Chapter 50: Something Very Important

Die?

Looking at the chaotic whiteness, Er’er thought with half-closed eyes.

That was truly a frightening thing; she didn’t like it.

But she couldn’t control the spiritual energy charging wildly through her body. It was as if she had become merely a vessel. Kan Ze’s powerful spiritual energy washed through her limbs and meridians, carrying her anger and impulse, raising endless waves, desperately wanting to tear something apart to be appeased.

The white light was overexposed, so bright that it hurt one’s eyes.

Breathing somewhat rapidly, Er’er uncomfortably shifted her body. The spiritual energy around her instantly surged by three measures. From a distance came several curses and low growls. She couldn’t hear clearly, only slowly raising her hand, wanting to release more spiritual energy.

However.

Someone embraced her from behind.

Scorching spiritual energy touched the white light on her body, making sizzling sounds. Mist rolled and rose like clouds between mountains. A slender hand penetrated through the hazy illusion and gently fell on top of her head.

“Enough.”

A deep voice, like a chime bell entering the sea, enveloped all her uneasy emotions.

Her pupils slightly contracted, her eyelashes trembling along with them. Er’er stared blankly at the emptiness before her. She wanted to struggle, but there was a strange force around her, tidying up the chaotic spiritual energy in her body bit by bit, organizing it methodically and placing it back into her body.

Slowly, she saw the scene before her.

Inside the barrier was already a mess. The sea waves in front of her receded, and broken magical artifacts and stone pillar lamp stands lay scattered on the ground. Gen Qi and others stood in the distant barrier, looking extremely fatigued.

Slightly startled, Er’er came back to her senses.

One of Li Ye’s hands still hung down to the ground, while the other embraced her. The red sleeve of his robe was pulled back to his elbow, revealing a section of solid wrist where blue veins were faintly visible. The wide hem of his red robe draped to the ground, like a fire gathering her in the very center.

She blinked and turned her head, wanting to look at him, but could only see the curve of his jawline.

Noticing she had calmed down, Li Ye pressed his lips together, points of light in his eyes. He wanted to speak but felt that with his current emotions, his tone would not be cool at all. So he restrained himself, only reaching out to touch the loose strands of hair on her forehead.

It was a bit ticklish.

Shrinking her neck, Er’er remained silent for a long while before finally asking belatedly, “What happened to me just now?”

“Your spiritual energy went out of control.” Li Ye lowered his eyes. “Do you remember long ago when I attempted to destroy Kan Ze’s elemental core hidden within your body?”

At the mention of that incident, the person in his arms instinctively frowned, seeming to still hold a grudge.

His heart tightened, and his arm drew closer, holding her more tightly.

“I didn’t strike a fatal blow. I gave him a chance.”

Kan Ze hated him, just as he hated Kan Ze. Kan Ze preferred to destroy his elemental core rather than be manipulated by him.

However, Kan Ze did consider Er’er. At the moment of self-destruction, he left his lifetime of cultivation in the acupoints around her body. If she had slowly drawn it out for cultivation, she would have been able to break through her limitations and achieve great mastery.

Unfortunately, she lost control today, and tens of thousands of years of spiritual energy surged out, nearly killing herself.

“Why were you so anxious?” he asked very slowly, his gaze falling on her face, unblinking. “I was the one injured, not you.”

Er’er hadn’t yet figured out what was happening with Kan Ze. Hearing these words, her face darkened again: “They were bullying you.”

Glancing at Gen Qi and the others, Li Ye’s eyes contained pleasure: “Hmm, what does that have to do with you?”

“I…” She opened her mouth and then froze, turning her head to glare at him. “You and I were master and disciple once. Is it strange that I stand up for you? Even Kan Yuan knew to avenge his master.”

“Kan Yuan admired Kan Ze.” he raised an eyebrow. “Are you the same as him?”

Wow.

Er’er excitedly raised her eyebrows. Was this considered gossip about the Supreme Gods? Kan Yuan looked so fierce; was it because he liked Kan Ze? But they were master and disciple. Were all the immortals in the Nine Heavens so unorthodox?

So exciting!

Completely ignoring the latter question, Er’er was excited for a while, until she remembered that both of them were gone, and then sighed wistfully.

“We won’t follow in their footsteps,” she clenched her fist, pronouncing this sentence like a pledge.

Li Ye snorted with laughter: “That’s certain. No one can kill me.”

“No, that’s not it,” Er’er shook her head. “At least they were master and disciple. I was expelled from your tutelage long ago.”

Li Ye: “…”

What did it mean to lift a stone only to drop it on one’s foot? What did it mean that revenge wasn’t absent, but the time had not yet come? He turned his head away somewhat embarrassedly, stiffly silent.

Over there, Gen Qi’s face was turning green.

After such a bloody scene had just ended, how could these two people begin chatting as if no one else was present? Was this the Immortal Banquet Platform? Or some pavilion for leisure after meals? So many Supreme Gods had drawn their magical artifacts against them; how could they have the nerve to chat about these messy matters?

Waving his hand to lower the barrier, he took a deep breath—

Not that he wanted to rush in and seek death, but to gather the gods, taking advantage of Li Ye’s distraction, to leave quickly.

With a bang, cloud mist rose, instantly carrying away their physical bodies and divine souls from within the barrier.

“Hey!” Er’er noticed and, with her eyebrows standing on end, rose to chase after them.

Li Ye held her back.

“Why are you more anxious than I am?” he asked amusingly. “Having just ascended to Upper Immortal, do you want to single-handedly challenge five Supreme Gods?”

Er’er put her hands on her waist, her cheeks puffed up in anger: “We need to save face! At least chase after them shouting ‘Coming and going as you please, do you think my Upper Bing Palace is some cheap place?’ That way, the situation wouldn’t be so awkward.”

Looking at her as if she were an idiot, Li Ye raised his hand and pointed to the side.

What’s that? Er’er looked over in confusion.

The broken barrier fell bit by bit all around. Light from outside shone in, and the broken divine soul silhouettes floating inside also became clearer bit by bit.

Severed arms and legs flew about like kites. Some were still intact, some had shattered like porcelain pieces. Although they were only soul bodies and not very clear, they did not belong to Li Ye.

Her mouth slowly formed an O shape as Er’er withdrew the step she was about to take.

She finally understood what Gen Qi meant by “Li Ye won’t suffer losses.” She had been too hasty and angry when she arrived, only noticing the great lord’s unusual state without discovering the situation around her.

“You were… a bit heavy-handed, huh?” She laughed dryly, withdrawing her fingers to gather those remnant souls into a point of light in her palm. “But we can’t blame you. They were the ones who came looking for trouble.”

Li Ye nodded righteously, without the slightest trace of shame on his face.

“The plates,” he said. “I had just washed them, and they smashed them.”

Plates? Er’er pondered in confusion for a moment, turning her gaze to the sink before finally noticing the fragments scattered on the ground.

Was that the point? Not. How much were plates worth?

She turned back, intending to say a few more words to him, at least to make him understand when it was right to take action and when it was inappropriate.

But before she could speak, she first realized an issue.

The way the plates had shattered was exactly like the divine soul fragments from earlier…

The same!
