Synopsis:
“The Chronicles of Heroes” imagines a historical stage based on the Ming Dynasty event of the “Tumu Fortress Incident,” starting with the “Military Expedition to the West” and following the rise and fall of the “Jingtai Dynasty” and the “Zhengtong Dynasty” as the central storyline. Spanning fifty years, the plot features over three hundred characters and exceeds four million words. The concept of the restoration is the main axis of The Chronicles of Heroes. With the political changes and the shifts they bring, each protagonist is forced to make fateful decisions—right or wrong, crime and punishment, life or surrender. Their joys, sorrows, and the human trials they encounter rewrite the definition of a hero. This long, ten-year journey is summed up as the “Chronicles of Heroes.” The novel is divided into three main parts: “The Jingtai Dynasty” (from the Western Liang Storm to the Eight Gold List Scholars), “The Restoration War” (from the Nine Divine Swords Capturing the Dragon to the Fifteen National Iron Guards), and “The Zhengtong Dynasty” (from the Sixteen Flame Demon Sabers to the Twenty-Six Heroes’ Reunion).
In the first four volumes, the story introduces the four main protagonists—Yang Suguan, Qin Zhonghai, Lu Yun, and Wu Dingyuan. Wu Dingyuan, a constable from Western Liang, pursues justice for the tragic incident at Yanling Escort Agency, becoming a target of various factions’ assassination attempts. Lu Yun fails his imperial exam and is falsely imprisoned, but he continues to uphold his idealistic path. Eventually, these four main characters converge in the capital and begin their journey of growth.
