After a while, Mu Yunjin drowsily fell asleep.
Once she was asleep, Chu Li sealed her sleep acupoint, rose from the bed, walked to the door, and summoned Qingmeng.
Qingmeng entered the room, approached Mu Yunjin’s bed, and pricked her finger with a silver needle to collect some blood.
After some time, Qingmeng looked at Chu Li and sighed, “Your Highness, there is indeed something unusual about the Princess’s blood, but I’m not skilled with poison insects and cannot determine if this indicates she’s been infected with gu poison.”
“Perhaps we should consult Elder Murong?” Qingmeng suggested tentatively.
As she finished speaking, Qingmeng handed the porcelain vial containing Mu Yunjin’s blood to Chu Li…
Chu Li’s expression remained impassive as he reached out to take the vial.
The next day.
Mu Yunjin made an excuse to visit the library at Phoenix Feather Pavilion alone.
…
…
The library was much larger than she had imagined—three entire rooms filled with various books. Trying to find records about the Underworld God Si Qing here was like searching for a needle in the ocean.
Moreover, there was no guarantee such records even existed here.
Realizing this, Mu Yunjin sighed. Looking around, she noticed the books weren’t categorized—different types were all mixed. She would have to search through them one by one.
She pulled out a book and quickly flipped through it…
After examining more than a dozen books without finding any mention of Si Qing, Mu Yunjin glanced at the books filling the three rooms and felt overwhelmed.
But her curiosity about Si Qing was too strong to ignore. She needed to discover something to satisfy her mind.
For the next few hours, Mu Yunjin patiently pulled out books one by one. She flipped through them quickly, but after a whole morning, her neck ached from the strain.
Eventually, Mu Yunjin randomly pulled a thinner book from the shelf. Taking a deep breath, she thought to herself that she would step outside for some fresh air after finishing this one.
Opening to the first page, the very first line immediately caught her attention—
“Legend has it that Fu Huan, the master of this pavilion, was also a High God.”
Seeing the characters for “Fu Huan,” Mu Yunjin’s eyes brightened. She checked the title page: “Register of Guardian Gods.”
Mu Yunjin raised an eyebrow. Could this be the book she was looking for?
With that thought, she sat cross-legged on the floor, cradling the book, and began reading carefully.
“Ranking of the Gods in the Heavenly Realm…” Mu Yunjin murmured, flipping through several pages that introduced various heavenly gods.
Since it was introducing the gods, the Underworld God should be among them, but after flipping through so many pages, she still hadn’t seen the characters for “Underworld God Si Qing.”
After a long while, Mu Yunjin turned to the last page…
At that moment, footsteps approached from outside.
Mu Yunjin’s attention was completely focused on the final page of the “Register of Guardian Gods,” so she failed to notice someone quietly walking toward her.
“Huh…” Mu Yunjin exclaimed in surprise, looking at the content of the last page, then flipping back to the previous one. Why didn’t the content match up?
The previous page was still discussing the Eleven Gods of the Heavenly Realm, having only introduced six of them, but the next page had suddenly switched to the Ten Kings of Hell…
Something seemed to be missing in between.
“What are you reading?” a light voice sounded above her head.
Hearing the voice, Mu Yunjin was startled. After taking several deep breaths, she turned around and looked up at Chu Li, who had appeared behind her without warning.
“I just came to find some books to read,” Mu Yunjin said with a slight smile.
“Hmm, have you chosen one? Are you tired?” Chu Li crouched down, moving closer to her, narrowing his eyes as his gaze swept over the characters “Ten Kings of Hell” on the book.
Mu Yunjin nodded slightly. As she closed the “Register of Guardian Gods,” she suddenly noticed some ragged paper edges protruding from the binding, clearly showing that pages had been torn out.
Could those torn pages be the ones recording information about Si Qing?
Mu Yunjin felt like she was going crazy!
Why was it so difficult to learn about Si Qing and Fu Huan?
Chu Li glanced sideways at her frustrated expression, wondering what she had been rummaging for all morning. “Let’s go outside if you’ve chosen your book.”
“Mm.” Mu Yunjin closed the Register of Guardian Gods and put it back in its place.
Chu Li stood up and bent down to help her to her feet.
As they walked out of the library, Mu Yunjin’s mind still dwelled on the missing page.
It seemed as though fate was deliberately preventing her from learning about Si Qing.
At the lunch table.
“Yunjin, I’ll be going away for a few days,” Chu Li ladled a bowl of soup and placed it before Mu Yunjin.
Mu Yunjin paused slightly, frowning, “Why are you leaving again? Is there something important to attend to?”
Chu Li nodded and, seemingly concerned about worrying her, revealed a faint smile, “Just wait here for my return. Before I come back, don’t wander around.”
Mu Yunjin clenched her fingers, recalling how Chu Li had asked about Yun Lianqing’s three secret medicines yesterday. Now, seeing the smile on his face, she still couldn’t feel at ease.
But to reassure Chu Li, she nodded and agreed, forcing a smile. “Then I’ll wait for your return.”
Chu Li chuckled softly and reached out to gently rub her cheek.
After lunch, Chu Li left Phoenix Feather Pavilion with Ding Xian and Song Chun, leaving Huang Yan behind to look after Mu Yunjin.
“Miss, where is Prince Ning going now?” Qiqi walked up to Mu Yunjin, looking at the closed main gate of Phoenix Feather Pavilion.
Nearby, Huang Yan’s eyes flickered as he approached and looked at Qiqi. “His Highness is going to meet Master Huaiyuan and arrange for the remaining servants from the Prince Ning Mansion.”
“I see. Speaking of which, I miss that girl Zi,” Mu Yunjin said, relieved to know Chu Li’s destination.
Hearing this, Huang Yan raised an eyebrow. “Hehe, someone misses her even more than you do.”
“Who?” Mu Yunjin raised her eyebrows as well, pondering for a moment before tentatively asking, “Song Chun?”
“I didn’t say anything…” Huang Yan waved his hand dismissively.
Seeing that Huang Yan was never serious, Qiqi linked arms with Mu Yunjin. “Miss, let’s ignore him.”
“Mm.” Mu Yunjin pursed her lips and walked away.
Huang Yan stood in place, sighing softly.
Mu Yunjin sat on the grass, hand propping up her head, unconsciously thinking again about the “Register of Guardian Gods.” Her curiosity rekindled, she glanced around.
“Where did Granny Yu go?” Not seeing Granny Yu, Mu Yunjin looked at Qiqi.
“Granny’s in her room,” Qiqi answered.
Mu Yunjin immediately stood up. “I’ll go chat with Granny for a while.”
“Would you like me to accompany you?” Qiqi asked.
“No need, just wait for me here.” Mu Yunjin replied, then headed toward Granny Yu’s residence.
……
When Mu Yunjin arrived at Granny Yu’s room, the door opened automatically before she even got close.
Mu Yunjin walked in slowly. Upon entering, she saw Granny Yu lying on the bed, her face somewhat pale, and the room filled with the scent of herbal medicine.
“Granny, are you feeling unwell?” Mu Yunjin approached, concern in her eyes.
“Just a bit of a cold, nothing serious,” Granny Yu said hoarsely, smiling at Mu Yunjin. “Little mistress, please sit down.”
Mu Yunjin nodded and moved a chair next to the bed.
“I heard you went to the library this morning. Did you find anything useful?” Granny Yu smiled at Mu Yunjin, her aged voice sounding even more weathered.
“I saw a book called ‘Register of Guardian Gods,’ but the content seems to be missing some pages,” Mu Yunjin answered honestly.
Upon hearing this, Granny Yu coughed once. “Is that so? It seems that fate has ordained that you should remember these things on your own.”
“Remember on my own? Granny, do you mean to say I’m also missing a part of my memory?” Mu Yunjin was surprised.
As far as she could remember, she had lived in the modern world, with clear memories from childhood to adulthood. After transmigrating to this world, she hadn’t lost any memories either.
Was Granny Yu referring to her soul, or the original owner of this body?
Mu Yunjin felt dizzy trying to figure it out.
“Strictly speaking, it’s not missing memories, but rather the most precious experiences you once had,” Granny Yu smiled.
“Precious experiences…” Mu Yunjin murmured, recalling fragments of her previous dreams and the visions she’d seen beneath the thousand-year-old tree.
After a pause, Mu Yunjin bit her lip and asked, “Granny, is there any connection between the Underworld God Si Qing and Chu Li?”
She had interacted with Granny Yu several times, and since their first meeting when Granny had called her Fu Huan, she had quietly realized that Granny Yu must know something about Fu Huan and Si Qing.
But for some reason, she always avoided mentioning it.
“The time is not right; nothing can be said for certain,” Granny Yu said hoarsely, then coughed several times.
“Granny, couldn’t you give me a hint? I’m dying of curiosity…” Mu Yunjin wheedled with a coquettish tone.
Granny Yu smiled. “Silly girl, such matters cannot be explained by others. You must experience them yourself.”
“Don’t be impatient. What is meant to come will surely arrive.”
……
Leaving Granny Yu’s room, Mu Yunjin felt even more confused.
When she returned to the foot of the mountain, Qiqi immediately rushed over. “Miss, something terrible has happened!”
“What’s wrong?” Mu Yunjin felt a strange sense of panic hearing those words.
“Our Phoenix Feather Pavilion—the small stream above us—it’s surrounded by black-clothed men!” Qiqi exclaimed loudly.
Mu Yunjin frowned. “Black-clothed men?”
Qiqi nodded.
At the mention of black-clothed men, Mu Yunjin vaguely recalled those who had pursued her at the River Moon City Governor’s Mansion, as well as those who had appeared the night the Prince Ning Mansion was burned.
These black-clothed men seemed endless, like persistent ghosts!
“Ignore them. They can’t get in anyway, so let them be. Mu Yunjin couldn’t be bothered with them.
Qiqi pouted. “But these people suddenly appearing here must mean they’ve discovered our hidden location. Who knows what trouble they might cause.”
“Miss, why don’t we send some people out to kill them?” Qiqi suggested.
“You silly cat girl, don’t give such bad ideas. Those people are gathered by the stream, perhaps they just want to bathe? If you go out there, you’ll expose yourself!” Huang Yan approached and interjected.
