HomeThe Eaves that Trip the MoonChapter 56: "I'm the One Dating Wanyue."

Chapter 56: “I’m the One Dating Wanyue.”

On the wedding day, not only was the bride tired, but being a bridesmaid was also exhausting. However, Cheng Wanyue was excited.

Before the ceremony began, Cheng Yuzhou’s proposal video played on the screen.

On November 2, 2019, Jay Chou held a concert in Nanjing. Zhou Yu didn’t like the type of proposal that involves being urged on in front of everyone, so he planned to propose at home on Christmas, but he had been recording moments since the day of the concert.

At that time, her hair was very short, even shorter than now, but her style was cool. She only had one ear piercing then. She said her mother wouldn’t let her get tattoos, so the French phrase on her collarbone must have been a temporary tattoo. She wore black and white headphones around her neck as she walked casually through the streets, carefree and relaxed.

The scene switched to a video Cheng Yuzhou had filmed many years ago. In their senior year of high school, every time he walked Zhou Yu home, he would stand under the streetlight and watch as she slowly walked away.

There was a sign on the road that read “Zhou Family Bay.” The footage showed raindrops dripping on it and then a thin layer of snow covering it, from sunset to nightfall.

“She’s going to look back now.”

Each time, Cheng Yuzhou was certain.

And every time, Zhou Yu would turn to look at him before rounding the corner.

A group photo of the six of them from New Year’s Eve appeared on the screen. Only Yan Ci was holding a bright orange in his hand. Cheng Wanyue and Zhou Yu were in the front, with Cheng Yanqing and Yan Ci behind them. Qing Hang and Cheng Yuzhou stood on the left and right sides respectively, their only similarity being that neither was looking at the camera.

Cheng Yuzhou’s undisguised preference for Zhou Yu should now be fulfilled.

Zhou Yu handed her bouquet to Cheng Wanyue, but she only held it for a moment before it ended up in Qing Hang’s hands.

Yan Ci’s position was next to Qing Hang. He had given a very expensive gift, probably the most special among all the presents.

Cheng Wanyue had been running back and forth all morning in high heels. Qing Hang placed a towel on the ground, and she took off her shoes to stand on it, hiding her feet under the hem of her dress where others couldn’t see.

She was talking to Qing Hang when she noticed that Yan Ci had been distracted for a long time. Following his gaze, her eyes fell on Zhou Yu.

The letter “Y” tattooed on his waist was still there.

Cheng Wanyue asked softly, “Yan Ci, have you moved on?”

Yan Ci snapped back to reality. The sunlight was dazzling, and his eyes still looked a bit dazed.

Had he moved on?

He didn’t know.

He only knew that when Zhou Yu walked down the long pebble path in her wedding dress, he was imagining himself at the end of that path.

Once he thought he had almost possessed it, but in reality, he never had.

Cheng Wanyue picked up the champagne glass that Qing Hang had been drinking from and clinked it with Yan Ci’s. “Yan Ci, you should start dating, too. With such a handsome face, it’s a waste not to date when you’re young.”

Yan Ci smiled, “It’s not that I don’t want to date, I just haven’t met someone I like.”

“You’ll meet someone you like, and she’ll love you very much too.”

“Let’s just let nature take its course.”

Yan Ci got up to help Cheng Yuzhou fend off drinks. Before Qing Hang was pulled away, he replaced Cheng Wanyue’s drink with warm water containing two red dates.

Cheng Yuzhou’s classmates and childhood friends were all heavy drinkers, declaring they would drink him under the table that night. He couldn’t get away, so Cheng Yanqing was responsible for taking the relatives from Baicheng to the hotel.

Chi Yue added to the atmosphere of the wedding. Cheng Wanyue definitely wouldn’t have time to treat him to a meal today, but he wasn’t in a hurry.

There were so many fresh flowers at the venue that his arm broke out in red rashes. Cheng Wanyue felt a bit guilty and specially arranged a car to send him away.

When Qing Hang looked back, he saw the two of them talking by the roadside. He hadn’t paid attention to the performing band, so he hadn’t noticed Chi Yue before.

Was he invited by her?

Were they in frequent private contact?

Qing Hang tried to tell himself to be generous, but he couldn’t control his legs.

He strode to Cheng Wanyue’s side, took her hand while greeting Chi Yue, “Hello, allergies are not a minor issue, you’d better go to the hospital soon.”

Chi Yue’s gaze fell on their clasped hands. Although he wore a black mask and a baseball cap that covered half his face, revealing only his eyes, Qing Hang could tell he was smiling.

A spirited young student, completely unable to hide his feelings.

“Hello,” Chi Yue looked up, meeting Qing Hang’s gaze, “Doctor?”

Cheng Wanyue’s feet hurt from standing, so she wrapped her other arm around Qing Hang’s arm, leaning on him for support. “Mmhmm, he’s a professional, you won’t go wrong listening to him. Quickly go to the hospital for medicine, and find me for reimbursement when you get back to Beijing.”

“Don’t you dare try to get out of it.”

“Rest assured, I’m not that kind of person.”

After seeing Chi Yue off, Cheng Wanyue was so tired she wanted to lie down right there, but they still had to go to the hotel. She and Qing Hang took the same car.

Chen Huan hadn’t had time to change clothes and was still wearing her bridesmaid dress. It was a strapless style, and someone had accidentally stepped on the hem, nearly causing a wardrobe malfunction. Such situations are very embarrassing for women, but fortunately Yan Ci was nearby and lent her his jacket. Only then did Cheng Wanyue get in the car.

Even Qing Hang could sense the unusual atmosphere. “Do they know each other?”

“Chen Huan was Zhou Yu’s college roommate. She pursued Yan Ci in her freshman year but didn’t succeed.” Cheng Wanyue told the driver to start the car. Fate is predestined, and she wouldn’t meddle unnecessarily. “Guess where I hid A’Yu’s high heels this morning?”

Without waiting for Qing Hang to guess, she lifted her dress slightly. “Under my dress. Cheng Yuzhou went crazy looking for them and had to bribe me with a big red envelope. We can’t use this trick again when Cheng Yanqing and Zhi Zhi get married, it won’t be fresh anymore.”

“You’re going to be Huo Zhi’s bridesmaid too?”

“Not necessarily, depends on the situation.”

Qing Hang took the opportunity to ask, “How did Chi Yue end up here as well?”

“He happened to be in Nanjing, so I asked him to help,” Cheng Wanyue rested her head on his shoulder, closing her eyes to rest. “Drink less tonight, you’re coming back with me to meet my parents.”

With just one sentence, she dispelled the gloom in Qing Hang’s heart. Although he had formally visited the Cheng family many years ago, this time his identity was different.

“Nervous? Don’t be, Cheng Yanqing will speak for you. As long as I’m willing, my parents won’t interfere, at most they’ll just nag a bit, and you can just listen.”

“Mm, I’ll be on my best behavior.”

The evening banquet filled two floors. This was the first time Qing Hang used tricks while drinking, leaving half of each glass. His alcohol tolerance wasn’t very good to begin with.

Cheng Wanyue took him to Cheng Yuzhou’s home. The others hadn’t returned yet.

The temperature had been high during the day, with both crying and laughing. As soon as they got home, Cheng Wanyue went to shower and remove her makeup. Qing Hang placed the tea leaves he had prepared in advance on the table. Just as he was about to go upstairs to check if she was done with her shower, a noisy commotion came from outside the door.

Cheng Yuzhou was drunk, and Cheng Yanqing was helping Zhou Yu support him upstairs.

Cheng Guo’an had also been drinking heavily. After Yang Huimin prepared some sobering tea, she sat on the sofa. Everyone had been busy all day, and only now did they have time to ask Qing Hang about his life and work.

“Are you dating anyone?” Cheng Guo’an hadn’t seen Qing Hang for a long time.

Qing Hang said, “Yes, I am.”

“Time flies so fast, all of you are about to start families,” Yang Huimin sighed. “Yueyue is also bringing her boyfriend home tomorrow. I’ve already met him today, he’s two years younger than her, not even graduated yet.”

Qing Hang paused in the middle of drinking his tea.

Thinking of Chi Yue made Yang Huimin sigh. Being young meant being less steady, and he also had quite a temper.

“They met in Beijing. Yueyue has only been back for two or three days, but they call each other every day, very clingy. Qing Hang, Aunt Yang has always seen you as a son. When your relationship with your girlfriend becomes stable, give us a chance to meet her too.”

Cheng Wanyue came downstairs humming a tune after her shower.

Hearing her footsteps, Qing Hang put down his teacup and stood up.

“Uncle Cheng, Aunt Yang, I’m the one dating Wanyue.”
