Chapter 487: All Night Long

“What, he went out?” Mu Yunjin sat up on the bed, frowning. She had been in this room for so long, yet hadn’t heard any movement outside…

As she was thinking, little Mu’er’s crying came from outside the door. Mu Yunjin quickly put on her shoes, got off the bed, and walked briskly to the door.

After opening the door, Mengrui bowed slightly to Mu Yunjin and handed little Mu’er to her.

Mu Yunjin took little Mu’er and glanced at Mengrui. “Everything’s fine here. You can go about your business.”

Mengrui nodded and withdrew from Liquan Pavilion.

Mu Yunjin didn’t immediately go back inside. She stood at the doorway for a moment and looked across at the room diagonally opposite.

Indeed, the room diagonally opposite was completely dark, without a trace of lamplight.

“Where did he go so late?” Mu Yunjin muttered, but with little Mu’er crying so intensely, she couldn’t be bothered to wonder where Chu Li had gone.

After closing the door and returning to the room, Mu Yunjin carried little Mu’er back and forth, trying to comfort him. But the child who usually stopped crying with just a bit of coaxing wouldn’t stop crying today, no matter what.

Mu Yunjin frowned, placed little Mu’er on the bed, and reached out to feel his forehead. There were no signs of fever.

She then unfastened little Mu’er’s clothes and examined him carefully, fearing that he might have developed a rash due to the hot weather, making him uncomfortable enough to cry.

But after a thorough inspection, there was nothing unusual about his body.

“Wuwah wuwah…” Little Mu’er continued crying sorrowfully.

“Oh dear, what’s wrong? Are you hungry?” Mu Yunjin stared at little Mu’er.

Little Mu’er shook his little head.

Mu Yunjin suddenly felt helpless. This was her first time as a parent, and she still lacked experience in childcare.

After some thought, Mu Yunjin walked to the door, opened it, and called outside, “Someone, go to the palace and request an Imperial Physician to come to the mansion.”

Soon, three Imperial Physicians came from the palace, including the head of the Imperial Medical Bureau.

After entering the Prince’s mansion and hearing that the young master of Prince Ning’s family was unwell, they all hurriedly ran into Mu Yunjin’s room, afraid of delaying a serious matter.

“Come quickly and see,” Mu Yunjin urged. Earlier, little Mu’er’s crying hadn’t stopped, and his little face was flushed red while his small body restlessly tossed and turned.

Imperial Physician Yang, the head of the Imperial Medical Bureau, stepped forward. He first felt little Mu’er’s small hand, and finding the chubby hand somewhat cold, he gently took hold of little Mu’er’s chin.

Then he glanced sideways at Mu Yunjin. “Please forgive this subject’s discourtesy.”

With these words, Imperial Physician Yang applied slight pressure to hold little Mu’er’s mouth in place, examining his tongue coating, and then pulled down his lower eyelid.

Little Mu’er, probably feeling uncomfortable, cried even harder.

After looking for a while, Imperial Physician Yang’s hand moved to little Mu’er’s abdomen and pressed down a bit.

“Wuwah wuwah…” At this pressure, little Mu’er cried even more intensely, with both his small legs kicking up involuntarily.

Imperial Physician Yang wiped the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve, grateful that Prince Ning was not present at this moment…

“How is he? Can you tell what’s wrong?” Mu Yunjin asked anxiously after Imperial Physician Yang finished the examination, her heart tightening as she nervously clasped her hands together.

Imperial Physician Yang nodded and looked at Mu Yunjin. “Has the young master had a good appetite these past two days since returning?”

Mu Yunjin didn’t answer. Nanny Shen, standing at the door, hastily replied, “The young master’s appetite hasn’t been good these two days. He hasn’t eaten much at each meal.”

Hearing this, Imperial Physician Yang nodded in understanding. “It’s likely due to an inappropriate diet, causing some intestinal inflammation, which has led to abdominal pain and discomfort, making him cry like this.”

“Such a small child, when encountering physical discomfort, cannot express it in words and can only cry continuously.”

“Fortunately, this isn’t a major problem. This subject will first prepare a medicine for the young master. After the young master takes it, the abdominal pain should gradually ease.”

Having said that, Imperial Physician Yang immediately left carrying his medicine box, with Nanny Shen following closely.

Mu Yunjin was now heartbroken. With downcast eyes, she held little Mu’er’s hand. “Baby, be good. After you take the medicine, you’ll feel better. Don’t cry anymore, okay?”

Little Mu’er couldn’t respond to Mu Yunjin at all.

Mu Yunjin pressed her lips together and glanced to the side, where Mengrui was also in the room. “Where did His Highness go? Quickly send someone to find him and bring him back.”

Mengrui’s face showed hesitation. “His Highness didn’t say where he was going when he left, and Guard Ding is also not in the mansion. This servant doesn’t know where to find him.”

“I understand,” Mu Yunjin said slowly, then, thinking of something, her eyes darkened. “The young master is only a few months old. He shouldn’t eat anything else except milk every day. Is it possible that someone fed him something inappropriate, causing this abdominal pain and inflammation?”

Hearing this, Mengrui was frightened and immediately knelt down. “This servant doesn’t know…”

“Get up first,” Mu Yunjin sighed.

After speaking, a sense of frustration welled up in her heart. It seemed that even in these peaceful times, when it came to caring for little Mu’er, she still needed to be personally involved.

Shortly after, Imperial Physician Yang brought in the prepared medicine. He intended to hand it to Nanny Shen to feed, but Mu Yunjin took the bowl first.

“Princess, this medicine is quite bitter, and the young master may not be able to drink it. But it’s best to find a way to make him drink it; otherwise, we’ll have to perform acupuncture on the young master’s abdomen…” Imperial Physician Yang advised.

Upon hearing the word “acupuncture,” Mu Yunjin’s hand trembled slightly, and she frowned deeply. How could she bear to let such a small child be pricked with needles?

“Nanny, help me hold the child,” Mu Yunjin said to Nanny Shen.

Nanny Shen quickly came forward and picked up little Mu’er. “Young master, be good. Let’s take the medicine first, and then we can go to sleep early, alright?”

Mu Yunjin scooped up a small spoonful of medicine, blew on it, and slowly brought it to little Mu’er’s mouth, feeding it to him.

Little Mu’er opened his mouth, crying, and the bitter medicine entered his mouth. It was unclear whether he had swallowed it.

Mu Yunjin fed him spoonful by spoonful, her anxiety growing. Until this abdominal pain subsided, her heart would not be at ease.

After a long time, Mu Yunjin finally finished feeding the small bowl of medicine.

Fortunately, little Mu’er had been quite cooperative and didn’t spit out the medicine.

After feeding the medicine, Mu Yunjin took little Mu’er in her arms and comforted him in a low voice.

The Imperial Physicians beside them didn’t dare to be careless. Before the medicine took effect, none of them dared to leave the room.

Finally, little Mu’er’s crying gradually stopped. Perhaps exhausted from crying, he yawned widely. His eyelids lifted and fell a few times before he slowly fell asleep.

Seeing this, everyone in the room breathed a sigh of relief.

“Thank you all for coming so late tonight,” Mu Yunjin said gratefully, glancing at the Imperial Physicians, then giving Nanny Shen a meaningful look.

Nanny Shen understood immediately, taking out several banknotes and handing them to the Imperial Physicians. “Thank you for your hard work. This is a small token of appreciation from our Princess.”

The Imperial Physicians, including Yang, didn’t refuse and accepted the banknotes. Glancing at the amounts, they silently remarked that the Prince Ning’s household was indeed generous, which showed how much they valued the young master.

“This subject thanks Princess Ning,” Imperial Physician Yang bowed slightly to Mu Yunjin. “We shall take our leave now and return tomorrow morning to check on the young master.”

Mu Yunjin nodded.

Having received Mu Yunjin’s approval, they left the room.

Nanny Shen had originally intended to stay in the room to help Mu Yunjin look after little Mu’er, but Mu Yunjin, seeing her advanced age, insisted that she go back to rest.

Once again, only Mu Yunjin remained in the room.

Leaning against the edge of the bed, Mu Yunjin lowered her gaze to look at little Mu’er in her arms and sighed gently. “Little one, you scared your mother just now.”

Little Mu’er slept soundly.

After a while, Mu Yunjin tried several times to lay little Mu’er flat on the bed to sleep, but the uncomfortable little Mu’er was very clingy, tightly gripping Mu Yunjin’s hand, whimpering and threatening to cry again.

“Don’t cry, don’t cry…” Mu Yunjin gently patted little Mu’er, comforting him to sleep.

Mu Yunjin continued this comforting throughout the entire night, maintaining the posture of holding the child while sitting against the headboard.

And throughout this night, there was not a sound from the room diagonally opposite.

Chu Li had not returned all night.

In the morning, Nanny Shen brought Imperial Physician Yang to Liquan Pavilion to check on little Mu’er again.

Nanny Shen saw Mu Yunjin holding the child, sitting against the headboard, and instinctively glanced at the neatly arranged blanket on the bed. She exclaimed softly—this looked like someone who hadn’t slept all night!

“Princess, come, let me hold him for you. You should go freshen up first,” Nanny Shen reached out to take the child from Mu Yunjin.

Mu Yunjin didn’t refuse this time. After handing little Mu’er to Nanny Shen, she was about to stand up when she moved her body and felt a tearing pain in her waist.

Her waist injury…

“Princess, what’s wrong?” Nanny Shen noticed something unusual about Mu Yunjin and asked in surprise.

“It’s nothing. I’ve been sitting too long and my body is a bit stiff,” Mu Yunjin said, supporting herself with the nearby table as she stood up. Looking around, she walked slowly out of the room and headed toward the room diagonally opposite.

Since Chu Li hadn’t returned, she might as well use the hot spring pool first.

As Mu Yunjin entered the hot spring pool, two figures hurriedly returned to the main gate of the mansion.

“Your Highness is indeed impressive. Taking personal action, those things have already reached outside Diehua City, even faster than this subordinate expected by several days,” Ding Xian remarked to Chu Li as they walked.

Chu Li’s lips curved slightly, seeming to be in a good mood. “This Prince couldn’t wait any longer. A few more days, and the roof of this mansion might have been torn off.”

“Hey, where is everyone in the mansion? Where’s Nanny Shen?” Ding Xian asked a small maid standing nearby as they entered, and didn’t see Nanny Shen.

The little maid quickly replied, “The young master was unwell last night. Several Imperial Physicians were called to the mansion for treatment. At the moment, Nanny Shen is taking Imperial Physician Yang for a follow-up visit in the back garden.”

Hearing this, Chu Li’s figure flashed as he swiftly left the front hall, hurrying toward Liquan Pavilion.

Entering Liquan Pavilion and seeing that the door to the room Mu Yunjin had stayed in last night was open, Chu Li strode in, his face ashen. “How is the young master?”

Imperial Physician Yang had just finished examining little Mu’er. Seeing that little Mu’er was awake, he had just played with him a bit when he heard this deep, displeased voice, which startled him, making his hand tremble.

“Greetings to Prince Ning.”

After saying this, he quickly answered Chu Li’s previous question. “The young master is already out of danger. However, he will need to take some medicine for the next few days.”
