Chapter 988: Slaying Gods

Ye Fan had traveled west, cutting his way forcefully into the Sacred City. The dormant divine clan had finally emerged — immediately stirring tremendous upheaval, clamor reverberating to the heavens as many people prayed.

In the sky, a powerful existence flowed with divine radiance, like liquid silver pouring out — pervasive and unstoppable, filling every inch of space.

“The West truly has formidable figures.” Ye Fan murmured, signaling his disciples to stand back to avoid being caught in the crossfire.

“Clang!”

A sound rang out like a great bell — purifying to the soul, lingering and far-reaching, carrying with extraordinary clarity into the distance.

A blaze of radiance surged forth. The ancient divine clan member had not moved directly, but a woman with four pairs of divine wings on her back and a divine ring behind her head appeared — beautiful nearly to the point of bewitchment — and launched her assault immediately.

“A divine messenger has appeared, enforcing divine law on behalf of God. The demon from the Central Plains will be purified and removed from this world.”

“This is a great angel — an envoy of this renown commanded great awe in ancient times. No one could have imagined seeing one in this era.”

Among the cultivators of all three religions watching, even those who were there merely as spectators were struck with astonishment, then deep reverence. Legend had it that a single great angel could sweep through an entire region.

Ye Fan watched her charge toward him with no trace of fear. The young woman riding the unicorn he had encountered upon entering the city had been possessed by her — now her true form had finally appeared.

“So the so-called divine messenger is actually an ancient clan member.” He murmured softly. In an instant he understood much. In ancient times, those from beyond the domain had descended upon the world for the sake of the Ninety-Nine Dragon Mountains. These were most likely one of the clans from that time.

“In the name of God, I strike — to burn your filthy soul and bring you to repentance.” The great angel called out sharply. Her entire body shimmered, four pairs of divine wings beating to create ripple after ripple, transforming into Dao-marks.

“God? To you, I am God. You are speaking in my name? I have slain no fewer than seven or eight hundred primordial beings in the Northern Dipper — do you think I fear you?” Ye Fan spoke coldly.

“To show no reverence before God — I grant you destruction!” The beautiful great angel struck. Her divine ring blazing around her, all four pairs of divine wings beat simultaneously — the heavens shattered and the earth split. This expanse of sky crumbled apart, and a flood of slaughter-laws erupted, transforming into heavenly swords sweeping down toward Ye Fan.

Divine power like an ocean, vast and torrential. Many in Jerusalem trembled, unable to stop themselves from falling to their knees. In this era, such a powerful existence was as rare as the feathers of a phoenix or the horns of a unicorn.

“Divine power — this is invincible divine power! No one can defy the will of God!” People cried out in awe. Many made the sign of the cross over their chests.

“Truly not weak — but it depends on who you compare it to. If you want to kill me, go train for another three thousand years first.” Ye Fan pressed two fingers together and executed the Sword Technique, unleashing a vast golden wave of sword energy like a boundless ocean.

“Puff!”

Every Dao-mark the great angel’s divine wings had produced shattered. The golden sword-sea surged to close range, and a blazing arc of sword light flashed — cleanly bisecting her at the waist, blood raining down, dyeing the sky crimson.

“What — the divine messenger’s body has been cut in two. How can this demon be so powerful?”

Jerusalem’s crowd went cold from head to foot. They had just been cheering, and now their bones rattled with dread, every hair standing on end.

In the sky, blood cascaded upward. The bisected great angel let out a long cry. The two halves of her body rejoined, a flash of divine light passing over her — restored to wholeness.

“This is the power of God — indestructible through a thousand calamities, imperishable through a hundred lives.” Jubilant voices rose. People were enraptured, their hearts and minds completely drawn in.

But the great angel herself had gone ashen. Inwardly, she was terrified, knowing she had a serious problem on her hands. The person before her was unfathomable — she was not his match.

“Crack!”

She opened her mouth and exhaled an ancient scroll, which transformed into a painting of mountains and rivers and enveloped it over Ye Fan. This was a forbidden artifact — once something was drawn inside, it would be dissolved entirely. An ancient relic of immense power.

“And what does this amount to? A minor trick at best. I gave you a lesson just now, and you still refuse to yield. Then let me send you to meet your ancestors!”

Ye Fan murmured softly, moving both hands. The Soldier Technique activated, and the ancient scroll shot back accelerating and rapidly shrank to an inch in length, landing in his palm. He then shook his wrist and tossed it to his disciples — another ancient treasure of great power, instantly changing hands.

“Puff!”

At the same moment, Ye Fan drew his hand across the air — a bloodline crack split open from between the great angel’s brows, spreading downward. Her body split with a crash into two halves, and she died.

“He has slain a god — he killed the divine messenger with his bare hands!”

“The demon’s bone killed the servant of God — why would this happen… this is a monstrous crime!”

An uproar erupted. Aside from the old cultivators, whose eyes shimmered with quiet understanding and said nothing, the younger cultivators could not accept this outcome — as though the sky had fallen and the world had gone dark.

“Are you the so-called divine clan?” Ye Fan flew to the high heavens and faced off against the being radiating divine brilliance. This was undoubtedly an ancient royal clan member — though he had not achieved ancestral kinghood.

He had a vertical eye at his brow, golden hair flowing loose, and wore a suit of metallic battle armor that shifted with dreamlike luminescence — a suit of armor left behind by an ancient king.

A king who had severed the Dao!

Having returned to Earth for some time, Ye Fan had finally found a worthy opponent. This was one who had severed the Dao — a living, breathing existence — and one who possessed extraordinary bloodline.

“I am merely the weakest among all of the divine clan. Human, do you wish to defy the gods?”

This person appeared young — no older than his mid-twenties in appearance — yet his eyes were ancient and weathered, clearly having lived for a very long time, his age to be measured in thousands of years.

“Such words might frighten others, but they hold no meaning for me. I returned from beyond the domain. I have killed many ancient clan members. You still wish to stand above me and play god?” Ye Fan said coldly.

“Then you are determined to stand against the divine — and there is no one left in this world who can save you.” The divine clan powerhouse declared.

Ye Fan scoffed: “If I am not mistaken, the truly powerful of the so-called divine clan all departed long ago in ancient times. Only you remain — and you pose no threat to me whatsoever!”

“You will never comprehend the divine domain, you insignificant ant. Will you not kneel and repent your sins!” The divine clan powerhouse roared.

The vertical eye in his brow erupted with ripple after ripple, spreading rapidly outward — a powerful spiritual pressure that could shake a person’s mind into submission.

Ye Fan immediately let out a sharp shout, like a bolt of lightning slashing across the sky, instantly silencing the sound. On the ground, many who had already begun to kneel looked up in confusion, not understanding what had happened.

“You think to use such minor bewitching arts against me? I have even killed descendants of your Ancient Emperors — what does severing the Dao matter to me?!”

Ye Fan advanced, taking the initiative. Against such a powerful figure he could not afford to be careless. This was an ancient clan member who had severed the Dao before the earth fully ran dry — they would most certainly have extraordinary means.

“The glory of God — blasphemers die!”

The divine clan powerhouse spoke sharply, spitting a blinding beam of light from his mouth that transformed into a divine rainbow inscribed with various runes, rushing toward Ye Fan.

This was the so-called spoken law — where every word was a law, every action a rule. What the divine mouth spoke became law, capable of killing without visible means. If one were not careful, one would fall into its trap.

Ye Fan swept his hand across it with a ringing clang. The divine rainbow shattered like crystalline glass and exploded into a storm of energy — and the real battle between the two began.

Spanning Rainbow, Crossing the Sun!

The vertical eye of the divine clan powerhouse blazed with brilliant sharpness, shooting beams of light several li long, accompanied by the thundering of the Celestial Dao — this was the clan’s innate divine art, resonating with the Dao.

Ye Fan’s left hand formed the Mountain-Embracing Seal, manifesting a black mountain mass that shattered the beam on the spot — dazzling brilliance reduced to darkness in a single instant.

“Boom!”

The divine clan powerhouse surged forward. Sacred light boiled from his entire body — he was burning, erupting in blinding radiance that illuminated every inch above and below, filling every corner of space with holy power.

A cold smile curled at the corner of Ye Fan’s mouth. The so-called god had finally thrown a punch — could no longer remain aloft and untouchable. He transformed into a blazing golden streak and charged to meet the attack, hands forming the True Dragon Seal — causing the high heavens to resound and collapse.

The two stood hundreds of zhang apart, and immense force clashed between them. That collision was a confrontation of vast, overwhelming divine power. Ye Fan’s physical body cut through the storm zone at extreme speed, and the True Dragon Seal materialized — becoming a colossal azure dragon soaring upward.

“Puff!”

The divine clan powerhouse coughed up a great mouthful of blood, his body jolting as though struck by lightning, sent flying horizontally for over a thousand zhang. His blood was silver-white in color, radiating sacred brilliance.

Below, every cultivator fell silent. In the very first exchange, the god had taken a small setback — blood splashed across the heavens. This was not a good omen.

The demon from the Central Plains — the ancient warning was becoming a nightmare in reality. He could contend with gods. Who in this generation could match him? Who could subdue him?

“To have such cultivation without even severing the Dao…” the divine clan powerhouse murmured. He knew he had run into serious trouble. One misstep, and he would die with regrets.

Ye Fan said: “Have you finally stopped pretending to be a god? Hand over the ancestral artifacts, and you may continue to play god. Otherwise, today your blood will stain the Sacred City.”

The divine clan powerhouse steadied his mind, produced an ancient talisman, and suspended it above his head. With a soft chant of an incantation, a colossal form merged with his — towering and immovable, like an ancient god of war!

“Human, prostrate yourself at my feet, offer your sincere reverence and awe, and I will pardon your sins.” A vast, thunderous roar shook the heaven and earth.

This was a giant — formed entirely through the power of that ancient talisman, filling him with overwhelming, domineering authority that made Jerusalem itself shake. Crack after crack split open in the high heavens above.

The ancient talisman was remarkable — as if sculpting an entire body from nothingness. On closer inspection, it was woven from laws and Dao-marks, like a body of light.

The divine clan member resided within the giant’s skull, as though donning a colossal suit of armor — his physical power magnified to an extreme.

This was the clan’s secret treasure. Once the ancient talisman was brought forth, its wielder could temporarily possess the body-strength of an ancient ancestor, wielding it as their own, sweeping away all opposition.

“This is the body of the ancient War God!” Many old figures were thunderstruck. Some ancient clans even had shrines dedicated to this body. No one had ever expected that, in this day and age, they would witness it with their own eyes — the divine clan had manifested it, its might shaking the heavens.

This divine clan member drove the ancient talisman, taking up residence in this powerful battle form, cleaving through the void. Like Pangu separating heaven from earth, primordial chaos energy surged and churned as a single stride covered the distance — to cut down Ye Fan in an instant.

“Boom!”

The War God body brought its palm crashing down, pulverizing the void, burying Ye Fan in a chaos of energy — its might unparalleled in the world.

Yet when everything stilled, Ye Fan stood at a distance, entirely unharmed and unhit. He said coldly: “This is not a true ancestral body — merely light woven from Dao-marks. It amounts to nothing.”

Having spoken, he took the initiative and charged. The two battled, colliding again and again in brilliant flashes of light that illuminated the divine city.

Ye Fan’s left hand used the Mountain-Embracing Seal in a continuous exchange. His right hand suddenly executed the Human King Seal, sending the body flying for thousands of zhang.

People were awestruck. The difference in their sizes was enormous, yet Ye Fan could send the War God form flying — his terrifying power made it incomprehensible.

“This ancient talisman is quite the treasure. It was most likely personally refined by a half-Saint.” Ye Fan murmured.

In this moment, he went all out and struck viciously, battling this king who had severed the Dao in an unbroken exchange. The True Dragon Seal was unleashed, leaving a terrible imprint on the giant body — nearly punching straight through.

“Boom!”

Then the Human King Seal struck directly, shattering the War God body apart. The ancient talisman hovering above the divine clan member’s head cracked, giving out with a crisp sound before shattering to powder.

“So this is all a god amounts to!”

Ye Fan stepped forward with the Engraved Word Technique, his right hand transforming into the Heaven-Turning Seal — like a great golden disc sweeping downward, every inch of it dense with talisman markings, terrifying beyond measure.

“Puff!”

The god was shattered — exploding in the sky into a rain of blood that cascaded down over the Sacred City of Jerusalem. A horrifying sight!

“The god… has been killed!” People stared in terror, faces drained of all color, completely stupefied.
