When the doctor said they couldn’t treat it, did that mean Huan Huan couldn’t be saved?
Liu Fang’s vision darkened, her body losing all strength as she pulled Liang Bing’an down to kneel with her.
The doctor frowned at the two dramatic parents. They reeked, with Liu Fang’s hair still covered in rotting vegetable leaves. The doctor stepped back, holding his breath: “Both of you, quickly take her away!”
“Huan Huan!”
Liang Bing’an struggled several times but couldn’t get up.
How heartless of the hospital – they had just lost their daughter!
The doctor left with his scissors, and Liu Fang cried while beating the floor. Her precious daughter is not even 17 years old! Liang Bing’an, being a man, had more fortitude and forced himself to stand and walk toward the emergency room. Liu Fang also realized she hadn’t seen Liang Huan one last time. They both rushed into the emergency room, only to find nurses cleaning up, with Liang Huan lying on the bed, eyes half-closed, seemingly still breathing.
“Doctor, my daughter is still alive, please continue the emergency treatment! I have money, I’ll pay any amount!”
Liang Bing’an was emotional, but the nurse looked at him like he was an absolute idiot.
“Got too much money to spend, coming to mess with the hospital? Which unit are you from? I should report this to your workplace!”
The nurse angrily pulled back the blanket. Liang Huan’s clothes had been cut open from the collar to the collarbone. The area had been cleaned with sterilized gauze – but there wasn’t a single wound.
Liang Bing’an thought his eyes were playing tricks on him. Xia Xiaolan had stabbed Liang Huan, and the blood had been flowing steadily, soaking Liang Huan’s upper clothes.
The nurse threw over a plastic bag, still covered in blood:
“Hiding a blood bag filled with chicken blood in her clothes and piercing it with a knife – very amusing, isn’t it?”
The nurse was particularly angry.
With a doctor’s parental heart, they rushed to clean Liang Huan up, but after cutting open her clothes, they couldn’t find any wound – only a blood-stained plastic bag. The bag had a small hole, and all the blood on Liang Huan had flowed from it.
Both the doctor and nurse were upset.
The knife hadn’t even touched flesh, yet she was acting extremely weak – who was that show for? They’d worried for nothing. The doctor wasn’t lying when he said he couldn’t treat this – he wasn’t a psychiatrist, and mental problems weren’t his department.
Liu Fang was still stunned:
“No injury?”
If there was no injury, why was her Huan Huan like this?
Liu Fang felt Liang Huan’s neck – indeed, no wound. The nurse couldn’t be bothered with the family anymore and left carrying a tray.
Liang Bing’an had figured it out – Xia Xiaolan had played their whole family! Even Liang Huan didn’t know it was just a blood bag being pierced. She had been too frightened, and her parents too worried to check her wound. On the way to the hospital, Liu Fang had held Liang Huan in the back seat, pressing the “wound” with her hand, yet hadn’t discovered the plastic bag.
Even before meeting Xia Xiaolan, they had been dancing to her tune!
First getting doused with sewage, and before they could confront Xia Xiaolan, they had to beg and plead because their daughter was in her hands.
Xia Xiaolan must have been delighted then, making their family of three dance like puppets! Liang Bing’an couldn’t believe this was done by a rural girl with only a middle school education, while he was a state official – it was utterly humiliating. Though no one had physically slapped his face, his cheeks burned with shame.
Anger, shame, and various emotions mixed leaving Liang Bing’an speechless.
Liu Fang had practically searched every inch of Liang Huan’s body – truly no wound. Liang Huan, eyes half-open, called out “Mom,” her grieved tears unstoppable.
She had thought she was going to die.
Who knew when the doctor cut open her clothes, they’d say there was no wound?
When they pulled out the blood bag, the nurse asked Liang Huan if she hadn’t felt any pain.
Liang Huan was too embarrassed to lift her head.
She had been so terrified then, truly believing the knife had pierced her flesh.
Today was the most difficult day in Liang Huan’s life – embarrassment, anger, grievance, and shame. All these emotions made her want to hide away.
No, she had to make her parents seek revenge.
“Mom, she locked me in a dark room, didn’t give me food, wouldn’t let me use the bathroom. Why did you take so long to save me…”
Liang Huan had called for help with no response from heaven or earth. During the day, few people were home upstairs, and by the time the workers living upstairs returned home, Liang Huan’s voice was hoarse and she couldn’t cry out anymore. The old building had few windows and good soundproofing – Liang Huan had truly suffered today.
Liu Fang trembled with anger.
Was that her niece? She was nothing but a female hooligan!
How could she treat her cousin like this?
Liu Fang thought about how her good intentions had been treated like trash. In all of Liang Huan’s life, they’d never raised a finger against her, yet today she had been “tortured” by Xia Xiaolan for a whole day. Liu Fang hugged Liang Huan, comforting her: “Mom will make her pay! Old Liang, say something! Are we just letting this go?”
Bring people to arrest Xia Xiaolan, lock her in jail, and see if she still dares to play such tricks.
Liang Bing’an remained silent.
What methods could he use against Xia Xiaolan?
He wasn’t Fan Zhenchuan – he didn’t have the power to have the final say in Hedong County.
If he had the Hedong County police come to make the arrest, Fan Zhenchuan would know immediately. Right now, Liang Bing’an didn’t want Fan Zhenchuan and Xia Xiaolan to have any contact. Xia Xiaolan had staged this whole scene to tell him that if she was forced to marry Fan Zhenchuan, she would make the Liang family’s life a living hell!
Marry off a Xia Xiaolan who hated the Liang family? Liang Bing’an would never do that.
But how to oppose it now?
That damned girl should just run away and never come back.
Liang Bing’an was grinding his teeth in hatred.
The face he’d lost today couldn’t be recovered, and he didn’t care about recovering it anymore. Someone like Xia Xiaolan was truly terrifying – heaven had not only given her good looks but also brains. And those two qualities weren’t enough – she also had determination. Look how arrogant she was, as if she could burn a hole in the sky!
“Let’s take Liang Huan home first. You need to clean up too. We’ll discuss this matter when we get back to Hedong County.”
Though Liang Huan wasn’t injured, they had used the hospital’s equipment, gauze, and disinfectant, so they had to pay before leaving.
Their family had lost tremendous face today – everyone at the hospital’s payment counter knew. When Liang Bing’an went to pay, he remembered his briefcase was still at Xia Xiaolan’s house.
It had a whole ten thousand yuan in it!
In the end, Liang Huan paid the bill with money she had on her, given to her separately by Liu Fang and Liang Bing’an. Liang Huan had spent some at “Blue Phoenix” but still had over a hundred yuan left. At this point, they couldn’t be bothered to question why Liang Huan had so much money on her. The family paid and left the hospital under strange looks.
Liang Bing’an had initially thought about getting back that ten thousand yuan, but after consideration, changed his mind.
Money wasn’t the most important thing now – what mattered was what he should do if Xia Xiaolan married into the Fan family.
If she didn’t marry into the Fan family, that would also cause Liang Bing’an trouble. Liu Fang had been the matchmaker, and if Xia Xiaolan disappeared, where would Fan Zhenchuan’s face be? When they couldn’t find Xia Xiaolan, the Fan family would take their anger out on the Liang family.
Liang Bing’an was caught between a rock and a hard place. He slammed the steering wheel hard – if she didn’t marry Fan Zhenchuan, who could Xia Xiaolan marry?
