Chapter 140: The Mortal Body

Ye Fan’s voice was not loud — but it caused every Star Peak disciple to change color. Chen Feng commanded tremendous respect among them, a Far Shore realm cultivator — who in ordinary times would dare speak to him like this?

“Sheer braggadocio — aren’t you afraid the wind will split your head? You want to break Senior Brother Chen’s legs — go train for another hundred years!”

The Star Peak disciples had been suppressed again and again, their hearts filled with mounting frustration. Ye Fan’s brief, blunt words had now drawn out their fury — they were desperate to see Ye Fan crushed and subdued.

“What kind of figure is Senior Brother Chen Feng? To kill him would be as easy as turning over a hand. In Senior Brother Chen’s eyes, he is nothing but a clay chicken and a tile dog!”

Chen Feng — clad in white from head to toe, clean as driven snow — carried himself without a trace of worldly dust or vulgarity. He appeared extremely otherworldly, as though he had walked out of some pure and untouched land beyond the mortal world. He truly had the bearing of an outstanding disciple from a great sect of the highest tier.

He was slightly cold, but more than that, he was composed and unhurried. A faint smile crossed his face. “Young and ignorant, his manner wild and unrestrained, knowing neither depth nor shallowness. I have already given you a chance — a pity you failed to grasp it. Very well then: I will personally shatter every bone in your body.”

Ye Fan kicked a boulder weighing several thousand jin into the air, sending it hurtling toward Chen Feng. “Does being superior make you unable to breathe?” He found the other party’s high-and-mighty posture utterly insufferable.

Chen Feng gave a light wave. His white robes billowed, and his sleeve swept through the air — that boulder of several thousand jin instantly turned to fine powder, drifting down in a cascading shower.

“Little brat, be careful.” Ji Ziyue transmitted her voice in secret, saying, “He is a Far Shore realm cultivator. To defeat him, you can only rely on that powerful physical body of yours — you must close the distance and get in close before you have any chance.”

To compete in divine power, to match his sorcery — Ye Fan’s odds were far too slim. Only in close-quarters combat, relying on a physical body that surpassed even sacred treasures, would there be any hope of dealing him a serious blow.

It was worth recalling that not long ago, against Ji Xia — a Far Shore realm cultivator from the Ji Family — Ye Fan had defeated her in precisely this way.

Ye Fan set his body in motion, swift and agile as the wind. Step by step he left afterimages behind, making eyes swim with dizziness, and closed the distance in an instant.

The young man in white retreated lightly and with ease. He was not Senior Brother Yang — he had been on guard against Ye Fan from the start, and had no intention of letting him draw too close. He intended to rely on his powerful divine arts to reduce Ye Fan to nothing.

However, he underestimated Ye Fan’s speed — and not only him. Even Ji Ziyue’s small mouth fell open, a look of shock crossing her face.

Because she was witnessing a powerful movement technique — something she had heard of, but never seen before.

“This is…” Ji Ziyue’s small mouth formed a perfect “O.” She wrinkled her nose and murmured to herself, “Can this be the footwork of that mad old man from the legends?”

As Ye Fan moved, he gave the impression of the Dao following nature — like flowing clouds and running water, completely natural, as untraceable as an antelope hanging by its horns on a cliff’s edge, leaving no trace to follow.

The young man in white was already fast enough — like a shooting star, his swiftness taken to the extreme, leaving one afterimage after another. But Ye Fan clung to him like a shadow, keeping pace no matter what!

He had to stick close to his opponent and fight at close range. Otherwise the situation would be extremely unfavorable — after all, there was a full major realm between them. Before this, he had been constantly moving toward the young man in white precisely to create that opportunity for himself.

Now, he was determined not to give up easily. His footwork flowed with Dao resonance, and he chased straight after him!

All around them, everyone was thoroughly astonished. Chen Feng — how powerful was he? A Far Shore realm cultivator moved like lightning — yet Ye Fan had caught up with him, unable to shake him off. This alone spoke to the extraordinary mystery of that movement technique.

“Do you truly think I fear you?” Chen Feng was caught and entangled by Ye Fan, and felt genuinely taken aback — his opponent’s movements were too fast, fast enough that he could not shake himself free.

Having cultivated to a realm such as his, one could say he could overturn the clouds with one hand and cover them with the other. His divine abilities were beyond imagination. In his eyes, starlight flowed in an endless current, with the illusion of infinite stars being born and extinguished within them.

“Hiss! Hiss!”

Within Chen Feng’s pupils, starlight flowed and moved. Two beams of brilliance shot out — sharper than blades of a sword, dazzling and magnificent — driving straight toward Ye Fan’s skull, intent on piercing clean through it.

If metal or stone had blocked their path, those beams would have shattered it apart — to say nothing of a human being of flesh and blood. Yet Ye Fan’s expression was perfectly placid. His left hand moved like a flash of light, and he lightly flicked his finger.

“Clang! Clang!”

Two sharp blasts rang out. The two razor-sharp beams of starlight shattered like crystal, breaking apart completely — then vanishing into nothing in mid-air.

“Hum!”

The void trembled faintly. Ye Fan’s golden fist drove forward — like the hammer of the God of Thunder shaking the world, the terrifying pressure it generated making everyone around them feel waves of suffocation.

Chen Feng’s white robes fluttered in the air, starlight blazing across his body. His eyes were unfathomably deep. Before him, a curtain of light rapidly interwove into being, cutting him off from Ye Fan.

“Bang!”

Yet Ye Fan’s golden fist was too domineering — its momentum fierce and its weight crushing, like an entire mountain range crashing down. The terrifying shockwaves that radiated outward made everyone in the vicinity stumble and lose their footing.

“Crack!”

The curtain of light shattered on the spot — unable to block it in the slightest. It dissolved into flowing streams of light, disappearing into the air.

“Boom!”

Ye Fan’s golden fist, as though a golden divine fire were raging and blazing within it, caused the very void to cave and collapse inward beneath its impact.

Chen Feng finally felt the full horror of Ye Fan’s physical body and could not help but change expression. His figure became dreamlike and phantasmal as he dodged continuously. A stream of brilliant light shot out from within his Bitter Sea.

It was a jade disc, which rapidly expanded until it was as vast as an expanse of sky — like a celestial dome. Embedded within it were strange and unusual pearls, shining like the sun, moon, and stars. It hung suspended overhead, covering and enveloping Ye Fan beneath it.

“Hiss! Hiss! Hiss!”

Ten thousand sword-lights, endless star clouds billowing and surging!

That jade disc was extraordinarily divine. In an instant it plunged the sky into absolute darkness — night fell in the blink of an eye. Every pearl blazed with starlight, transforming into a torrent of sword-beams that stabbed downward.

It was a perfect storm of blades — a black night sky, dazzling pearls, and a gleaming jade disc, all vibrating in unison, grinding down upon Ye Fan to tear him to shreds.

“Dong!”

Like a great bronze bell resonating — a deep, drawn-out bronze chime rang out and reverberated, making the ears of everyone nearby ring and buzz.

No one knew when it had appeared, but in Ye Fan’s hands was a massive bronze plaque, upon which four ancient characters were carved: Great Thunder Sound Temple. He swung it upward toward the sky, blocking every single sword-beam in that torrential rain.

The bronze plaque was like a mountain — immensely heavy. It vibrated in Ye Fan’s hands as he swung it upward and smashed it against the jade disc above!

“Crash!”

Like seven-colored glazed glass being smashed to pieces, fragments of jade rained down in pieces, strange pearls bounced and rolled in all directions — that sacred treasure had been driven and shattered straight apart.

The white-robed Chen Feng moved swift as the wind and thunder — yet he had been unable to pull away. Behind him, a powerful surge of energy was fluctuating, like a colossal furnace blazing with heat, scorching at his back — locking onto him completely.

“Do you truly think only you have a powerful physical body?” Chen Feng, forced into the chase by Ye Fan, suddenly felt a flicker of anger. A lofty Far Shore realm cultivator — when had he ever been so passive?

“Star River Twelve Swords!” He called out in a low, sharp cry. From his entire body, twelve beams of sword-light shot upward — as though reaching to the clouds above and plunging to the depths below, cutting between the heavens and the earth.

Twelve Star Rivers surged and roared, each transforming into an enormous sword — standing upright and slashing downward, driving straight for Ye Fan’s physical body.

The Star Peak cultivators tempered their bodies with the boundless radiance of starlight and placed the greatest importance on physical cultivation. As long as one reached the Divine Bridge realm, their physique would begin to undergo a fundamental transformation, becoming incomparably powerful and unyielding.

At the Far Shore realm, this went without saying. By drawing the divine light of star rivers into the body and accumulating it over years without pause, infinite starlight would gather within — which could be condensed into swords, capable of cutting through anything and everything.

“Clang! Clang! Clang!”

The sword-light shook and trembled. Twelve Star Rivers — formed from boundless starlight — stirred the winds of all eight directions!

“Bang!” “Bang!”…

Something astonishing occurred. Ye Fan put away the bronze plaque from the Great Thunder Sound Temple. He swung his golden fists and drove them outward one after another.

The void warped and twisted — like an unstable and collapsing space. Those two golden fists were the very source of that chaos, the terrifying force they sent shaking outward filling everyone with dread.

The rolling Star Rivers were beaten and scattered!

Yes — three Star Rivers in succession had been shattered by Ye Fan’s three strikes, their boundless starlight scattering in all directions.

“Bang!” “Bang!” “Bang!”…

Then nine more strikes in a row. Those golden fists found nothing that could stand before them — surpassing sacred treasures, the body itself became the most powerful weapon of all.

After nine blows, all twelve Star Rivers were utterly destroyed, dissolving into scattered points of flowing light that rapidly faded out in the air above.

Chen Feng’s body shuddered. He became even more wary of Ye Fan’s physical body. His Wheel Sea trembled, and he unleashed three powerful weapons in succession.

A cloud chain — forged and refined from jade marrow, crystalline and sparkling, bright as white jade, coiling through the sky in winding loops, without flaw or blemish, like a fragment of a sacred, holy cloud.

A star shield — engraved with constellations across its entire surface, like a sheer cliff face pressing down, or a piece of the very sky vault falling from above.

A moon blade — shaped like a crescent moon, overflowing with silver radiance. It came whirling and slicing in, cutting through everything, filled with a sky-piercing killing intent.

Behind them, the Star Peak disciples all drew sharp breaths of cold air. This was one of Chen Feng’s killing strikes — three terrifying weapons working in concert. Very few people had any way to withstand it.

The cloud chain swept across the sky in a locking pattern, seeking to seal Ye Fan alive with no avenue of escape!

The star shield and the moon blade descended like a star falling and a moon sinking, plummeting from the vault of heaven — as though a small world were being shattered, swallowing and submerging Ye Fan within.

This was a devastatingly powerful assault technique!

Ye Fan was finally halted — swallowed beneath endless starlight and moonlight, locked beneath the sacred cloud chain above.

Chen Feng, after all, was a Far Shore realm powerhouse. His strength was beyond question. Freed from the entanglement, he shot upward into the high sky.

Behind him, the Star Peak disciples all broke into smiles. Their faith in Chen Feng’s abilities was absolute.

“Even if his physical body is this strong — can it surpass a sacred treasure? Let’s see how he escapes this.”

“Didn’t we say all along — Senior Brother Chen Feng would crush him like breaking a clay chicken and a tile dog!”

“A mayfly trying to shake a great tree — he never knew his own limits. We knew long ago it would come to this end.”

Suddenly, a muffled sound rang out.

“Rumble! Rumble! Rumble!”

The star and moon radiance suddenly broke apart and scattered.

“Bang!”

Boundless starlight surged upward. Ye Fan drove his fist clean through the star shield, his black hair flying wild, his divine might pressing down with overwhelming force.

“Clang!”

Another fist shot out. The moon blade snapped in two. The moonlit radiance scattered and faded. The broken blade dimmed and went dark, tumbling to the ground.

“Crack!”

Ye Fan’s arms surged outward with force. The cloud chain shattered inch by inch. The sacred brilliance vanished. The holy cloud dispersed into nothing.

The Star Peak disciples stood with mouths agape. Li Xiaoman too wore an expression of utter disbelief. Three layers of powerful sacred treasures could not suppress him — instead, he had smashed them all to pieces. A physical body like this was simply beyond belief.

High in the sky, Chen Feng felt a stab of sharp pain in his heart. The three artifacts had been refined and tempered by him over many years, long since imbued with their own spirit — yet today, in a single moment, they had all been destroyed.

“This is literally a human-shaped wild beast from legend!”

“This can still be called a mortal body? This is practically a priceless sacred treasure in and of itself…”

All around them, people were drawing sharp breaths.

“All of this should come to an end now…” Chen Feng was cold as ice, standing high in the sky. His entire body blazed with points of starlight — like a white-robed Star Lord.
