Rong Qian had been sitting on the sofa for only a short while when Lin Jie, having finished his shower, came down from upstairs with a towel he’d used to dry his hair draped over his shoulders.
Rong Qian glanced up at him. He wasn’t wearing a shirt, and she quickly looked away.
Lin Jie, however, deliberately walked over and sat down across from her, staring at her the entire time with no expression on his face. That gloomy, dark look in his eyes made Rong Qian feel quite uncomfortable.
Rong Qian finally looked up at him, thinking that if Lin Feng ever looked at her with this kind of expression, she would have kicked him long ago.
“What are you looking at?” Rong Qian crossed her arms, putting on the posture and pride of an adult.
Lin Jie let out a disdainful snort.
That sneer of his made Rong Qian’s fists clench. Thinking of how obedient and sensible Shen Yi was at this same age, the comparison only made her dislike Lin Jie more, no matter how she looked at him!
“Who are you?” he asked, his tone arrogant and accusatory, as if he were above her.
Rong Qian deliberately refused to answer him. “Why would I tell you?”
“You don’t actually think that just because you’ve stayed here a few days, you’re my eldest brother’s woman, do you?” Lin Jie said with open contempt.
A vein throbbed at Rong Qian’s temple. She said through gritted teeth, “You say ‘eldest brother’ so smoothly—do you even remember who your real eldest brother is?”
Thinking of how he’d been using Shen Yi’s name to enjoy a life of luxury outside and act recklessly, Rong Qian wanted to slap him twice!
But for Lin Feng’s sake, since this boy was his younger brother, Rong Qian held herself back.
Lin Jie’s attitude was extremely arrogant. “From now on, Shen Yi is my elder brother—he said so himself. As for my real brother, he’s someone who died young. Why even bring him up?”
Rong Qian let out an angry laugh. Was it that Shen Yi was too soft-hearted, or had this kid simply disguised himself too well before?
With an attitude like this, even calling it “rebellious phase” wouldn’t be believable—someone like this, left out in society, would surely become a menace!
“Kid, you’re not even worth one of your brother Lin Feng’s fingers!”
Rong Qian didn’t want to waste any more words on someone like him. She gave him a cold look, left him with those words, and turned to walk away.
Lin Jie’s face turned livid. He clenched his fists, and in his anger, threw the towel at Rong Qian!
The towel hit her on the head, and Rong Qian’s steps came to a halt.
“Who do you think you are? Daring to offend me? A woman who sleeps around for favors—do you really think you can climb above me?”
Rong Qian’s back teeth clenched. At this point, she could basically draw her conclusion—those wealthy, spoiled brats had really taught him plenty of “good things”!
“When Shen Yi talked about you, I thought you were a promising kid.” Rong Qian, head lowered, spoke as she rolled up her sleeves. “Now it seems you’ve never truly experienced society’s—beating.”
As she said the word “beating,” Rong Qian’s eyes turned ruthless in an instant.
Then, accompanied by a loud “smack,” Rong Qian swung her hand and slapped him hard across the face, sending Lin Jie’s head reeling sideways.
“Go tell Shen Yi if you want to complain—that’s what people with no future do. But let me warn you—next time I see that face of yours acting like this, every time I see it, I’ll hit it!”
Having dropped those harsh words, Rong Qian walked off without looking back.
With her fiery temper, did he think a tiger that doesn’t show its might was a sick cat? Rong Qian was furious—even after teaching him a lesson with her hands, she still couldn’t swallow her anger.
So, familiar with the layout of the house, she walked straight to Shen Yi’s bedroom door. Just as Rong Qian was about to push it open, she found it locked, and knocked.
“Who is it?”
Rong Qian spoke up. “It’s me.”
After a moment, the door opened. Shen Yi, not yet changed out of his clothes, looked at her and smiled slightly, asking, “What’s wrong?”
“Take your clothes off for me.”
Still fuming, Rong Qian’s tone was sharp, even somewhat impatient.
Shen Yi couldn’t help shaking his head with a wry laugh and said, “It seems I still can’t hide it from you.”
Rong Qian wasn’t foolish. As a criminal police officer, if she couldn’t even see through Shen Yi’s little tricks, would she even deserve to call herself a police officer?
“Knowing you can’t hide it from me, why go through so much trouble to hide it anyway? Xu Mo didn’t come back with you—he went to pick up Dr. Qiao, didn’t he?” Rong Qian said irritably.
Shen Yi nodded obediently. “If I’d come back already bandaged, you would have smelled the medicine. So, I had no choice but to let him come over secretly.”
“Did you really think you could sneak medicine on in your room and I wouldn’t notice? Have you forgotten how many times a day I barge into your room by mistake?” After saying that, realizing this wasn’t exactly something to be proud of, Rong Qian quickly changed her tune. “Anyway, the point is, you shouldn’t have lied to me!”
“Good A’Qian, don’t be angry anymore. Come, sit.”
Shen Yi took her hand and led her into the room to sit down. Rong Qian, reluctant, acted like a sulking little girlfriend, and after being coaxed by Shen Yi, her attitude finally softened.
Rong Qian still wanted to see his injury, but Shen Yi said it would be better to wait until Xu Mo brought Qiao Junche over. Since he said so, Rong Qian didn’t push him.
Before long, Xu Mo arrived with Qiao Junche.
Xu Mo had still wanted to sneak in quietly, but the moment he stepped into the room, he found Rong Qian and Shen Yi sitting together.
“Miss… Miss Rong?” Xu Mo was caught off guard, but remembering what Shen Yi had told him, he quickly composed himself and said, pretending nothing was wrong, “Miss Rong, you’re talking with the boss. I’ll take Dr. Qiao downstairs to sit for a while first.”
As he spoke, Xu Mo started to push Qiao Junche, who had brought a medical kit, toward the door.
“Wait a moment.” Rong Qian’s voice called out, stopping them.
Xu Mo felt guilty but still forced a smile. “Miss Rong, is there something else?”
“Why did you bring Dr. Qiao here? Is someone injured here?” Rong Qian asked, feigning ignorance, just to see how he would talk his way out of it.
Xu Mo mumbled vaguely, quickly making up an excuse. “Oh, it’s just on the way! We happened to run into him on the road, and since he wasn’t busy, we invited him over—yes, that’s exactly what happened!”
“Alright, alright, just hurry up and treat him.” Rong Qian couldn’t bear to watch anymore and urged him on irritably.
“Huh?” Xu Mo was a little dazed.
Shen Yi said with a smile, “She already knows, no need to hide it anymore. Dr. Qiao, please, come over here. Sorry for the trouble.”
“No trouble at all.” Qiao Junche pushed past Xu Mo and walked over, the medical kit on his back.
Xu Mo’s face fell, and he said, sounding wronged, “Ugh, Miss Rong, you should have just said so earlier—you scared me half to death. The boss specifically told me not to let you find out, and in the end, I was the only one putting in effort to keep this a secret.”
“Were you really putting in effort to keep it secret? I thought you were deliberately hinting at it to me,” Rong Qian teased him without mercy.
And just like that, Xu Mo nearly burst into tears!
