Synopsis
I have seen you before—in a corridor where snow fell heavily in my dreams. I have seen you while clutching your collection of poetry, hidden among the dim and ambiguous pages of history. I know your name, but I do not know you.
Your name appears on the very first page of The Biographies of Treacherous Ministers. I had no interest in knowing anything about you.
Not until I traveled back a thousand years.
I am the daughter of a civil official, married to you as a chongxi bride in the hope that the wedding would bring you good fortune. You are the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Justice, left between life and death after an assassination attempt—dressed in a crimson official robe as red as blood, proud, aloof, and cold.
I see you again atop a lofty tower battered by wind and rain.
I see you again before a gravestone beneath a darkened sky.
I see you again in the dreamlike visions of our past and present lives.
Only then do I realize that we were bound by a marriage destined across lifetimes. Yet ours was a broken, melancholy fate—one that was never meant to have a happy ending.
You carry me through the quiet spring night, where the fragrance of flowers drifts beneath the corridor eaves. You hold my hand as you write poems that will be passed down through the ages.
—At night, I carve bamboo into blades;
I am forged of metal and stone, and my heart shall never yield.
How could you possibly be such a genuinely good man?
