Chapter 101: Untitled

“On second thought, do you really not know who I am?”

Ke Wenguang considered himself not quite as famous as Wei Long, but surely not to the point where someone wouldn’t recognize him? He had starred in quite a few TV dramas, after all.

Rong Qian studied his face for a moment. He was fairly handsome, though his good looks differed from Shen Yi’s breathtaking kind of beauty. His features were pleasant — the atmospheric sort of handsome — and he had a somewhat goofy, husky-dog energy about him.

“Sorry, I genuinely don’t remember you,” Rong Qian said. Then, trying to soften the blow, she added, “Though — maybe people from my mother’s generation who like watching Hong Kong dramas might know you!”

Ke Wenguang: “???”

Ke Wenguang felt that sting all the more sharply. He was only in his twenties, yet his fans were apparently all auntie-aged?

“No, that’s not what I meant… forget it. What’s your name?” Rong Qian didn’t bother explaining further. Whatever. It didn’t matter.

Ke Wenguang reluctantly said, “Ke Wenguang.”

Rong Qian turned the name over in her mind and still drew a blank. Never mind — that wasn’t the point. She asked him, “Mr. Ke, what year is it right now?”

“Are you some kind of obsessive fan who’s lost her mind? This is the kind of thing even children know, and you’re asking me?” Ke Wenguang looked at her with contempt and flatly refused to answer.

Seeing he wouldn’t tell her, Rong Qian reached over and grabbed the film script sitting on the cabinet for a look. Ke Wenguang spotted this and immediately snatched it back. “Who said you could look at that?”

Rong Qian had no interest in his script — she only wanted to see the film’s title so she could confirm the shooting date. Having done so, she said in surprise, “It’s 1984 right now?”

“What else would it be?” Ke Wenguang tucked the script safely away, making sure she couldn’t look at it again.

Rong Qian did the mental arithmetic. 1984 — which meant Shen Yi was currently 28 years old.

Six years had passed since the last time they’d met…

Six years. For her, only a few short days had gone by — yet for Shen Yi, it had been another long stretch of waiting.

“Sigh.” Rong Qian couldn’t help letting out a heavy breath.

Ke Wenguang said irritably, “What are you sighing about? I’m the one who should be crying — you beat me up for no reason, so what are you going to do to make it up to me?”

“Help me get to Wei Long, and I’ll make it up to you.” Rong Qian knew perfectly well that if she wanted to see Shen Yi, Ke Wenguang was her only way in.

Ke Wenguang could barely believe what he was hearing. “Are you serious? You’re still chasing your idol at a time like this? Don’t think that just because I’m sitting here talking to you calmly, I’ve forgotten what you did to me earlier. When my manager gets here, I’m calling the police.”

“Rather than blowing this up by calling the police, wouldn’t it be better to do me one small favor and let Wei Long owe you one? What do you think?” Rong Qian offered him a choice.

Ke Wenguang raised an eyebrow. “Let Wei Long owe me a favor? What are you to him?”

“Someone who matters to him, more or less.” Saying it out loud made Rong Qian a little embarrassed.

Ke Wenguang’s expression turned scornful. “Give me a break. A fan, claiming to be important to her idol — let me tell you, the people your so-called idols can’t stand the most are fans exactly like you!”

“Fine, I’ll be straight with you then — I’m not his fan. I know him. We’re friends,” Rong Qian said bluntly, laying her cards on the table.

Ke Wenguang didn’t believe a word of it. “Do you think I’m an idiot? Wei Long, of all people — and you’re his friend?”

“Whether I know Wei Long or not, all you have to do is contact him and it’ll be crystal clear,” Rong Qian said without the slightest trace of anxiety.

Seeing her unshaken composure, Ke Wenguang asked, “You really know Wei Long?”

“Mm-hmm.”

Ke Wenguang added, “So… you’re a woman Wei Long has slept with?”

“Of course I— what are you talking about?!” Rong Qian caught herself and immediately pushed back. “Can’t your mind go somewhere more decent for once?”

“What’s wrong with that? You don’t actually think your Wei Long has never been with a woman, do you? Only fans believe nonsense like that.” Ke Wenguang curled his lip.

Then he told her with a completely straight face: “You probably don’t even know this, but when your Wei Long was a teenager, he lived with a woman in her twenties. Given that, do you really believe he’s still a wide-eyed innocent at twenty-eight? Give me a break.”

Ke Wenguang punctuated his words with two exaggerated clicks of his tongue.

Rong Qian rubbed the back of her head, looking slightly awkward. Hearing it put that way, she had to admit it did sound rather unusual.

Though at the time, she truly hadn’t thought of it in those terms — and she hadn’t expected that, after all this time, anyone would still know about it.

“Why do you look so guilty? Is it because I just exposed the real Wei Long?” Ke Wenguang had expected her to argue back and defend her idol. Her flustered reaction, however, caught him off guard.

Could it be — it wasn’t just a rumor? Could it actually be true?

Rong Qian certainly wasn’t going to tell him that the woman who had lived with Shen Yi was her. She said decisively, “One question — are you going to help me make contact or not? If not, I’m leaving.”

“Stop right there.” Ke Wenguang blocked her way. “Tell me honestly — do you really know Wei Long?”

“Really.” Rong Qian’s face was all sincerity.

Ke Wenguang stood up. “All right. I’ll contact him.”

“Can you reach him directly?” Rong Qian quickly asked.

Ke Wenguang gave her a look. “Dream on. You think you can just see Wei Long whenever you feel like it? The best I can do is reach his secretary and have her pass the message along.”

“You mean Xu Mo?”

“Well, well — not bad, you even know Xu Mo. But Xu Mo is his manager. His secretary’s name is Sheng Wanqing.”

As Ke Wenguang spoke, he was already picking up the receiver to make the call.

Rong Qian paused. Sheng Wanqing? That sounded like a woman’s name.

While she was still thinking about it, Ke Wenguang had already gotten through. He exchanged a few pleasantries with the other party, then realized he still didn’t know Rong Qian’s name. “Right — what’s your name?”

Rong Qian came back to herself. “Rong Qian.”

Ke Wenguang nodded, said what he needed to say, and hung up. Rong Qian asked him, “What did they say?”

“She said she understood and is dealing with it now. All you can do is wait for her to call back.”

Rong Qian nodded. She would have preferred to speak to the other party directly, but since it had come to this, she’d just have to wait.

Before long, Sheng Wanqing called back. After Ke Wenguang hung up, he turned to Rong Qian and said, “Her car is parked out front of the hotel. Go find her.”

“Mr. Ke, if you dare set me up, you know what the consequences will be,” Rong Qian reminded him as she headed for the door.

Ke Wenguang rolled his eyes. “Do I look like that kind of person? You’re the one who should be thinking about how to convince Secretary Sheng that you actually know Wei Long.”

With that, Rong Qian went on her way without concern.

The moment Rong Qian left, the corner of Ke Wenguang’s mouth curved into a small, gleeful smirk.

Either way, he came out ahead. If this woman really did know Wei Long, then Wei Long would owe him a favor. If she’d been lying to him, he’d handed her off to Sheng Wanqing to deal with — and then it would be Sheng Wanqing who owed him one.

As it turned out, this time it was Rong Qian who had been careless.

Because she didn’t know that, given Shen Yi’s reputation, countless women claimed every single day to know him or to have had a night with him.

And Sheng Wanqing was the one in charge of dealing with all of them.

Naturally, Rong Qian had just been lumped in with all the rest.
