Soon, the day of the casino’s event arrived.
Yao Zhengxing made this event a grand affair, inviting many famous and illustrious figures, as well as quite a few popular celebrities from the entertainment industry.
This was destined to be a spectacular event.
Rong Qian came along with Shen Yi, but she couldn’t appear together with him.
This was something they had discussed before coming. This time was different from before — with so many people and so many eyes around, if she appeared together with him, it would definitely draw attention. Shen Yi didn’t want her caught up in that clamorous mess.
Given Shen Yi’s character, he would certainly protect her well.
So this time, Rong Qian disguised herself as a sharp, capable female bodyguard. To ensure the event’s security, bodyguards were stationed throughout, keeping watch at all times.
Rong Qian blended in among them, but her eyes were fixed on only one person — Shen Yi.
As for this kind of social occasion full of small talk and obligations, Shen Yi handled it even more smoothly than Rong Qian had expected. Dressed in a suit, holding a stemmed glass, his every word and manner radiated gentlemanly grace and refinement.
Every now and then, Shen Yi would cast a gentle glance toward Rong Qian, and she had to pretend to be cold and aloof, not allowed to smile, lest she give herself away.
The event began smoothly with nothing out of the ordinary, but Rong Qian still didn’t let her guard down — until someone caught her attention.
As Yao Zhengxing’s daughter, Yao Na was dressed elegantly tonight, looking just like a little princess.
But that wasn’t what drew Rong Qian’s attention — rather, she saw a man clinging to Yao Na, pulling and tugging at her, refusing to let go.
Since there was some distance between them, Rong Qian couldn’t hear what they were saying, but she could tell Yao Na was troubled. In the end, Yao Na seemed to give in and agreed to leave with the man.
The man looked delighted and quickly gestured for her to go ahead. Yao Na walked off with an impatient look on her face.
From a distance, Rong Qian watched Yao Na head out the door, without even a single bodyguard at her side, following that man. For some reason, she suddenly had a bad feeling about it.
Rong Qian thought back — the time Yao Na was kidnapped… wasn’t it today?
At that thought, Rong Qian’s expression changed, and she immediately quickened her pace to follow!
Yao Na had followed the man out through the back door. Once outside the casino, Yao Na said with great displeasure:
“Whatever it is, why couldn’t you say it inside? Why did you have to drag me out here?”
“Nana, I’m sincere about you.” The man looked earnest.
Yao Na, impatient, said, “How many times do I have to tell you? I don’t like you. And stop pestering me from now on — I’m going to marry Shen Yi.”
With that, Yao Na turned and walked away. The man’s expression turned ferocious, and he said viciously, “You’re the one forcing me into this.”
“Yao Na!”
The man shouted her name.
Yao Na rolled her eyes and turned around, saying, “How many more times do you want me to—ah!”
Before she could finish her sentence, the man swung a brick he’d picked up off the ground at her head. Yao Na let out a scream of pain and fell to the ground, clutching her head. She felt blood flowing out, staring in disbelief at the man before her.
But the man wasn’t done yet. He grabbed her arm, hauled her up, and dragged her toward the car.
Yao Na struggled wildly, and the man slapped her hard across the face. After dragging her into the car, he pressed his whole body down on top of her, pinning her beneath him, and said with a vicious grin, “It doesn’t matter that I can’t have your heart — at least I’ll have your body. I’m going to let everyone know that I slept with the Gambling King’s daughter!”
“H-help… help me…” Yao Na cried out in fear, her whole body trembling. Only now did she realize how serious the situation was.
“It’s too late for regrets now!” The man tore at her clothes, lay on top of her, and began biting and kissing her.
But before he could go any further, he felt someone grab his collar and yank him backward with tremendous force. Caught completely off guard, the man was actually dragged right out of the car.
The man fell to the ground, and before he could recover, the other person punched him square in the face!
That one punch knocked out two of his teeth. The man’s mouth was instantly full of blood, and he went limp on the ground, struggling for a long time without being able to get up.
“Well, well — daring to commit such crimes right in front of me, you’ve got some nerve!” Rong Qian shook out her hand. That punch had been so hard that even her own hand hurt afterward.
She kicked the man a couple more times for good measure, then went to check on Yao Na.
Yao Na had already sat up and was now fumbling frantically to fix her clothes, but the collar had already been torn, and no matter how she tried to cover it, she couldn’t. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Seeing this, Rong Qian quickly took off her jacket and handed it to her. “Put this on.”
“Th-thank you.” Her eyes were red-rimmed, whether from gratitude or fear she couldn’t say. After putting on the jacket Rong Qian handed her, she timidly hid behind Rong Qian, gripping her hand.
Rong Qian shook her head helplessly. After all, Yao Na was still a girl not yet twenty — it was only natural to be afraid after something like this.
Rong Qian was about to say something to her when suddenly, an explosion erupted from inside the casino!
BOOM——
The sound was so loud that the glass windows of the second-floor casino were all shattered. Thick smoke billowed out from the windows — there hadn’t just been an explosion, but a fire had also broken out!
“Ah!”
Yao Na screamed in terror and clung tightly to Rong Qian. Rong Qian’s face turned deathly pale — her first thought was that something had happened to Shen Yi!
But Rong Qian remained calm. She immediately took Yao Na to a crowded area and made sure she was safely settled before running into the casino. Everyone was fleeing outward in terror.
Only Rong Qian went against the flow of the crowd, running inward.
“Shen Yi!”
Rong Qian searched for Shen Yi while calling out his name. The scene was utter chaos. From a distance, she spotted Xu Mo, who was trapped in the crowd and couldn’t get out.
Rong Qian hurried over and pulled him out of the crowd. Before he could even catch his breath, she asked him, “Where’s Shen Yi?”
“B-boss… he’s… on the second floor. I was just about to go… go find him!” Xu Mo gasped for breath, speaking in fits and starts, but finally managed to get a complete sentence out.
Rong Qian pushed him toward the crowd. “Go take shelter. I’ll go save your boss!”
“Miss Rong!”
Xu Mo still wanted to follow her, but the people fleeing for their lives outward left him no room to push through.
Xu Mo was forced to go outside and take shelter.
