Chapter 318: The Fire Moth Party 50

“There’s someone else connected to the Western Regions besides the Fire Moth Party,” Zhu Yan raised her head to look at Pan Chi. “Do you know who?”

“Who?” Pan Chi asked.

But Zhu Yan didn’t answer, just staring at him intently.

Pan Chi looked back at her in confusion, his face the picture of innocence.

“Tsk, are you stupid? It’s you,” Zhu Yan finally said.

Pan Chi finally understood what her look meant and couldn’t help but smile bitterly. “Don’t be like that. I don’t know much about the Western Regions either.”

Zhu Yan raised an eyebrow at him. Pan Chi truly was blessed with natural beauty – his skin remained flawless despite all his travels.

“Didn’t you say you’ve been traveling everywhere? I remember you mentioning you’ve been to the Western Regions.”

As she finished speaking, she looked up at Pan Chi. His mouth twitched slightly but quickly returned to normal.

Her words weren’t wrong, but…

“I’ve been there, but I only passed through, staying for a few days at most. I can’t say I know the place.”

This wasn’t a lie either, but Zhu Yan finally saw a glimmer of hope.

Pan Chi finally understood from Zhu Yan’s hopeful gaze. “You want me to go to the Western Regions?”

Zhu Yan smiled, the gloom of the past few days seeming to lift a little.

Pan Chi was captivated by her smile. Despite his many reservations, the thought of making the woman before him happy made him sigh deeply. “Alright then, I’ll go.”

Zhu Yan’s smile widened, her face, which had been creased with worry just moments ago, now bloomed like a flower.

“Thank you!”

Pan Chi frowned. “Next time, can you not say ‘thank you’?”

Zhu Yan nodded, gathering up the papers and leaving the study with Pan Chi following behind.

Looking at Zhu Yan’s back, Pan Chi felt a mix of emotions.

“What if I don’t succeed?” he asked.

The person in front didn’t turn around, her voice drifting back faintly:

“You will. I’m sure you can do it.” And Shen Du certainly can too, she thought.

Pan Chi couldn’t help but smile bitterly.

Having made the decision, Pan Chi didn’t waste any time. That very night, he disguised himself and left the city.

It was a dark and windy night. Although the Fire Moth Party’s defenses were strict, with Jing Lin’s help in providing cover, Pan Chi easily shook them off and headed west.

In the Fire Moth Party’s camp, Mo Qianzhi saw a familiar figure in the darkness.

This figure was very familiar, but shouldn’t have been there.

His feet seemed to move of their own accord towards that direction. Suddenly, the person turned around, their face pale and their eyes lifeless.

“Master!”

Who else could it be but his mentor, Shen Shijie?

Mo Qianzhi was so frightened he stumbled back several steps, his forehead already covered in a thin layer of sweat.

“Where is Shen Du?” The figure stared at him with bloodshot eyes, unblinking.

He couldn’t answer. He could hardly tell him that Shen Du was near death, could he?

Suddenly, the figure closed the distance between them.

At such close range, Mo Qianzhi could see the bloodshot eyes filled with accusation. The figure reached out with both hands as if to strangle him. Those hands were devoid of human warmth, suddenly transforming into a blue-faced, fanged demon lunging at him.

“Give me back my son.”

“Ah!”

Mo Qianzhi sat up abruptly, awakening from the nightmare.

The autumn night was cool, and he had only a thin quilt over him. His forehead was damp with sweat, matting his hair. He clutched at his collar tightly, his mind continuously replaying that pale face and those lifeless eyes.

After calming down, he lay back down, trying to go back to sleep.

But he tossed and turned, seeing Shen Shijie’s back every time he closed his eyes.

Unable to sleep, he lit a candle and sat up.

Shen Du was poisoned, and his mentor appeared in his dream. Could it be that Shen Du’s condition had become critical?

Mo Qianzhi was wide awake now. He got out of bed, blew out the candle, and left his tent. Outside, lanterns lit up the night, and people were on patrol.

Hiding his face in his collar, Mo Qianzhi headed towards Chen Huoe’s tent.

To his surprise, there was still light coming from Chen Huoe’s tent. Mo Qianzhi was about to knock when he heard voices from inside – more than one person.

It was a woman’s voice, which made his scalp tingle. There were no women in their camp. How did a woman get into Chen Huoe’s tent so late at night?

He could faintly hear the woman begging, pleading with Chen Huoe to let her go.

But Chen Huoe firmly refused, his words vicious and his tone cold: “How could that be possible? We’ve come so far, it can’t end like this.”

The other person argued back a few more times but was shut down each time, even threatened with death.

Although he had joined the Fire Moth Party and even proposed a cruel plan to massacre the city, Mo Qianzhi considered himself different from Chen Huoe.

His plan to massacre the city was to eliminate the dregs of society, but Chen Huoe was abducting women. It wasn’t the same.

Mo Qianzhi swiftly lifted the tent flap, ready to step in and stop this.

But to his surprise, Lai Luofu, disguised as Chen Huoe, was standing at the entrance, her face calm and her eyes dark as she looked at him.

The two stared at each other for a moment before Lai Luofu finally spoke: “What brings you to see me so late?” Her voice was still that of a man.

Mo Qianzhi didn’t respond, looking past her to survey the inside of the tent.

But there was no second person in the tent. Looking back at Lai Luofu, Mo Qianzhi suspected she might have hidden the woman.

However, the items in the tent were neatly arranged, and Lai Luofu’s clothes were tidy. If there was an abducted woman, it wouldn’t be like this.

Without justification for his actions, Mo Qianzhi felt his head throbbing with pain.

“Commander Chen, I advise you not to engage in any improper behavior,” he said after some thought, trying to persuade her. “We are here to create a better world, not to oppress the people and act like thugs.”

Lai Luofu was very confused. She looked up at the starless, moonless sky and mocked him: “Lord Mo comes here in the middle of the night just to say this?”

Of course not.

Mo Qianzhi had already prepared an excuse: “My men brought news that Shen Du is critically ill and beyond help. So his subordinates are planning to ambush Commander Chen to get the antidote and save their leader. I was worried, so I came to check.”

Hearing this, Lai Luofu laughed coldly: “Isn’t that just a fool’s dream? There is no antidote for this poison. But since you mentioned it, we should be prepared. This time, we’ll make sure they don’t return alive.”

Mo Qianzhi was slightly stunned: “There’s really no antidote?”

Lai Luofu looked down at him. The night was dark, with no stars or moon, so she couldn’t see Mo Qianzhi’s expression. “What? Want to get the antidote to save your former brother?”

“How could that be possible,” Mo Qianzhi retorted. “He killed my wife and child. I can’t wait to take his life, how could I think of saving him?”

Looking at Lai Luofu, he continued: “Since Commander Chen is certain there’s no antidote, let’s change the plan. We’ll attack the city early tomorrow morning.”

Lai Luofu frowned: “Why not tonight? There are no stars or moon tonight, and with Shen Du ill, they’re leaderless. It’s the perfect time to attack.”

This was true, but Mo Qianzhi had his plans. How could he let her lead him by the nose?

“If Commander Chen disagrees with the arrangement, you can lead your Fire Moth Party members to attack the city tonight.”

This was a strategic retreat. Lai Luofu pondered for a while, then snorted coldly and returned to her tent, hiding the murderous intent in her eyes.

Just wait, she thought. When this is all over, she will kill Mo Qianzhi with her own hands.
