Take him in? Alone, just the two of them?
At Baili Weisheng’s words, all sorts of thoughts began bubbling up one after another in Meng Duo’er’s mind.
But soon, someone interrupted her thoughts.
It was Baili Weisheng himself who spoke again. “No, that won’t work. She’s inside her coffin right now, and besides…”
As he spoke, he glanced at the tall one and short one approaching from a distance. Vampires had spiritual senses—if exposed too soon, and Li Qinqin got desperate, who knew what chaos that woman might stir up.
For now, the best approach was to find a way to make use of these two eccentric brothers.
Earlier, they’d planned to cooperate with their Guardian—but given how capable Meng Duo’er had proven, that cooperation was no longer necessary.
Best to quietly eliminate Li Qinqin first, then quietly go open the main coffin, minimizing the trouble as much as possible.
So now, what could be done to make these two eccentric brothers keep their mouths shut?
Everyone could see Baili Weisheng was troubled. As the tall one and short one approached, everyone fell silent.
The tall one and short one worshipped Baili Weisheng beyond measure and feared Jun Buli and Jun Yaotiao beyond measure, immediately hiding behind Baili Weisheng the moment they arrived.
Baili Weisheng got straight to the point. “Hey, did you two notify Guardian Feng? The guests are already at the door, and no one’s come out to greet them yet?”
Unexpectedly, at this, both brothers’ legs immediately buckled, sending them collapsing to the ground.
They’d already secretly decided to become Baili Weisheng’s disciples, having completely tossed Guardian Feng aside in their minds.
But now that they’d arrived at the gate, bringing along two Sky Wolf clan members, expecting Guardian Feng to come greet the guests was simply an outrageous joke!
After a moment of weak-kneed collapse, the tall one managed to stand back up. “Didn’t we agree not to mention the Sky Wolf clan, and only discuss the undying blood? Once Guardian Feng sees… once he sees them.”
As the tall one spoke, he glanced nervously at Jun Buli and Jun Yaotiao, backing away in terror. “The moment he sees them, he’ll immediately know they’re Sky Wolf clan, and Guardian Feng will kill us for sure!”
At this, everyone secretly enjoyed a good laugh. Truly, fools bring endless entertainment.
“So what do you suggest we do?” Baili Weisheng looked to the tall one.
The tall one immediately clasped his hands together in a deeply respectful bow, glancing at the short one and gesturing for him to join. The short one hurriedly scrambled over, bowing just as respectfully, bending at ninety degrees, and together they declared in unison, “Please teach us to swim!”
Pfft!
Everyone present genuinely burst out laughing. Of all things… swimming?!
Baili Weisheng, are you sure what you were doing in the sea all this time was “swimming”?
Baili Weisheng had already considered himself quite the eccentric character, but today, he’d been outdone once again! Looking at the two brothers, his mouth twitched so hard he couldn’t even speak.
Jun Buli finally spoke up coldly. “In that case, from today until the night of the full moon, if Guardian Feng contacts you through his spiritual senses, do you know what to say?”
The tall one was about to answer, but instead asked, “What exactly are you all planning to do on the fifteenth night?”
Smack!
Baili Weisheng brought his palm down on his forehead. “Didn’t I already say? We’re going to kill Li Qinqin!”
The tall one nodded quickly, but then added earnestly, “Without cooperating with Guardian Feng, you won’t be able to kill Li Qinqin!”
Smack!
Baili Weisheng slapped him again. “How about this—why don’t you go tell Guardian Feng right now that we’re already at the door, bringing two Sky Wolf clan members to tear Li Qinqin apart?”
The tall one paled with fright, shaking his head repeatedly. “No need, no need! Just find a way to destroy Li Qinqin’s coffin, and she’ll die from sunlight exposure for sure!”
At this, the whole group fell silent. The tall one stared blankly at everyone, his gaze finally landing on the equally dumbstruck short one, asking timidly, “Did… did I just expose something?”
The short one looked ready to cry—every vampire, once their coffin was burned, would die instantly from sunlight exposure, forced to live forever only in darkness!
This was a secret shared by the entire vampire clan, a forbidden taboo, absolutely never to be revealed to outsiders!
It’s over…
“Instant death by sunlight?” Baili Weisheng stroked his chin, smiling thoughtfully.
“So that’s how it is!” Ziqing said, suddenly understanding. It seemed her earlier thinking had been correct after all.
“Now I have a plan…” A cold, calculating smile curved at the corner of Jun Buli’s lips as an idea took shape.
Jun Beiyue glanced at the sky and said flatly, “Let’s go. We’ll return on the night of the full moon.”
To deal with the vampire clan, they only had Meng Duo’er and Jun Buli’s fangs, plus Jun Yaotiao’s deterrent presence. Coming on the night of the full moon would serve double purpose—both to draw the Left Envoy’s blood and as an extra safeguard.
As for Li Qinqin, naturally, they’d deal with her together on the full moon night as well!
“There’s an oasis estate nearby—it’s where my father and mother go to escape the summer heat. Let’s go stay there for a few days!” Situ Jing’er offered enthusiastically, cutting Situ Haonan off before he could speak.
So, as dawn broke fully, everyone withdrew, of course bringing the tall one and short one along with them.
“Boss, what exactly is going on right now? I don’t understand any of this,” the short one said, thoroughly confused.
The tall one, his forehead throbbing from all of Baili Weisheng’s slaps, finally understood the pain of it. Out of habit he raised a hand to strike back, then hesitated and lowered it. “I don’t know either. I’m just as confused and dizzy as you are!”
“So what do we do now?” the short one asked.
The tall one thought for a moment, then finally said, “Whatever happens, I’m sticking with that scholar no matter what—the way he swims in the sea is just too cool!”
“I’m sticking with him too! He’s way cooler than Guardian Feng!” the short one quickly declared his loyalty, then paused and added, “But what if Guardian Feng comes looking for us again?”
The tall one couldn’t help himself, slapping him again. “Didn’t I just tell you? Just say we’re still searching for the undying blood!”
The short one rubbed his forehead innocently. “And what if Li Qinqin comes looking for us?”
“Just say we’re awaiting her orders at any time!” the tall one said seriously. “Got it memorized?”
The short one nodded emphatically. “Got it!”
And so, the two brothers, utterly bewildered yet obediently foolish, followed the group to the oasis estate, and over the following days, clung to Baili Weisheng constantly.
Baili Weisheng felt himself teetering on the edge of a breakdown, thinking that once this whole affair was over, he’d simply go back to being missing again. Nine days remained until the full moon, and during those nine days, the group held three secret meetings, drawing up a thoroughly detailed plan.
Most of the time, everyone treated it as a vacation. During this period, Ziqing spent an entire night talking with Jun Buli—mother and son held nothing back, discussing everything under the sun—while Jun Yaotiao was left in Jun Beiyue’s care.
Meng Duo’er didn’t actively seek out Baili Weisheng, and Baili Weisheng didn’t deliberately avoid her either—it was simply that their lodgings were quite far apart, so they basically never crossed paths.
The days passed one after another, and soon, the fifteenth arrived.
In the desert, the sky darkened quickly after sunset, and a full moon slowly rose…
