Chapter 49: You Gods

Er’er’s thoughts had always been simple: as long as the great lord started doing good deeds, as long as he continued to maintain a kind heart, he would gradually be accepted by everyone and avoid falling into the demonic path.

But.

When she returned to the Upper Bing Palace and saw the isolating barrier floating with the Gen Immortal Sect’s mark, she felt as if she had been struck with a heavy club.

This kind of barrier was only used when one intended to kill.

Even though Li Ye had stayed properly in the Upper Bing Palace, even though he had just saved Qian Tian, these people had no intention of letting him go.

Suddenly, she felt incredibly stupid.

“Listen to me first,” Zhen Huan Gong stood beside her, somewhat flustered. “I had already notified them to come help earlier. After leaving Upper Bing Palace, not knowing the state of Qian Tian’s soul fragment, I assumed he wasn’t going to save it.”

Er’er turned her head, her eyes slightly tinged with blood-red: “What if he didn’t save it?”

Of course, not saving would warrant punishment.

—These words were about to come out when Zhen Huan Gong caught her gaze and instinctively swallowed them back. After a moment of shock, he frowned and vaguely said, “You’ve truly spent too much time with him; you can’t tell right from wrong anymore.”

“Everyone wants to live. What right and wrong is there to distinguish?” Withdrawing her gaze, Er’er walked toward the barrier, her voice somewhat hoarse.

“You are a Supreme God, and he is a Supreme God. Why is it right when you kill, but wrong when he kills?”

Eyes slightly widened, Zhen Huan Gong grew somewhat angry: “A small immortal like you, how could you know…”

“I do know.”

Slender fingers spread one by one, slowly pressing against the rippling barrier. Er’er interrupted him, eyes downcast as she said, “You’re the one who doesn’t know.”

As the last word fell, spiritual energy burst from her fingertips. The earth element’s spiritual energy spread and wandered smoothly on Gen Qi’s barrier, reflecting a faint glow on her face.

In the next moment, the wandering spiritual energy suddenly solidified, meandering and penetrating the barrier like tree roots in soil.

Crack—

Gen Qi’s barrier shattered, and the surging killing intent and spiritual energy within erupted, raising a gust of wild wind that blew Er’er back several steps. Almost falling to the ground, she barely managed to stabilize herself.

As the mist dispersed, the scene within the barrier finally appeared before her eyes.

Li Ye was half-kneeling at the entrance of the Upper Bing Palace, both hands hanging at his sides at bizarre angles. His crown had come loose, scattered hair falling to cover half his face. His long red robe trailed on the ground, like flames, or like blood.

Her heart tightened. Without thinking, Er’er immediately rushed toward him. Not paying attention when climbing the stairs, her toe caught on a step, and she tumbled forward, almost crawling as she threw herself before him, spreading her arms like a hen protecting her chicks.

“You,” she glared at Gen Qi opposite her, then swept her gaze over the several Supreme Gods standing behind him, trembling with anger. “You go too far!”

Li Ye was stunned, his misty eyes widening slightly.

He turned his head, as if wanting to see her, but before he could get a clear look, she had already excitedly blocked his view.

Her small body stood at the front of the Upper Bing Palace, furiously roaring at the Supreme Gods opposite.

“Didn’t you say to follow heavenly laws? Didn’t you say indiscriminate killing is a sin punishable by heavenly retribution? What are you doing now, bullying him because he’s alone here?”

“You’re not the only ones who can file complaints. I’ll also go to the Heavenly Diviner. You’re bullying him, and I’m a witness!”

Her shouts were loud, but her voice trailed with sobs, as if she couldn’t bear the heartache, stamping her feet while cursing.

The blood color that had been about to spread to his pupils suddenly receded a bit.

Li Ye pressed his lips together, pinching the blood on his robe somewhat helplessly.

“You… how did you get in?” Gen Qi came to his senses, first shocked by this fact. “My barrier, that was the Gen Sect’s barrier.”

Er’er couldn’t be bothered to answer his question. She only reached back, fumbling to grasp Li Ye’s hand, holding it tightly, then shielding him completely, her eyes still glaring at them.

Several Supreme Gods couldn’t help but whisper among themselves. Gen Qi, both angry and helpless, clutched his Eight Treasures Gourd and pointed abruptly at the person behind her: “That is a calamity.”

“You’re the calamity, your entire sect is a calamity!” Er’er immediately flew into a rage. “He saved Qian Tian, and you repay kindness with enmity while his spiritual energy is depleted. You are the calamities!”

Qian Tian was saved? Gen Qi was stunned.

Zhen Huan Gong, with a complex expression, rode his cloud over and whispered a few words in his ear.

Gen Qi: “…”

“Why didn’t you say so earlier?” he frowned.

Zhen Huan Gong spread his hands: “Who knows what he was thinking? I originally thought it impossible that he would save him.”

Cursing under his breath, Gen Qi tucked the Eight Treasures Gourd back at his waist and grumbled, “Then the rest of the matters will be discussed another day.”

“Stop right there!” Seeing they were about to leave, Er’er angrily formed hand seals. A water screen immediately blocked their path. “Invading my Li Sect, injuring my Supreme God, if you think you can just leave, is there still any law in the Nine Heavens?”

A vein throbbed at his temple as Gen Qi turned around in anger: “You think he’s the type to suffer losses?!”

Looking at him doubtfully for a moment, Er’er turned to look behind her.

Li Ye knelt quietly, his aura fragile yet peaceful. Noticing her gaze, he let out a soft snort and moved his hanging hand slightly.

Looking down, Er’er’s expression changed.

The great lord’s fingers had a gash where several meridians had been forcibly pulled out and fixed to the floor tiles at the entrance of the Upper Bing Palace.

In an ordinary battle, it would be impossible to pull out meridians.

“You even play dirty!” Er’er’s eyes reddened.

She thought, how could the great lord possibly lose to these people? So it was because he had fallen into a trap.

All of them were leaders of the Nine Heavens’ Ten Sects. How could these people be so shameless!

With grief and indignation filling her heart, Er’er felt her blood rapidly rising, rushing until her mind went blank.

Something went “pop” as if it had been opened.

Gen Qi was about to destroy the surrounding water screen when he unexpectedly found that this water was like a waterfall, becoming more and more violent, with killing intent growing heavier along with it. When he threw out a stream of spiritual energy, it was cut into pieces and immediately rebounded.

“Not good!” He dodged sideways, raising his head in astonishment.

How could this small immortal from the Li Sect also know water element spells?

The Gen Sect was not afraid of the Kan Sect’s immortal techniques, but her spell came too fiercely and rapidly. If he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, Gen Qi would have almost thought it was Kan Ze casting the spell.

He had just fought with Li Ye and was already weakened. Being surrounded by such immortal techniques again, he was truly alarmed.

“What’s happening?” Dui Ren looked around. “Isn’t this Kan Ze’s aura? Has he returned?”

“No, quickly get out of the way!”

Several Supreme Gods swiftly avoided their positions, but the surrounding water falls grew faster and more fierce, rushing left and right, eventually trapping them within the barrier.

Er’er’s eyes were bloodshot as she grasped Li Ye’s hand and straightened her back. Within a yard around her, the water waves did not encroach. No matter how fierce the howling water waves outside were, like flames, she only stood rigidly.

Before her was an endless expanse of white. Inside her body was surging spiritual energy that did not belong to her. In the boundless chaos, someone seemed to be chuckling softly.

“This will kill you, you know.”

Kan Ze’s voice was distant and ethereal, emanating faintly from the rolling spiritual energy, like a sigh of regret.
