Synopsis
1.
Zhu Yunque (Yunque means Skylark) never dared to hope that she and Lu Rangchen would ever have a story together.
As a teenager, he was handsome, charismatic, and impossible to tame—a boy admired by nearly every girl in school. The closest she ever came to him was catching a brief glimpse of his tall figure when she secretly turned her head during school exercises.
Her feelings remained hidden and unspoken.
That changed when her mother moved them into the home of a family friend.
While the adults were making introductions, Lu Rangchen leaned casually against the stairway entrance and raised an eyebrow teasingly.
“I know her. She’s the one who sneaks looks at me during morning exercises.”
“…”
Years later, they met again in college.
On a rooftop during a rainy night, candlelight flickered as laughter echoed around them. In a quiet corner away from everyone else, Lu Rangchen held a cigarette loosely between his lips. The glow of his lighter illuminated her face.
Leaning closer, the young man spoke in a low, husky voice that seemed to tempt her:
“Zhu Yunque.”
“Want to give us a try?”
2.
No one could have imagined that a relationship that began so passionately would end so abruptly.
On the night they broke up, heavy snow blanketed the campus.
Lu Rangchen gripped her tightly. Standing in the freezing wind, his expression was cold and fierce.
“This is the last time. If you leave now, don’t come back.”
Yunque looked at him with clear, determined eyes.
“Okay.”
And afterward, she truly never came back.
Years later, they unexpectedly met again at a matchmaking dinner.
The reckless, arrogant young man she once knew had become a reserved and mature adult. His gaze no longer lingered on her.
Before the matchmaker could finish speaking, he let out a cold laugh.
“Forget it. I’m not interested in going back to an ex.”
Yunque’s fingers clenched until they turned pale.
That day, Lu Rangchen left before even finishing his meal.
She thought their story would end there forever.
What she didn’t know was that later, carrying the sharp scent of alcohol, Lu Rangchen cornered her in a deserted alley. His lips crashed against hers with desperate intensity, kissing her until she could barely breathe.
“You never loved me.”
Yet as he kissed her, his deep voice turned hoarse with surrender.
“If you don’t love me… why did you come back and stir up my feelings again?”
Excerpt
“Perhaps human nature is pathetic.”
“Even though she was the one who betrayed me first…”
“I still want a future with her.”
“It’s not that I never loved him.”
“That crush began when I was seventeen.”
“And it never stopped for a single moment.”
“When I loved you, I was both innocent and brave.”
