Chapter 55: I Just Think You’re Pretty Scary

Rong Qian knew this doctor suspected something was wrong with her head, and yet she couldn’t exactly tell him the truth.

So Rong Qian forced out a couple of awkward laughs, putting on a smile despite herself. “Yes, yes, I just woke up a bit groggy. I had a dream and thought I’d traveled through time.”

“Pfft.” Qiao Junche couldn’t help but laugh. This young lady was quite the character.

“Let’s get acquainted—my name is Qiao Junche. The ‘Jun’ from ‘gentleman,’ and ‘Che’ from ‘clear and pure.’ And what’s your name, miss?” Qiao Junche introduced himself first.

Rong Qian raised an eyebrow—this name of his seemed quite “far removed” from the impression the man himself gave off.

Also, whether it was her imagination or not, Rong Qian kept feeling like this Dr. Qiao was being overly enthusiastic toward her. But if she had to guess he’d taken a liking to her, that didn’t quite seem to fit either.

“I’m Rong Qian.” Regardless, Rong Qian introduced herself quite openly.

Qiao Junche nodded thoughtfully. Although he had never once heard Shen Yi mention this name before, he had a feeling that from now on, a certain someone would be bringing it up quite often.

“Do you know which kind soul brought me to the hospital?” Rong Qian suddenly remembered to ask him.

She remembered passing out, but had no idea what happened after that.

“Kind soul?” Qiao Junche paused for a moment. Could it be that she didn’t know about Shen Yi?

“If you don’t know, never mind.” Rong Qian, assuming he didn’t know, immediately started to get out of bed. Seeing this, Qiao Junche hurried to stop her. “You’re not fully recovered yet, what are you doing?”

“I see the IV bag is almost done. Help me take the needle out.” Rong Qian’s spirits seemed great—nothing about her gave the impression of someone with serious injuries.

Rong Qian said it so casually, but Qiao Junche was alarmed. “You can’t take it out yet! After this bag, there’s still another one. If you need to use the bathroom, I’ll call a nurse to help you.”

“I want to be discharged.” Rong Qian said it straight out.

Qiao Junche frowned. “Even if you want to be discharged, there’s no rush. Given your injuries, you’ll need at least ten days to two weeks of recovery.”

“It won’t take that long. They’re just minor injuries—I just need to make sure to rest more normally.” Rong Qian still insisted on leaving.

Qiao Junche didn’t understand. “Why are you in such a hurry to leave?”

“There’s someone very important to me—I need to find him right away, so I have to be discharged.” Rong Qian truly had no time to waste.

She still didn’t know where Shen Yi was, and she had to find him as soon as possible!

“This important person you speak of—would that be me?”

Just as Rong Qian finished speaking, a man’s warm, deep voice came from the doorway. Rong Qian looked up, and found it was none other than Shen Yi himself.

More precisely, it was Shen Yi, six years after their last meeting, now twenty-two years old.

Although Rong Qian knew that her own Shen Yi would only grow more charming as he aged, seeing him caught off guard in the prime of his youth still left her momentarily stunned, staring at him in a daze.

How could anyone possibly look this good?

Shen Yi had clearly just returned from an event—his hair was styled, and he was wearing a designer suit arranged by the event organizers. The design was quite flashy; on anyone who couldn’t pull it off, it would have made them look like some flower-loving playboy out to attract attention.

But on Shen Yi, paired with his physique and his noble, dignified air, the entire outfit was instantly elevated to a whole new level.

This was nothing like a playboy at all—he looked exactly like some wealthy young heir on the run from his family!

What’s more, Rong Qian noticed that although he looked calm on the surface, his breathing wasn’t steady—which meant he had probably run all the way here…

“You’re here.” Qiao Junche greeted him.

Shen Yi took off his jacket, and the moment he did, Qiao Junche walked over out of habit to take it. Shen Yi handed it over to him naturally too.

Rong Qian just watched as Shen Yi walked over to her, then sat down at the side of her bed. He reached out to feel her forehead, then said, “Good, no fever.”

And after that, he said nothing more.

His sudden silence left Rong Qian unsure what to say either, but soon, she understood why he had fallen silent.

“Oh, I just remembered I have something to take care of, so I’ll head out first. You two take your time chatting.” Qiao Junche, being tactful, even remembered to close the door behind him as he left.

Once Rong Qian caught on, she clicked her tongue. Had this guy already reached such a level?

Without saying a word, just one look—or even just a single gesture—and the other person could instantly understand what he meant?

“What are you thinking about?” Seeing her look of surprise, Shen Yi couldn’t help but laugh.

“I just think you’re pretty scary.” Rong Qian looked at him and said with feeling, “Even though you look very different now, deep down you’re still you.”

Shen Yi paused for a moment.

“You’ve just traded coldness for another weapon called gentleness. So even though you put on this refined, elegant front, the people around you are still quite wary of you underneath.” Rong Qian saw right through him at a glance.

After all, she was the one who had watched him grow up.

The smile at the corners of Shen Yi’s mouth deepened, and the way he gazed at her grew even more meaningful.

Rong Qian rubbed her nose. “Don’t look at me like that, I’m easily scared.” What I’m most afraid of is dealing with someone with your kind of personality, because I just can’t handle it!

Of course, this latter part Rong Qian didn’t say out loud.

She had a very straightforward personality, and the only type she couldn’t handle was someone like Shen Yi—if she had to describe it in one word, it would be “scheming.”

Vicious, brutal people weren’t scary—it was the ones who looked harmless but were secretly cunning that were truly frightening!

“You? Easily scared?”

Shen Yi lightly tapped her forehead—the gesture intimate, the tone doting—but Rong Qian didn’t feel uncomfortable at all.

Because Shen Yi’s hand withdrew quickly afterward, and even though he was sitting at the side of her bed, he kept a certain distance from her.

He always maintained a sense of boundaries—this boundary could also be called a sense of propriety.

Because of this, Rong Qian never felt that she had been overstepped.

But Rong Qian didn’t know that if it weren’t for his fear of frightening her, Shen Yi wouldn’t have wanted to keep this maddening sense of distance between them at all…

Xu Mo had exhausted himself chasing after Shen Yi the whole way.

The moment the car pulled up to the clinic, before Xu Mo even had a chance to say anything to him, Shen Yi had already vanished.

Turning to look, the man had already strode in through the clinic’s front door on his long legs, maintaining his composure even in his haste. By the time Xu Mo hurriedly undid his seatbelt and got out, he couldn’t even catch a glimpse of Shen Yi’s coattails anymore.

Xu Mo was truly baffled. Wasn’t she just some female fan? Was it really necessary to stay glued to her side all day yesterday without leaving even once?

And even at the event he’d attended, he’d been so distracted, constantly checking his watch and counting down the time until it ended, just so he could rush straight to the clinic!

Could it be that this was the first time he’d hit someone this hard, and he was worried she might not wake up, which would land him with a bad reputation?

If that were really the case—forget about Shen Yi being scared, Xu Mo was even more scared!

“Xu Mo, your stamina’s pretty bad—your boss has already been here a while, and you’re only just coming up now?”

Qiao Junche had already been sitting on the sofa in the reception hall, legs crossed, waiting for Xu Mo to come up.

Xu Mo shot him an irritated glare and asked, “Is that woman awake?”

“Yeah, she’s awake.”

The moment he heard she was awake, Xu Mo perked right up. “I’ll go take a look!”

“That won’t do.” Qiao Junche stood up and blocked his way.

Xu Mo asked, “Why not? My boss is in there, right? Perfect, we can talk price together and settle this whole thing.”

“Don’t tell me you still think she’s just some female fan even now?” Qiao Junche looked at him with utter disbelief.

And Xu Mo replied, “Well, what else would she be?”

Qiao Junche was speechless. Was this guy really blind, or did he genuinely think his boss was some kind of monk?
