, shameless thing! As long as I have one breath left, I’ll pursue you to the ends of the earth to take your dog life!”
An Dao Jing laughed heartily: “Seems that blade wasn’t inserted deep enough to kill you completely.” He drew his precious blade: “Good luck doesn’t come twice! Instructor Hao, go peacefully to the Western Heaven!”
Hao Zhenxiang’s injuries were truly severe. He had used his last breath to kick out that foot and save his brothers’ lives. Now if he were to fight An Dao Jing, with their skills being roughly equal, even if Hao Zhenxiang were completely uninjured, he would need over a hundred moves to defeat him. How could he be a match now? Hao Zhenxiang swayed unsteadily but still raised his blade and moved forward.
An Dao Jing laughed: “Reckless bravery!” He kicked out heavily toward Hao Zhenxiang’s chest.
Hao Zhenxiang wanted to swing his steel blade, but suddenly his dantian ached greatly and his true force was impure, so the blade slowed down. An Dao Jing saw the opportunity couldn’t be missed and immediately changed his leg to palm, knocking him to the ground, then stepped on him with a sinister smile: “Instructor Hao, what else do you have to say?”
Hao Zhenxiang’s eyes flashed with golden stars but he still cursed continuously, shouting: “Quickly give me a blade! I don’t want to see your shameless behavior!”
An Dao Jing laughed heartily: “You really have nothing to ask of me? What about your wife and children? After you die, who will look after them?”
Hao Zhenxiang heard these words and his face was ashen. An Dao Jing held high position and power – if he wanted to make things difficult for his family, it would be as easy as crushing a nest of ants. Thinking of this, his original heroic spirit completely dissipated. He stared blankly at the night sky, thinking of his family, and couldn’t help sighing quietly: “I’ll die, but considering my past service to you, don’t make things difficult for my family.”
An Dao Jing laughed heartily: “Instructor Hao, ah Instructor Hao! After all, you’re still begging me!”
Hao Zhenxiang’s tiger eyes filled with tears as his face showed a pleading expression, saying quietly: “Commander, after I die, please spare my entire family.”
An Dao Jing saw his expression and remembered his loyal and dedicated service, so he nodded and was about to agree when suddenly Hu Mei’er walked over and smiled: “How come this person still has a wife and children?”
An Dao Jing’s heart sank, knowing this woman had another vicious scheme. But since it didn’t concern him, there was no need to hide it: “Yes! This person has a wife and two children at home.”
Hu Mei’er said joyfully: “Really?” She smiled and said to Hao Zhenxiang: “Earlier you called me a whore and said before killing me you would never die, right?”
Hao Zhenxiang angrily said: “Whore! If you have guts, kill me! If I, Hao, say one more word to such a whore, it would dirty my mouth!”
Hu Mei’er laughed: “Such a hard mouth! Since you say I’m a whore who relies on sleeping with men to establish herself in the martial world, let’s see how your wife gets by after you die? I’m very kind-hearted – in the future I’ll definitely find your wife a way to live. I think the Yihua Brothel in the capital is quite short-handed – why not work there!”
Hao Zhenxiang was furious and immediately roared, spitting blood from his mouth. That cry shook the mountains and traveled far.
Hu Mei’er asked again: “How old are his children?”
An Dao Jing said: “Two children – the boy is seven or eight, the girl fifteen or sixteen.”
Hu Mei’er laughed: “Good! That’s settled then! Send the boy to the palace to be castrated as a eunuch, and send the girl to me. In the future I’ll make her the most promiscuous slut that everyone can have, the most shameless whore in the martial world. I want everyone in the martial world to know her father was what… what was it again?”
An Dao Jing interjected: “‘Snake and Crane Twin Style’ Hao Zhenxiang.”
Hu Mei’er laughed: “Right, that’s him.” She smiled at Hao Zhenxiang: “I’ve seen many men like you who think they’re tough guys. Just a few tricks of framing and you’re guaranteed to die without burial ground.”
Hao Zhenxiang lay on the ground, having bitten through his silver teeth, his whole head covered in cold sweat. An Dao Jing saw his state and though feeling some pity, how could he dare bring trouble upon himself now? He turned his head away and no longer looked at him.
Hu Mei’er laughed heartily: “Surname Hao, I’ll give you a chance. As long as you make me happy, I can spare your family’s lives.”
Hao Zhenxiang now had no backbone left, only wanting to save his family: “Say… what do you want…”
Hu Mei’er laughed: “You forgot so quickly! Earlier I said I’d definitely make you kneel and beg for mercy in the future. What did you say then?”
Hao Zhenxiang’s eyes seemed ready to spit fire, but circumstances were stronger than people. He could only say quietly: “I said… I said with the young lady’s martial arts, you’d probably need to practice several more years.” He lay on the ground with an extremely weak voice.
Hu Mei’er laughed loudly: “Exactly that phrase! Surname Hao, you arrogant and conceited fellow! Do you think your martial arts are number one in the world? I tell you, with my beauty and charm, how many princes and ministers bow before my skirt? Even if I knew no martial arts at all, I could still make martial arts masters kneel and beg, kowtowing and apologizing to me!”
Hao Zhenxiang had lost too much blood and knew death was imminent. Who knew he would suffer such humiliation? He closed his eyes and endured silently, only hearing Hu Mei’er laugh: “Quickly come kneel before this young lady and beg for mercy, or I’ll bring disaster upon your descendants!”
Hao Zhenxiang was pale as a ghost, glaring hatefully at Hu Mei’er, only wishing he could die quickly. But for his family, no matter what, he had to swallow this insult. His eyes reddened as he crawled on the ground and panted: “Please, Fairy, show mercy and spare my entire family.”
Hu Mei’er slapped him twice and cursed: “Don’t you know how to cry when begging? Cry for me!”
Hao Zhenxiang bit his teeth and said hoarsely: “Fairy… please spare us…”
Hu Mei’er covered her mouth and laughed: “So stupid! Looking at your foolish appearance really kills me with laughter!”
Hao Zhenxiang suddenly raised his head and said tremblingly: “…What did you say?”
Hu Mei’er laughed: “They all say people like you are easiest to deceive. But do you think performing such a monkey show will make me spare your family? Ridiculous! Surname Hao, you just wait obediently in the underworld and watch! See what miserable fate your wife and children suffer! Haha! Haha!”
Hao Zhenxiang realized he’d been deceived and instantly felt his liver and gallbladder split. He screamed miserably and used all his strength to ram into Hu Mei’er.
Hu Mei’er kicked out, knocking him to the ground, and sneered: “Ignorant and arrogant dead thing! Hurry up and die!” She raised her whisk to strike his head.
Hao Zhenxiang was full of grievances. Suddenly thinking of his life’s ambitions – he had thought that with his superior martial arts he could serve his country loyally and achieve fame and glory. Who would have expected to end up in such a state? In his grief and indignation, he couldn’t help crying out loud, tears rolling down like a flood.
