“Darling, do you love me?”
“I love you.” In the video, the man’s gaze was so tender it looked like softened water. He stretched out his long arm, reached over with great care, and lifted Yan Yunning’s head, settling it against his arm.
Then he drew the blanket over Yan Yunning, leaving only her bright, delicate face uncovered.
As for himself, he barely covered up at all โ his shoulder and a generous stretch of his collarbone remained fully exposed. He mumbled, “Darling, I’m going to post to Moments…”
Yan Yunning jolted. She quickly exited the album and went to search for the contact she had saved as “Husband.” to see what on earth he had posted.
She found nothing โ and Xuan Yanyu, who by now had recalled everything he had done last night, seized the moment while she was scrolling through his Moments feed, grabbed the familiar branded clothing bag, and slipped quietly into the bathroom.
She couldn’t find the contact saved as “Husband.” Yan Yunning couldn’t find Xuan Yanyu’s profile photo either โ it was as if he had vanished entirely from her contacts list.
She turned to ask him, only to find the spot beside her empty. The sound of running water came from the bathroom. She scanned the headboard, picked up Xuan Yanyu’s phone, unlocked it, and tapped on his profile page.
What she saw made her eyes go perfectly round. His original profile photo had been swapped out โ replaced with a cartoon anime character kneeling contritely on a scrubbing board, looking utterly aggrieved.
His display name had been changed to: “Baby who is a Good Boy.”
Yan Yunning was speechless. Did that profile photo and display name actually suit someone like him?
Wasn’t he worried people would laugh at him?
But then she remembered โ this wasn’t his work account. Everyone on this one was close friends and family. It was probably fine.
In Xuan Yanyu’s pinned contacts, she found the entry saved as “Darling.” The profile photo was a cartoon anime character striking a proud pose โ one hand on the hip, the other holding a little fan, looking thoroughly pleased with itself.
It was a matching couples set with Xuan Yanyu’s character. She tapped on the profile photo to see the display name โ and sure enough, he had changed it to: “Baby’s Darling.”
Needless to say, the reason she hadn’t been able to find the contact saved as “Husband.” was obvious โ Xuan Yanyu had clearly changed it to “Baby.”
Yan Yunning then scrolled through Xuan Yanyu’s Moments feed. Apart from the post he had made when they had publicly announced their relationship, there were two new ones. The first was a photo of him leaning down to kiss the corner of her lips, with the caption: “So in love with my Darling.”
It had many likes, and the comments were all playfully teasing.
Yan Yunning opened the second post. It was obvious that Xuan Yanyu had gotten confused โ he had already posted “So in love with my Darling.” on her phone once, and then gone and posted the exact same thing again on his own.
Her eyelid twitched. She opened her own phone and saw the notifications badge showing 99+. She tapped through, stared at that smug and self-satisfied cartoon character, and felt the corner of her eye twitch.
She could guarantee that everyone who saw it would absolutely assume she had been the one to change it for him.
There was also the matter of โ with so many matching couples profile photos available, where on earth had he dug up a cartoon kneeling on a scrubbing board???
With some trepidation, she opened her own Moments feed, and a post that had not come from her own hands immediately caught her eye. Yan Yunning took a deep breath and opened the most recent one.
In the photo, a man โ his collarbone prominently exposed โ had his chin resting on top of her head. His eyes were closed, as though he had fallen asleep. She was curled up on her side, nestled against Xuan Yanyu’s chest, with only a hint of her profile visible.
The caption read: “So in love with my Baby.”
Yan Yunning covered her face in embarrassment. That photo โ it was all too easy for people to read something into it!!!
At least Xuan Yanyu hadn’t been drunk enough to post anything truly inappropriate.
She half-squinted and opened the comments. Gu Jingye had left two lines of ellipses.
He Qingxia: “Bestie, so you really don’t consider us outsiders anymore, huh…”
“…”
“…”
Faced with a long string of comments, Yan Yunning’s ears burned crimson. She set Xuan Yanyu’s recklessly posted Moments to visible only to herself.
She had a feeling that for quite some time, she wouldn’t be able to face anyone.
“Click.” The bathroom door opened. Yan Yunning turned and held the phone up toward Xuan Yanyu.
The man’s throat moved. He steered the conversation elsewhere. “Have you eaten? Let me book a restaurant โ let’s go have a meal.”
Yan Yunning stood up and curled her finger at Xuan Yanyu. “Come here.”
The young woman was standing at the very edge of the bed. Xuan Yanyu, worried she might accidentally tumble off, walked over and wrapped an arm around her, his smile easy and unhurried. “Here I am.”
Yan Yunning bit his ear lightly. “Baby, aren’t you going to explain the Moments post?”
“Ahem.”
Yan Yunning patted his cheek. “If you want to post a couples photo on Moments, couldn’t you pick something a bit more artistically done? Even using one of our digital wedding photos would be fine.”
Xuan Yanyu said honestly, “I didn’t think of that at the time.”
Yan Yunning looped her arms around his neck, puffed her cheeks, and said, “Next time you get drunk, I’m hiding your phone.”
Xuan Yanyu raised an eyebrow. He bent down, picked up the young woman’s shoes, and scooped her up with one arm like she weighed nothing, his voice lazy and unhurried. “Noted, Darling.”
Yan Yunning: “…”
“Hey?” Noticing that Xuan Yanyu was walking toward the door, Yan Yunning patted his shoulder. “You haven’t had the hangover soup yet.”
Xuan Yanyu paused at those words, walked to the table, and smiled slightly. “What do I do? No free hand?”
Yan Yunning didn’t call him on it. She leaned forward, picked up the bowl, and held it to his lips, smiling brightly. “Esteemed Mr. Xuan, please have your hangover soup. If you’re satisfied, don’t forget to leave a good review~”
The man’s breathing deepened. He lowered his gaze and drank down the hangover soup the young woman held to his lips.
After swallowing it, he looked up and kissed her softly on the lips.
Fifteen minutes later, the two of them came downstairs. Yan Yuren frowned at the sight of Yan Yunning nestled in Xuan Yanyu’s arms.
Unbearable to look at.
“Yan Yunning, what are your legs there for?” Yan Jinzhi gave her a look of pure disdain.
Yan Yunning noticed her brothers were all present and looked at them with some suspicion. “Why are you all still here? Don’t you need to go to the company?”
“They just woke up. It’s been less than a minute since they came downstairs. There’s no going to the company today.” Yu Cheng explained with a smile.
Lu Mumu walked out of the dining room and called out, “Let’s go eat โ Auntie has the meal ready.”
“Ningning, get down.” Yan Jinrang’s tone was not particularly warm.
Yan Yunning swallowed. She gave a quiet little “Oh.”
Xuan Yanyu squeezed her arm, his voice gentle. “Lift your feet.”
The young woman raised her feet โ slender, well-proportioned, with dainty ankles โ and Xuan Yanyu slipped the shoes he had been holding onto her feet.
Yan Jinrang was caught off guard for a second. He hadn’t expected Xuan Yanyu to put Ningning’s shoes on for her himself. After all, someone who had been accustomed to being looked up to from the time he was small rarely lowered his head to attend to another person.
At the dining table.
Yan Jinrang, Yan Jing’an, Yan Jinzhi, and Wu Cheng kept finding topics to strike up conversations with Yan Yunning, making a point of leaving Xuan Yanyu out of the exchange.
“Ningning, come back to Yuanjin City with us after the meal,” Yan Jinrang said evenly.
“Huh?”
“What do you mean, huh?” Yan Jing’an set a piece of spare rib in her bowl. “It’s long overdue.”
Yan Yuren cut a small piece of mousse cake with her fork and brought it to her lips. “Your brothers are right. You’re not even married yet โ just engaged. There’s no rush to be together before then. Once you’re married, it won’t be too late.”
Yan Yunning glanced over at Xuan Yanyu. His brow had furrowed slightly.
