Chapter 656: Kill Her — Silence Her Permanently
Since she had already accepted the payment, Feng Jiu felt it was only right to stay and accompany the Old Manor Lord for an entire morning — consider it a consultation visit.
Most importantly, the way the Old Manor Lord looked at her — that desperate longing to be close, yet so careful, so fearful of being rejected — had stirred in her heart an inexplicable pang of sadness.
The old man simply missed his daughter far too much. Now, seeing her, he felt she was his very own daughter.
And yet, precisely because he missed her so deeply, so desperately yearned to see her, now that he had truly seen her, he was afraid — afraid that his daughter would not like him, that she would no longer want him.
As for what ailment the Old Manor Lord actually suffered from, the truth was that the entire morning had seemed rather normal. Only occasionally did his mannerisms resemble those of a child.
Aside from those occasional moments, for most of the time, he was simply a doting father obsessed with his daughter.
What Feng Jiu had not expected, however, was that inside the room belonging to that Long’er — she had found a portrait that bore a striking resemblance to herself.
The face was Feng Jiu’er’s face, and the figure was Jiu’er’s figure. No wonder when Manor Lord Long had first laid eyes on her, staring at her silhouette, he had been utterly captivated — certain he had found the right person. Yet when he looked at her face, he had been somewhat uncertain.
In the end, even though the face did not match, he still regarded her as his own daughter.
The Old Manor Lord had been clinging to even the tiniest scrap of hope in the depths of despair — and even a sliver of it, he refused to let go.
So it turned out his former daughter had looked like her. That, in itself, was a kind of destined connection.
At noon, after accompanying the Old Manor Lord through lunch, coaxing him to take his medicine and drift off to sleep, Feng Jiu finally followed Long Yan out of the courtyard.
Walking out of the Camellia Courtyard, she turned back to look at the tall wall completely blanketed in green vines. Suddenly, an intense wave of reluctance surged through Feng Jiu’s heart.
It was as though she was deeply afraid that after leaving this place, she might never see the Old Manor Lord again.
“Sir, there are some things I hope you will agree to.” Long Yan’s expression had been grave from the moment they stepped out.
Now that he spoke, it was with the resolve of someone who had pushed past their own hesitation — as if these words simply had to be said.
“Manager Long, please speak freely.” Most likely, it would be something along the lines of: the Old Manor Lord’s condition must not be disclosed to outsiders.
But what Feng Jiu found slightly unexpected was that it was not merely a matter of keeping the Old Manor Lord’s illness secret.
Long Yan said in a low, solemn voice: “What the Sir has witnessed today — these are matters the manor will absolutely never allow to spread beyond these walls. Were it anyone else… perhaps… I would have already acted… to silence them permanently.”
Silence them permanently!
Was he earnestly spouting nonsense? Long Yan had not a trace of hostility toward her — let alone anything resembling killing intent. And yet, not a single word he said left any room for doubt.
Anyone else would have been silenced permanently!
“Therefore, I hope that once the Sir leaves, you will forget everything that happened here — whether it concerns the Old Manor Lord’s condition, or the portraits you saw, or those wooden figures… in short, please forget all of it. If word were to leak out, not only would the Number One Manor Under Heaven invite the disaster of total annihilation, but the Sir’s own Tianji Hall would most likely face utter destruction as well.”
He was not threatening her, nor did he wish for Feng Jiu to perceive it as a threat. That was why, as he spoke, he made every effort to keep his tone as measured and calm as possible — hoping as well that Feng Jiu would not feel too resistant or distressed.
“If this is all so secret, then why allow me inside in the first place?” Feng Jiu was genuinely baffled. There was not an ounce of pretense in the question — she truly could not figure it out.
Long Yan scratched the back of his head, a somewhat sheepish look on his face: “I… I’m not sure why either. I only felt that… allowing you inside… would not be entirely wrong.”
Yet he had not truly registered that someone who had gone inside might very realistically end up being silenced.
The portrait, the wooden figures, and the name “Long’er” that the Old Manor Lord had cried aloud — was there a single detail among these that was not a secret?
At the time, it was as if his mind had gone blank — and he had actually let Feng Jiu go inside.
“This matter must never come to the Manor Lord’s knowledge. Otherwise…”
“Otherwise, I will personally kill him and silence him for good!” The hoarse voice sounded as though it still came from a distance — and yet in the span of a single heartbeat, it was already right before her.
Feng Jiu felt a wave of chillingly sharp energy coil around her neck, as though intent on snapping it in an instant!
This was the power of the newcomer’s inner force! His body had not yet arrived, and yet his internal energy had already surged straight toward her throat!
Feng Jiu’s breath scattered in disarray. She immediately shifted her footing and retreated sharply two steps, barely managing to break free from the entanglement of his inner force.
With an ability of this caliber, had this been Feng Jiu’er from half a year ago, she would certainly have been unable to dodge it.
But now, half a year had passed. The Feng Jiu of today possessed a cultivation far beyond what Feng Jiu’er had been capable of.
The opponent seemed not to have expected that she was a formidable martial artist. After his first strike missed, he reversed his palm and drove it once more toward her throat!
“Manor Lord, the Sir means no harm! Manor Lord, the fault lies entirely with me — I acted on my own initiative and brought the Sir inside. Manor Lord, if punishment is to be dealt, please punish me!”
Long Yan flung himself forward. Not daring to exchange blows with the newcomer directly, he could only use his own body as a shield and place himself between Feng Jiu and the attacker.
The opponent’s cultivation was truly fearsome. As Feng Jiu dodged again and again, with Long Yan stepping in to help each time, Long Yan’s neck had already been raked open and was bleeding!
So Langyue Xiansheng truly did want her life!
Only now did Feng Jiu realize that everything she had witnessed today was indeed a matter of grave secret for the Number One Manor Under Heaven. No wonder Long Yan had said it was the kind of secret that could bring annihilation down upon the manor.
When Long Yan had said it earlier, Feng Jiu had not taken it to heart. Now, she understood it with bone-deep clarity.
Could it really all be because of those wooden figures, those portraits, and that name — Long’er?
Who was this Long’er? How could one woman be capable of stirring up such enormous trouble?
“Manor Lord, I have no intention of giving offence. As for what I saw today — I know nothing of it. I merely accompanied an elderly gentleman through a meal. That is all.”
Feng Jiu had no mood to ponder unnecessary things right now. Langyue Xiansheng’s martial arts were truly formidable. If she did not explain herself soon, whether she would live through this was an open question!
And yet Langyue Xiansheng was unwilling to listen to a single word — his sole intent was to take Feng Jiu’s life.
In the end, even Long Yan could no longer hold back and struck out, raising his hand to meet one of his blows directly!
In that strike, Long Yan had used only half his strength — afraid of accidentally injuring the Sir. Although the Sir’s martial arts surpassed his own, the Sir had not been on guard against him at all, so a misunderstanding was not impossible.
“Manor Lord, please listen to me! This truly has nothing to do with Miss Feng Jiu!” Long Yan called out urgently.
“For the sake of this outsider, you dare raise your hand against me?” Langyue Xiansheng was furious. His eyes fixed on Feng Jiu’s face, and the five fingers of his hand clenched tight — the knuckles cracking audibly.
It seemed he was truly enraged!
Feng Jiu’s heart sank. She had not anticipated provoking such a deadly force. She immediately sought to flee — but the moment she turned, it was as if something behind her had seized hold of her, making even a single forward step enormously difficult!
“Manor Lord…” Long Yan stared in horror, his eyes widening to their limit. The Manor Lord’s finishing technique! The Manor Lord had truly made up his mind — he was going to kill Feng Jiu!
“Manor Lord! We cannot slaughter the innocent! Manor Lord! Miss Feng Jiu only came here to provide medical consultation! She is innocent!”
Since she had already accepted the payment, Feng Jiu felt it was only right to stay and accompany the Old Manor Lord for an entire morning — consider it a consultation visit.
