Summary:
At Yangming High School, everyone knew that Zhou Wan was introverted and reserved, while Lu Xixiao was bold and untamed. They were worlds apart, with no apparent connection. No one could have predicted that one day they would stand side by side.
Then came the rumors: someone like Lu Xixiao, constantly changing girlfriends, could only be momentarily intrigued by Zhou Wan’s innocent “first love” face. It wouldn’t be long before he grew tired of her.
As expected, Zhou Wan eventually transferred schools and left. Lu Xixiao returned to his carefree, hedonistic ways as if their relationship had never happened.
But one night, drunk and impulsive, Lu Xixiao called Zhou Wan over and over. She hung up repeatedly until she finally answered, saying nothing. He also remained silent, as if locked in a battle of wills. Finally, Lu Xixiao caved, his voice trembling with one last shred of pride:
“Zhou Wan, just say you love me, and I’ll forgive everything.”
Her voice was calm, cold even, as she addressed him:
“Lu Xixiao.”
Just those three words and his eyes turned red.
Then, with chilling composure, she said:
“I don’t love you. I’ve been lying to you all along.”
In their relationship, Lu Xixiao was never in control. He had always been the one who played.
That call ended badly, full of bitterness. Lu Xixiao spat venomous words: “Zhou Wan, don’t let me see you again. If I do, I’ll make you beg me in tears.”
Their next encounter came on the neon-lit streets of a bar district. Lu Xixiao, the same rebellious and devil-may-care rogue, stood next to a pretty girl who was lighting his cigarette.
The moment he saw Zhou Wan, his expression didn’t flicker. He looked away, continuing his casual chatter as if he had forgotten her entirely.
But Zhou Wan only spoke three words, and the façade crumbled:
“Lu Xixiao.”
Her voice remained as calm and cold as ever.
Lu Xixiao dropped his cigarette and strode over to her, gripping her collar and shoving the composed, gentle-looking woman against the wall. His rage was palpable, veins bulging on his forehead.
“Zhou Wan,” he growled, his voice laced with fury, “you dare come back? You dare?”
Reeking of alcohol and tobacco, he leaned in, teeth clenched, enunciating each word:
“Are you trying to die?”
