“Burp.”
“Mr. Pei, I really can’t eat anymore. Thank you for the treat!”
“Especially the lobster, I really can’t have any more!”
At the entrance of No Name Restaurant, Li Shi let out a satisfied burp, declining Mr. Pei’s kind offer to stay and eat another large lobster.
Besides, Li Shi had been consciously controlling himself lately, trying not to eat too much seafood. His last physical examination showed his uric acid levels were a bit high, and if he continued drinking alcohol or eating seafood without restraint, gout might come knocking at his door any minute.
Speaking of which, Li Shi felt he really needed to learn from Mr. Pei.
Although Mr. Pei owned No Name Restaurant and could enjoy seafood feasts anytime he wanted, he exercised remarkable self-discipline, eating at No Name Restaurant at most once a week.
The rest of the time, he exclusively ate Slackin’ Delivery’s work meals and healthy meals, along with Food·Harmony’s gourmet options.
At such a young age, he already paid so much attention to health preservation. This clearly showed that Mr. Pei was an extremely self-disciplined person with long-term goals. He surely wanted to maintain his health so he could continue working for Tenda until he was sixty, seventy, or even older, personally building Tenda into an incomparably brilliant business empire!
Li Shi couldn’t help but sigh—some things were truly innate.
When he was young, he had also achieved success at an early age, but honestly speaking, he had been quite playful back then. Sometimes his carpe diem attitude had somewhat compromised his health. He could never have been like Mr. Pei, who at such a young age was already thinking about matters several decades ahead.
What was that ancient saying?
“Those who travel to the wilds can return after three meals, with their stomachs still satisfied; those who travel a hundred li must grind grain for overnight; those who travel a thousand li must gather provisions for three months.”
In simpler terms, the farther you travel, the more food supplies you need to prepare in advance.
Mr. Pei was clearly a thousand-li traveler. At just over twenty years old, he already knew how to restrain his appetites, primarily eating healthy meals from Slackin’ Delivery on a daily basis. This was obviously to ensure his body always remained in perfect condition, preparing for decades of work ahead on the frontlines.
Li Shi felt that in this respect, he should really learn more from Mr. Pei!
“Starting tomorrow, I’ll reduce my social engagements a bit and eat more Slackin’ Delivery meals!”
“Yes, I’ll order tomorrow’s work meal right away.”
Sitting in his car and still burping from fullness, Li Shi opened the Slackin’ Delivery app to order tomorrow’s work meal.
“Hmm? Was this section here before?”
After opening the app, Li Shi noticed that the interface layout had changed slightly.
Slackin’ Delivery’s app layout was completely different from other food delivery apps.
Other delivery apps served many restaurants simultaneously, so their homepages tended to be cluttered with search bars, various category tags like “Quality Dinners,” “Home-Style Dishes,” “Pizza & Burgers,” “Bun & Porridge Shops,” and lists of nearby restaurants.
Only after clicking on a specific restaurant would you see that restaurant’s menu.
But Slackin’ Delivery was different—it only featured its own food items.
Although these items were divided into categories like work meals, fitness meals, healthy meals, nutritious meals, and “Food·Harmony” premium meals, the layout still looked clean and straightforward.
Besides these items, the Slackin’ Delivery app also had some dynamic promotional images, mainly used to promote recent new activities or new dishes, guiding customers to try new products.
Li Shi noticed that Slackin’ Delivery seemed to have removed several new dishes that had been in rotation recently, replacing them with a fixed promotional image in a key position!
It prominently displayed: Delicious Snack Combo!
Accompanied by a mouth-watering rendered image showing three snacks: grilled cold noodles, fried bananas, and seaweed pancakes. The portions weren’t large, forming a small tasting set.
This delicious snack combo came in two varieties, both pre-arranged. For example, grilled cold noodles and pancakes were considered similar types of snacks, so they wouldn’t appear in the same combo.
So, between the two combos, there were six different snacks in total, all relatively mainstream and easy to prepare.
“Hmm? That’s not right, is it?”
Li Shi’s first reaction was that his app’s location services must be malfunctioning.
Like other delivery apps, Slackin’ Delivery also automatically filtered nearby stores based on the customer’s phone location.
Li Shi had just left No Name Restaurant by car, and his default store for ordering was near Fuihui Capital—his own company—since he usually only ordered takeout for lunch while at work.
But both these locations were far from the Food Market!
Why would there be a “Delicious Snack Combo” promotion?
Slackin’ Delivery’s app had always been very methodical. Different Slackin’ Delivery locations had different situations; sometimes certain items weren’t available or were temporarily out of stock at a particular location. In those cases, app users with that location wouldn’t see promotions for those items.
This avoided situations where customers would see interesting promotions only to find they couldn’t actually order the items.
It made sense for Slackin’ Delivery to promote the Food Market, but the question was, could they deliver from such a distance?
Li Shi suddenly had an impulse and switched to the location near Fuihui Capital that he frequently ordered from, then ordered several “Delicious Snack Combos.”
Soon after, the order was accepted, prepared, and out for delivery as normal!
This meant these snacks weren’t being made at the Food Market but at Slackin’ Delivery locations!
Li Shi had just arrived at his company when the Slackin’ Delivery courier arrived as well.
“Your meal has arrived. Please enjoy.”
The delivery person was as polite as always.
Li Shi took the snack packages and went to the office area, calling out: “Everyone, put your work aside for a moment and come eat something!”
It was Saturday afternoon, and many employees at Fuihui Capital were working overtime.
For companies like this, overtime was very normal.
Companies like Tenda that firmly refused overtime were extremely rare.
Li Shi knew clearly that he couldn’t be a boss like Mr. Pei, nor was there any need to force himself to be that kind of boss. Sometimes in life, as long as you strive to do things with a clear conscience, that’s enough.
At times like this, seeing employees working overtime, the boss ordering a few snacks was certainly better than not acknowledging them at all.
“Thank you, Mr. Li!”
“Mr. Li, what delicious treats did you order? Smells amazing!”
Everyone gathered around.
Although the snack combo consisted of small items, it still followed Tenda’s consistent style: recyclable containers.
However, these containers were noticeably smaller, apparently specially designed, with slight variations in shape depending on the different snacks.
“I’ve already eaten. Help yourselves to whatever you like,” Li Shi said as he opened the lids, immediately releasing a delicious aroma.
“Hey, isn’t this the grilled cold noodles from the Food Market? That shape is unmistakable!”
“But the Food Market is far from here. Do they deliver?”
“No, judging from the temperature and texture, these clearly weren’t delivered from far away. And the flavor seems slightly different too—there’s definitely some distinction from the Food Market’s grilled cold noodles.”
An employee who had visited the Food Market tasted the grilled cold noodles, savoring them carefully while offering his assessment.
The portions weren’t large, so they were quickly finished.
Just then, someone exclaimed in surprise: “Hey, look, this logo on the container looks familiar! And the logo on these chopsticks?”
Li Shi noticed the logo too.
It was square like a seal, containing four traditional Chinese characters. They weren’t in small seal script or regular script, but a special stylized font, decorated with elegant patterns that weren’t overly flashy yet not rigid either. The combination of the seal and this font created a sense of unity between tradition and trend.
The four characters inside the seal read “Cold Noodle Girl”!
Li Shi recognized it instantly—this was the Cold Noodle Girl’s logo!
When Cold Noodle Girl had gone viral previously, this logo had appeared in many places. She had been silent for so long that these memories had almost been forgotten.
But seeing it again, those memories were immediately awakened.
“Why is it Cold Noodle Girl?”
“Aren’t these snacks from the Food Market?”
“They’re delivered by Slackin’ Delivery…”
Everyone eating the various snacks was confused.
The feeling was like ordering steamed dumplings and then noticing Kaifeng Cuisine’s logo on the steamer basket—rather puzzling.
Li Shi suddenly realized something. He immediately took out his phone and checked the snack combo’s promotional page and details page, discovering two lines of text he had subconsciously overlooked.
“All snack recipes provided by Cold Noodle Girl!”
“Watch ‘Street Vendor Profiles’ to learn about the past and present of these snacks!”
The previously confusing points quickly connected, and Li Shi slapped the table forcefully: “I get it now!”
The employees were perplexed: “Mr. Li, what do you understand?”
Li Shi laughed heartily: “I knew those shares would eventually make money! Everyone, no more overtime today—go home! Go home and rest well!”
Everyone was overjoyed.
Good food and no overtime—double happiness!
“Mr. Li, what good news do you have? Share it with us!”
Li Shi smiled slightly: “Does anyone still remember those Cold Noodle Girl shares we bought earlier?”
Everyone looked at each other, with three or four people nodding.
“We remember. So what? Wasn’t that a… not very successful investment?”
Li Shi chuckled: “Not successful? It’s just that the time for success hadn’t arrived yet!”
“Look, isn’t Cold Noodle Girl about to rise from the dead?”
Some clever employees immediately caught on: “I understand! Mr. Li, you mean Mr. Pei is obviously planning to use Slackin’ Delivery’s app to promote Cold Noodle Girl, so Cold Noodle Girl is making a comeback?”
Li Shi nodded: “You’re right, but that’s not the whole picture!”
“If simply getting a push from Slackin’ Delivery’s app could revive Cold Noodle Girl, Mr. Pei would have done it long ago. Why wait until now?”
“You’ve only seen the surface layer, but you haven’t seen the deeper content!”
